ABSTRACT

Objective:To research whether ectopic over-expression of Pim-2 could cause chang-liver cell (LO2) malignant transformation,to explore the relationship between Pim-2 protein and hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods:Three groups of cells were arranged including human chang liver cell line LO2 (group C),LO2 cells transfected with empty-vector (group B) and LO2 cells transfected with Pim-2 gene (group A).Pim-2 expression levels were detected. The morphology, proliferation level, apoptosis rate and migration ability of the cells were detected respectively. The cells were subcutaneously inoculated into athymic mice and the microstructures of the neoplasm were observed by optical and electron microscopy. Results:Compared with group B,Pim-2 expression levels were significantly higher in group A (P<0.05),and their morphology had obvious malignant changes. They also showed a significantly increased proliferation rate (P<0.05) and migration capacity (P<0.05),as well as a significantly decreased apoptosis rate (P<0.05).Only the athymic mice inoculated with group A could generate neoplasm, and the morphology of the neoplasm coincided with that of the hepatoma. Conclusion:Both the morphological and biological changes of LO2/Pim-2 cells indicate the trend of malignant transformation, which could generate hepatoma in athymic mice.Pim-2 could induce malignant transformation of human liver.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of preoperative prophylactic parenteral nutrition on prognosis of advanced gastric cancer. Methods A total of 159 patients with advanced gastric cancer in our hospital were collected, and randomly divided into experimental group and control group.80 cases in experimental group were treated with prophylactic parenteral nutrition, and 79 cases in control group were treated with traditional nutrition. The partial indexes of liver function, complications and mortality rate were compared between the two groups before and after surgery. Results The levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST),alanine aminotransferase (ALT),total bilirubin (TBIL) and direct bilirubin (DBIL) were much lower in experimental group than in control group at 8 days after surgery (t=6.542,6.460,5.634,5.275,all P<0.001).The levels of ALB and PAB were much higher in experimental group than in control group at 2 and 8 days after surgery (t=12.580,12.471,6.757,12.821,all P<0.001).The incidence of complications and mortality rate were much lower in experimental group than in control group (x2 =23.409,4.818,P<0.001 or 0.05).Conclusions Preoperative prophylactic parenteral nutrition can speed up the recovery of liver function and reduce the complications and mortality rate after surgery in patients with advanced gastric cancer.

ABSTRACT

As a first-grade carcinogen, the dioxin had caused huge food safety and political crisis as well as economic losses, and posed unacceptable health risk to consumers in some European countries. The international community has commonly shown great concerns for the issue.Three specific researches on the dietary exposure risk of Australian consumers posed by dioxin have been undertaken in Australia since 2001.Reliable results of the research have been obtained. This paper outlined origin, development and the status of the Australian dioxin dietary exposure assessment.Prospecting for developing the dioxin dietary exposure assessment in China has been put forward based on the discussion of the Australian experience.
