ABSTRACT

Introduction: Lungs are the paired vital organs meant for respiration situated in the thoracic cavity on either sideof the heart. The right lung is divided into supe-rior, middle & inferior lobes by oblique and horizontal fissure.While the left lung is divided into supe-rior & inferior lobes by an oblique fissure. The fissures permit distensionof the lobes during respiration. The fissures may be complete, incomplete or absent.Aim: To find out the variations in fissures and lobes along with their patterns, in human lungs; collected fromcadavers.Result: Out of 50 right lung specimen, the horizontal fissure was absent in two cases whereas the horizontalfissure was incompletely seen in 18 specimens. Incomplete oblique fissure was seen in 7 right sided lungs. Wereported accessory fissures and accessory lobes in 14 specimens. The oblique fissure was absent in 4 left lungsand it was incomplete in 14 lungs. Accessory fissures and lobes were present in 8 specimens.Conclusion: Knowledge of any variations is necessary in performing segmental resection and lobectomy. Accessoryfissures indicate persistence of prenatal fissures.

ABSTRACT

A number of Organophosphorus compounds have been introduced in Indian market as agricultural insecticides, being effective against wide range of insects and pests. But a number of these compounds have proved to be more toxic to humans than its utility as insecticides, pesticides or fungicides. This study aims to evaluate the certain factors which are very significant in relation to outcome of Organophosphorus compound poisoning like age, sex, SE status, marital status, reason of committing suicide, etc. and attempt to know its prevalence in society and try to plan for future preventive strategy. The study was carried out on 288 cases of Organophosphorus compound poisoning which come to Maharani Hospital, Jagdalpur, (C.G) from 01/01/2007 to 31/12/2009. M: F ratio was 1.3: 1.0. Majority of the cases were in age group of 21-30 yrs includes 128 cases (44.44%). Higher proportion of cases from lower class of society 141 cases (48.95%), from rural area 237 cases (82.29%), due to lack of education in affected community. Suicidal intent to consume the compound was the commonest - 250 cases (86.80%). Recovery rate was highest amongst those who consume less than 10 ml of poison – 120 cases (41.66%).

ABSTRACT

The “Medico-legal study of suicidal death” was undertaken in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Govt. Medical College, Aurangabad for a period of 6 months. Two hundred cases are included. These cases were studied and analyzed on the basis of age, sex, marital status, methods and cause of suicide. Male outnumbered the female with majority in age group of 19-32 years, married and commonest cause was insanity in males and dowry in females.

ABSTRACT

Forensic dentistry is implicated in civil, criminal and research. It is useful for determination of age, sex and race in disputed cases. Age can be determined by using the criteria like eruption and calcification of teeth, Stack’s method, Miles formula, Boyde’s method and Gustafson’s method. For determination of sex Visual/ clinical, Microscopic and Advanced criteria are used. The peculiarities of the teeth will help in determination of race. Various methods like Universal system, Palmer’s system, Haderup system, Federation Dentuire Internationale (FDI), Modified Federation Dentuire Internationale (Modified FDI) and Zigmondy’s method are in use for charting of teeth worldwide. The knowledge of interpretation, preservation and correlation of bite marks will be helpful in administration of justice.
