ABSTRACT

The cephalometric lateral x-rays have excellent importance in Dentistry, being that radiographics equipment exists in the market different that must be evaluated how much to the quality of image, in order to promote a trustworthiness cephalometric analysis. In the present work the degree of distortion in 16 cephalometric x-rays was evaluated, had compared the gotten images of four dry skulls in four different radiographics equipment, analyzing statistical the results. In the skulls 10 orthodontic wires, with 1 mm of diameter, measuring 1 cm of length, made use in the vertical and horizontal direction in the upper/lower alveolar rim of the right side, and 3 spheres measuring 3 mm of diameter made use in the jaw had been fixed with wax utility (right side) a little above of the line of occlusion of teeth. The comparative analysis of the results showed that the measurements of the magnification had varied on average of 9,65 mm 9,26 mm for 10 orthodontic wires, and on average of 3,60 mm 3,12 mm for all the measures of the 3 spheres, independent of the exposition side to be the right or left. We verify that no equipment presented form distortion, and yes magnifying or reduction of the measured structures, and the equipment Gnatus and Rotograph had been the ones that they had more extended, probably for presenting the biggest distance object-film. The analysis descriptive statistics ANOVA and the tests post hoc of Bonferroni, Tamhane and Scheffé had shown as resulted, p = 0, for wires placed in the vertical line, where we can conclude that significant differences between the averages of the measures of the images of the four devices exist; for wires located in the horizontal line, as the value was of p = 0,9980...
