ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to present a clinical case reportin which aesthetic direct composite resin veneer technique was employed as a restorative alternative to treat anterior teeth. Case report: Aesthetic veneers were made on the maxillary anterior teeth of a patient, female, 38 years old,who attended the Integrated Dental Clinics at Federal University of Paraiba complaining of aesthetic dis satisfaction with her old fillings. The treatment was initiated by endodontic and periodontal procedures in order to provide the patient with hygiene conditions. After tooth color selection, isolation of operative field was performed and teeth were prepared using diamond burs #1014 and #2135 (KG Sorensen, SãoPaulo, Brazil). Subsequent steps consisted of dental acidetching, adhesive system application, and composite resin insertion, sculpture, finishing and polishing. Conclusion: It is concluded that the use of composite resins to aesthetically rehabilitate anterior teeth has represented a conservative and feasible alternative for dental treatment, and itreestablishes the patient’s biological and psychological health.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate comparatively the methodology of micro-shear and shear bond strength using the two available bonding strategies self etching and total etching techniques. Forty bovine incisors were cut and embedded in PVC tubes with acrylic resin. The buccal surfaces were flattened and exposed with SiC paper. For the shear bond strength test, an area of 4mm in diameter was delimited and the adhesive systems were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. A composite cylinder (Filtek-Z250 - 3M ESPE) of 4mm diameter and 5mm height were built in the area. The samples for microshear were made use of Tygon tubes with 0,7mm in internal diameter in 0,5mm height, using the same composite. Loading were carried out at crosshead speed of 1,0mm/min using an orthodontic wire loop of 0,3mm diameter. The results showed that for shear test the Adper Single Bond presented higher values with statistical significance to Clearfil SE Bond (p=0,037). For the micro-shear test statistical difference was not observed (p=0,780). The samples were submitted to SEM for a fracture pattern classification. For the shear bond test were observed adhesive and dentin cohesive failures for both adhesive systems. For micro-shear bond test were observed a high prevalence of adhesive failures. According to the results it was possible to conclude that micro-shear bond test was more appropriated to evaluate the resistance of bond strength in interface composite/dentin

ABSTRACT

The fragility of endodontically treated teeth is justified by the significant removal of dental tissue during the preparation of the duct. The use of the intraradicular posts tends to increase the resistance to fracture of the dental remainder and the retention of the restoring material. This work presents a clinical case in full detail, in which an intraradicular post of fiberglass was used in a dental element previously treated endodontically, highlighting the easiness of the technique and a clinical evaluation after one and a half year. The authors concluded that it is prudent to recommend the employment of posts of fiberglass for these cases to dissipate the masticatory loads along the root, which in turn decreases the risk of fractures
