ABSTRACT

It can be stated that acceptance of sterilization for limitation of family size has definitely set a new trend in obstetrical practice in this country. It portends the beginning of smaller families in the context of Asian culture and society. Integrating a sterilization program in an OB-GYN Department has demonstrated that it is feasible, practical, effective, and responsive to patient needs. However, since the mean age of our acceptors is 34.2 years and the mean parity is 4.4, future efforts have to be directed to delivery of these services to women of lower age and parity in order to achieve more effective limitation of family size. ABSTRACT

An analysis was made of 9 cases of placenta accreta found among 14,853 obstetrical admissions during a 10-year period. The immediate cause of placenta accreta is defective or absent decidua basalis and the remote causes are those which result in a decidual response which is inadequate for normal nidation and placentation. Placenta previa is considered as another underlying factor in occurrence of accretion. The usual treatment of placenta accreta must be immediate hysterectomy although with modern chemotherapy and availability of blood, conservation of the uterus may occasionally have a place in the management of placenta accreta, especially in the primigravidas. The increasing frequency of recognition of placental secretion makes this condition an important and significant cause of immediate and delayed postpartum hemorrhage. The clinical occurrence of placenta accreta as a sudden unexpected rapidly disastrous phenomenon of the third stage of labor and the need for observing eternal vigilance in the management of any gravida are emphasized. ABSTRACT

This study utilized SH 70 924, a combination of estrogen, progestogen and androgen esters for suppression of lactation. A total of 115 women in the Greater Manila area were included in the study at variable periods ranging from within 24 hours after delivery to weeks of already established lactation. Treatment consisted of a single intramuscular injection of SH 70 924. It was shown that SH 70 924 successfully inhibited lactation and suppressed incipient or even existing lactation within a short time after injection. (Author)
