ABSTRACT

Reprogramming of metabolism is one of the most critical features in tumorigenesis and tumor growth. Many types of cancer show an increased demand for specific amino acids, rely on exogenous supplies, or alter amino acid metabolic pathways, leading to changes in corresponding amino acid levels to meet the need of tumorigenesis. Therefore, if the level of tumor growth-dependent amino acids can be effectively controlled, a new treatment strategy can be developed from the perspective of cell metabolism. At present, remarkable progress has been made in this field. This paper outlines the amino acid metabolic pathways closely related to tumorigenesis and tumor growth, and summarizes the corresponding regulatory mechanisms and active molecules. Finally, the direction of the field is discussed and prospected for future development.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation between nurses' work alienation and silence behavior. Methods 603 registered nurses were recruited from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou. They were investigated with Alienation Scale and Work Silence Behavior Scale. Results The scores of work alienation and silence behavior were (34.35±6.53) points and (37.66±6.46) points respectively, and both of them were at the medial level.Work alienation was positively related to silence behavior (r=0.603).All dimensions of work alienation were positively related to all dimensions of silence behavior (P < 0.01).The predictors of silence behavior were age, nursing working years, job title, department, frustration, helplessness and meaningless, explained 42.2% of its variance. Conclusions Work alienation has positive effect to silence behavior. The administrators in hospitals should focus on nurse, work alienation and silence behavior, and reduce silence behavior by reducing work alienation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the correlation between nursing students' hardiness personality and professional commitment. Methods 1 115 undergraduate nursing students from 3 medical universities in Guangzhou were investigated with the scales of hardiness personality and nursing professional commitment. Results The scores of hardiness personality and professional commitment were (2.55 ± 0.44) and (2.70 ± 0.43),respectively,and both of them were at the middle level.Correlation analysis revealed that hardiness personality was positively related to professional commitment (P<0.01),and the challenge dimension of hardiness personality had positive predictive effect on professional commitment. Conclusions Nursing educators should take measures to improve students' hardiness personality and professional commitment. It would help maintain the stability of the whole nursing team.

ABSTRACT

Boronic acids and their derivatives have been widely used in carbohydrate-sensitive materials because they can selectively bind 1,2-and 1,3-diol compounds, including sugars, to form cyclic boronate esters. In this work, pheylboronic acid ( PBA) moieties were grafted onto the backbone of poly( acrylic acid) ( PAA) through the condensation reaction between aminopheyl-boronic acid and carboxylic acid group of PAA in the presence of EDC/NHS, designed as PAA-PBA. Then the resulting PAA-PBA were assembled with poly ( ethyleneimine) ( PEI) to form PAA-PBA multilayer films. The sensing performance of the PEI/PAA-PBA film to carbohydrate (> 50 μg/mL ) , including glucose, fructose, mannose and galactose, has been investigated by combination of the complementary techniques of quartz crystal microbalance ( QCM ) and atomic force microscopy ( AFM) . It was demonstrated that the multilayer showed higher sensitivity to fructose than glucose, mannose and galactose. The interferences of ascorbic acid, uric acid and dopamine to the recognition of glucose can be avoided and the multilayer sensor with excellent long term stability can be recycled by changing pH value of buffer solutions. This system may be potential in realization of high selectivity and high sensitivity sensing system for probing carbohydrate.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the experience of self-perceived burden in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and provide evidence for clinical nursing interventions. Methods Indepth interviews were conducted among 17 patients with COPD using phenomenological method of qualitative research.Data were analyzed with the Colaizzi's method. Results 3 themes was identified:self-accusation and guilt, loss of dignity and powerlessness, concern and insecurity. Conclusions Nurses should take the experience of SPB in patients with COPD seriously and take the influence of SPB into account during the process of nursing interventions and evaluation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Shenluotong on the expression of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) and extracellular matrix (ECM) in Ang II-induced MCs.

METHODFibronectin (FN) and collagen type IV (Col IV) of extracellular matrix were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; the expression of TGF-beta1 mRNA were measured by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.

RESULTA positive correlation between TGF-beta1 and ECM were found in the present study. FN, Col IV and TGF-beta1 mRNA were inhibited by Shenluotong significantly.

CONCLUSIONShenluotong can decrease the accumulation of ECM and inhibit the expression of TGF-beta1, suggesting further that shenluotong can be used to prevent and treat various glomerular diseases and delay glomerular sclerosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo examine 10 cases with primary cutaneous CD30-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), analyze their clinical manifestations and pathological and immunohistochemical features, and improve early diagnosis of this disease.

METHODSWe studied the morphological characteristics of primary cutaneous CD30-positive ALCL using histopathological methods. Leukocyte common antigen (LCA), CD20, CD30, CD45RO, CD68, epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), cytokeratin (CK) and HMB45 antibodies were used to determine the expression of their respective antigens from routine paraffin samples of the patients.

RESULTSTen patients (7 men and 3 women, aged 31 to 84 years) complained of subcutaneous masses or papular eruptions over their lower trunks and extremities. Histopathologically, the lesions were composed of numerous large round or oval pleomorphic cells. The cytoplasm was usually abundant, amphophilic or basophilic, and finely vacuolated. Nuclei were commonly eccentrically localized and lobated or horseshoed in shape, and multinucleated giant cells and Reed-Sternberg-like cells were seen. Nucleoli were generally multiple and large. Of the 10 patients, tumor cells displayed positive antigen expression of CD30 in all cases, positive CD45RO in 6 cases, positive CD20 in only 1 case, but negative CD45RO and CD20 expressions in 3 cases. Two patients died at 7 weeks and 3.4 years of follow-up, respectively.

CONCLUSIONOur study highlights the importance of histopathologic features and positive CD30 staining for differentiation of this disease from other malignant skin tumors.
