Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii in a brazilian AIDS patient

The great majority of clinical isolates from AIDS patients have been characterized as Cryptococcus neoformansvar, neoformans. Cryptococcus neoformans var. gatti rarely has been isolated form AIDS patients, even tropical and subtropical areas where this variety has a high prevalence in nonimmunosuppressed patients. A case of cryptococcosis caused by C. neoformans var. gatti in a Brazilian AIDS patient is reported
