ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study was to examine the food intake and family support of patients with Coronary Artery Disease(CAD). METHODS: 90 hospitalized patients who received CAD medical treatment were randomly selected. The food intake frequency and family support instrument were utilized. Collected data was analyzed by SPSS/WIN 14.0: t-test, Chi-square-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS: The mean score of food intake frequency was 5.65(total mean score 97.50) which was relatively healthy food intake based on the CAD treatment guidelines. Undesirable food intake items were fruit, fish, milk etc. The mean score of family support was 2.44(range: 1 - 4). Food intake showed a significant(p < .001) positive correlation with family support. There was significant difference(p < .05) on family support according to exercise. There was significant difference(p < .05) on LDL level, one of the CAD risk factors, between first admission patients and readmission patients. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that nursing intervention education programs should be developed to appropriately care for CHD patients for needed changes.

ABSTRACT

We observed 32 cases of viral hepatitis who were admitted to to pediatric ward of Korea General Hospital for 1 year from Oct. 1979 to Sept. 1980 and the following results are obtained. 1) Eight among 32 eases of viral hepatitis are positive for HBsAg in their serum samples tested by solid phase radioimmunoassay. 2) High ESR is found in 69.6% of cases with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis ESR within normal limit is 87.5% of cases. 3) Values for GPT are higher than those of GOT in 70.8% of patients with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis GOT higher than GPT are 87.5% of cases. 4) Elevated levels of TTT are observed in 83.4% of patients with type A hepatitis. In type B hepatitis TTT within normal limit is 75.0% of casses. We may conclude that ESR, SGOT, SGPT and TTT can be a very useful additional test as a diagnostic aid in the differentiation of the two types of viral hepatitis, when tested early in the disease.

ABSTRACT

Patients with acute glomerulonephritis often are seen with signs suggesting heart failure. Whether these signs are due to fluid overload secondary to kidney damage only, or whether there is associated myocardial damage has not been elucidated. Twenty-two children with acute glomerulonephritis were studied by echocardiography during edematous phase of disease. Left ventricular function was normal in all childrem. The most consistent finding was enlargement of left atrium and left ventricle during the edematous phase. There was no correlation between blood pressure and the echocardiographic findings. This study suggest that signs of heart failure in acute glomerulonephritis are not due to myocardial damage but probably reflect fluid overload.

ABSTRACT

Leukemic reticuloendotheliosis (L.R.E.) was first described as a clinical and pathological entity by Ewald in 1923. LRE is a rare neoplastic disease of the hematopoietic system that is characterized cliniclly by chronic course with an insidious onset. marked splenomegaly with absence of substantial lymphadenopathy and predominant in male and characterized histologically by the presence of circulating abnormal mononuclear cells with many cytoplasmic projections, which have been refered to ??airy cells frequently. Splenectomy appeared to be the most beneficial treatment at present for those patients with massive splenomegaly and hypersplenism and chemotherapy is of little benefit in the treatment in LRE. Recently, the authors had the opportunity to observe a two year and eight old male child at this hospital whose clinical course and pathologid features were consistent with LRE. Splenectomy is performed and discharged with relatively good conditions.

ABSTRACT

Of 375 newborn infants in Korea General Hospital in the period of 6 months from March 1 to August 30, 1976. 304 newborn infants were available for the study of serum bilirubin level at the third day of the birth. The followings are results analyzed: 1) The mean value of serum bilirubin level estimated is 10.6mg%. The incidence of neonatal jaundice is estimated as 95.4 percent. 2) The premature infants reveal a marked elevation of serum bilirubin level. Conditions with increased level of serum bilirubin in variable degree include vacuum suction and/or forcep delivery, high or low hematocrit value, low Apgar scores, artificial resuscitation, cephalhematoma and spontaneous premature rupture of the membrance. 3) No relationship in serum bilirubin levels between differences in sex, body weight, number of pregnacies and ABO blood groups of mother and infant is present in this study.
