ABSTRACT

Obsessive use of the internet is associated with isolation, depression, loneliness and anxiety which are called internet addiction. The aim of this was to determine the correlation between loneliness and internet addiction in Qom branch of Islamic Azad University students. In this descriptive-correlational study, 148 students of Qom Branch of Islamic Azad University were selected through random sampling. Date collection was carried out through "Loneliness Scale", Yang "Internet Addiction Test" and demographic variables questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS/12. The sample consisted of 56.08% male and 20.94% married people. Results showed there was a significant correlation between loneliness and two subscales of relationship with family [P<0.001] and affective symptoms [P<0.001] with internet addiction. Also there was no significant correlation between factors such as age, gender and marital status with internet addiction. It is recommended to provide an appropriate and effective consultation times for the students, identify the causes of loneliness in them and providing appropriate solutions for the reduction, prevent secondary complications such as internet addiction

ABSTRACT

Hearing impairment in critical period of speech and language development is caused defects in oral and written language. The aim of this study is to use a test for comparing the reading skills of elementary fifth grade hearing and moderately severe hearing loss students in public schools. In this cross sectional study, 10 hearing impaired children selected from the total number of fifth grade moderately severe hearing loss students' community [public schools] based on the inclusion criteria and compared with 10 hearing children that were matched according to grade, as a control group. In order to gather the data, reading and writing tests for school students was used. Data analysis was done through SPSS-16. The findings indicated that hearing impaired children on auditory discrimination skills [P=0.001], word auditory memory [P=0.034] sentence auditory memory [P<0.001], phonological blending [P=0.034], phonological segmentation [P=0.012] and text reading comprehension [P=0.044] were significantly weaker than the control group, but they had similar function in other skills. Children with hearing impairment have the same function in tasks based on visual processing to normal children, whereas, in tasks based on auditory and phonological processing are weaker than them

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Burnout is the individuals' response to stress factors of work place and leads to changes in peoples' attitudes and behaviors toward work and environment. Aim of this study was to determine the correlation between organizational culture and burnout in the staff of Tehran province welfare organization


Materials and methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, 189 people were selected through random sampling. To collect data, demographic questionnaire,' Hofstede Organizational Culture Questionnaire' and 'Maslach Burnout Questionnaire' were used. To analyze the collected data by SPSS 12, Independent T-test, Mann-Whitney U, One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis were applied


Findings: The sample consisted of 38.1% male and 61% female .Results also showed that 9% of respondents were married. The mean age of the sample was 37.66[SD: 6.77] and the mean of employment years was 12.93[SD: 6.93]. In addition, findings revealed that, the characteristics of the organizational culture of the research community are as follows: cultural balance with a trend to masculinity, collectivism, fairly high uncertainty avoidance and highdistant of power. Burnout in emotional exhaustion and depersonalization was low whereas in personal accomplishment [frequency and intensity] were in medium levels. Analytic findings disclosed that the intensity of personal under-accomplishment was related positively and significantly with individualism-collectivism [P=0.03] and uncertainty avoidance [P=0.02]


Conclusion: The results suggested that organizational culture [individualism-collectivism and uncertainty avoidance] has a positive significant correlation with burnout [intensity of personal accomplishment]
