ABSTRACT

Acute flaccid neuromuscular weakness is a frequently encountered and sometimes potentially fatal condition presenting in emergency room. Apart from conditions such as snake bite, Guillain-Barre syndrome and myasthenia gravis, hypokalemia due to a variety of causes is an important and potentially treatable cause. However, treatment modalities will differ in each of the above described diseases and it requires careful evaluation of patient to reach the final diagnosis. We report a case who presented with hypokalemic paralysis in emergency room. By step-wise approach and ruling out other causes, we finally reached the diagnosis.
