ABSTRACT

Introduction: Evidence based practice [EBP] education is essential in promoting of clinical care, but an effective educational strategy for teaching EBP in nursing faculties is not available. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of nursing students of EBP Education according to Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation Model

Methods: This qualitative study was carried out using a directed content analysis method and purposeful sampling. Data were collected until saturation by fourteen semi-structured face-to face individual interviews and two focus group discussions with nursing students from two nursing faculties in Tehran, Iran. Rogers' Model was used in this study

Results: Data were classified into five themes and 11 categories according to the Rogers's Model. Themes and main categories were knowledge [educational enrichment, new strategy for education], persuasion [internalization of education, improvement of motivation], decision [acceptance, use in the future], implementation [objectivity, consolidation of learning] and confirmation [learning and teaching, achieving a goal, self confidence]

Conclusions: EBP Education, based on the teaching strategy of Rogers's Model, leads to an improved EBP learning. All the necessary steps for a better education of it are included in this educational approach which can be used to teach any new subject like EBP

ABSTRACT

Unquestionably, data analysis is the most complex and mysterious of all of the phases of a qualitative research, and the one that receives the least thoughtful discussion in the literature. The aim of this review paper that adapted from methodology section of doctoral dissertation was outlines the descriptive phenomenological psychological method of research and explain of data analysis based on Giorgi approach with objective examples to cause further insight and reflection by later researchers who may this choose as most appropriate method to analyze their data. Data analysis based on Giorgi framework follows Husserl tradition. Description and clarification of the phenomenon being studied is cornerstones of this phenomenological method. The stages of analysis method based on Giorgi are: 1] assuming phenomenology attitude, 2] read of interview to attain of Sense of the whole, 3] determination of primary meaning unites, 4] transforming of meaning unites to psychological statements, and 5] synthesize of psychological General or Essential structure of experience based on constituents. Among the analysis approaches of qualitative data, analytical method of Giorgi has been as least preferred method by local researchers. However, the review of literature suggests that many foreign studies have used this approach to analyze data, describing the data analysis with comprehensive details has not been mentioned. Providing more details on the method of data analysis, allowing researchers access to necessary information and will be useful as a guide for future research. therefore, The data analysis procedures are described in detail in the paper and this matter has been resolved

ABSTRACT

Self-transcendence can organize the challenges of multiple sclerosis patients to achieve and maintain a constant state of well-being and sense of integrity in the disease process. As a research based on self-transcendence didn't done in Iran, the present study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of peer groups on promoting self-transcendence level in multiple sclerosis [MS] patients. This study is a before and after quasi-experimental study that was conducted on 33 patients with confirmed MS participated in three peer support groups: 10 men in male group, 11 women in female group and 12 men and women in mixed group. Eight weekly sessions and each session was 2 hours were held. Data collection tool was Self-Transcendence Scale [STS] with 15 item and Cronbach's coefficient was 0.68 that after modifying, it increased to 0.81. Patients completed self administered questionnaires pre- and post of sessions. Results showed that peer support groups promote the self-transcendence [p=0.001] with increases in mean self-transcendence scores in all 3 groups [men group: 0.008, women group 0.005 and mixed group: 0.003]. Comparing scores before and after intervention demonstrated that self-transcendence increased equally in all groups. The results showed an improving in self-transcendence in peer support group participants at the end of the intervention. The results can be used in areas of nursing education and management. It is proposed that the self-transcendence assessment to be done in other chronic disease in order to evaluate its efficiency

ABSTRACT

Pemphigus is a rare and potentially life-threatening disease. It produces blisters in the skin and mucous membranes. In more than 81% of cases, pemphigus involves oral mucosa. This study assessed the efficacy of mouthwash with honey compared with hydrogen peroxide on oral lesions healing in Pemphigus patients. A randomized design clinical trial was carried on 49 patients with oral pemphigus lesions. Patients randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Patients were assessed for 10 days. Data were collected by questionnaire, Oral Mucositis Visual Assessment Guide of WHO, visual analog scale of pain intensity and time Diaries. Age, sex, educational level, marital status, history of crisis in the past 6 months, history of autoimmune disease and history of pemphigus disease in their family, were not statistically significant differente in experimental [honey mouthwash] and control [hydrogen peroxide mouthwash] groups. Degree of oral lesions faster was improved in experimental [honey mouthwash] group compared with control [hydrogen peroxide mouthwash] group. Reducing pain intensity in the experimental group was significant from the third day[P=0.001], while it was not statistically significant in the control group until the tenth day of assessment. Honey mouthwash compared with hydrogen peroxide has had faster effect on oral lesions healing and more effective on reducing pain in pemphigus patients. Honey mouthwash has no complication in this group of patients

ABSTRACT

Illness perception influences patients' decision to adopt effective behavior and achieve positive results such as adapting with the disease and improving functionality, and the interventions that increase illness perception can promote health. This study aimed to investigate the effect of illness perception on the physical health-related quality of life of MS patients attending peer support groups. This study with a quasi-experimental before-and-after design included 33 MS patients in three groups: male-only[n=10], female-only[n=11] and one with both males and females [mixed, n=12] that selected by convenience sampling Participants were required to attend 8 weekly sessions comprising 2 hours each. Instruments used to assess physical health related quality of life and illness perception were the physical health section of "Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life Inventory [MSQLI]" and "Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire[IPQ-R]" respectively, which were completed by participants before and after attending the group sessions. The results showed that although illness perception of MS patients attending peer support groups did not show a significant increase, physical health significantly improved[p=0.001]. Attending peer support group increased illness perception in the mixed group[p=0.01] and elevated physical health in men only and mixed group [p=0.03 for the mixed group and p=0.04 for men only group]. Regression analysis showed a significant relationship between MS and physical health with efficacy of 0.54[p<0.001]. The results showed that increased illness perception in MS patients improves their physical health. Therefore, we can improve MS patients' physical health-related quality of life through peer support groups and hence promote patients' quality of life
