ABSTRACT
We screened 500 pregnant women [280 Saudi and 220 of other Arab nationalities] for abnormalities in glucose tolerance by a single measurement of plasma glucose 2 h after 75 g glucose was given orally. The 74 [14.8%] who had an abnormal glucose level [>/= 8 mmol/1] underwent an extended glucose tolerance test [GTT]; 45 [9%] were abnormal [WHO criteria 1980]
