ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the prevalence and related factors of depressive symptoms in Chinese college students before and after the COVID-19 epidemic and to provide a reference for mental health education and management.@*Methods@#Database of PubMed, Cochrane, CBM, WanFang, CNKI and CIP were searched for the studies on depressive symptoms in Chinese college students using the Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS) or the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). All the literatures were classified according to the publication time before and after the epidemic around January 2020. Meta analysis was performed by using Stata15.1.@*Results@#There were 26 articles before the epidemic, with a total sample size of 76 816 participants, and 18 articles after the epidemic, with a total sample size of 102 653 participants . The detection rate of depressive symptoms in college students after the epidemic was higher than that before the epidemic (35.7%, 30.9%). Fifteen factors were included in the Meta analysis. There was a positive correlation between being third year in college and college students before the epidemic ( OR = 1.27 ). Before and after the epidemic, being fourth year in college, introvert personality, breakfast skipping, physically unhealthy, poor family economy, single parent, staying up late and poor sleep quality were all positively correlated with depression of college students ( OR =1.44,1.35;1.68,2.01;3.33,3.03;2.21,4.99;1.80,1.89;2.33,1.92;1.53,3.08;2.23,2.97), while high social support and physical exercise were negatively correlated with depression for depressive symptoms in college students( OR =0.57,0.55; 0.78, 0.60 )( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#The detection rate of depressive symptoms among college students after the epidemic is higher. The effect of introversion, physical exercise, physically unhealthy, poor sleep quality and staying up late are higher after pandemic compared than before the epidemic. The targeted mental intervention and health education should be strengthened.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Studying the relationship between flexibility and body composition of college students is of great significance for enhancing the levels of physical health and sports. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between sit-and-reach and body composition of college students in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and differences between sexes. METHODS: Totally 2 175 students from a Guangxi university were randomly selected. Body composition was determined by the MC-180 body composition tester. The students were divided into four groups: ≤ 12.10 cm group,> 12.10-16.40 cm group,> 16.40-20.70 group and> 20.70 group according to quartile of sit-and-reach measured in accordance with the National Physical Health Test Standard. All data were processed by SPSS 22.0 software. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Sit-and-reach was significantly correlated with body mass index, percentage of body fat, fat-free mass index, upper limb lean mass and lower limb lean mass (P < 0.05), and percentage of body fat was negatively correlated with sit-and-reach (P < 0.05). The body mass index, fat-free mass index, upper limb lean mass and lower limb lean mass in the ≤ 12.10 cm group were significantly lower than those in the other groups. Fat-free mass index and upper limb lean mass were correlated with sit-and-reach in male college students (P < 0.05). The fat-free mass index and upper limb lean mass in the> 16.40-20.70 cm group were significantly higher than those in the ≤ 12.10 cm group. Therefore, there is a positive correlation between the flexibility and fat-free mass index and upper limb lean mass in college students.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare a novel mirror-overlap method with the traditional manual measurement and the subjective assessment in assessing breast symmetry after oncoplastic surgery. Methods 59 patients with breast cancer who underwent conservation/reconstruction surgery were recruited. The post-operative assessment for breast symmetry was conducted using manual measurement, subjective assessment by the patient, their family member and a nurse, and the mirror-overlap method respectively. The latter method involved using the Photoshop to assess the area differences in breast outlines and shadows created by a flashlight when bilateral images were overlapped in the axis of midline. Results The distance differences between bilateral breasts measured using manual method were negatively correlated with symmetric coefficients in the mirror-overlap method (P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between the average scores in the subjective assessment and symmetric coefficients of mirror-overlap method (P<0.05).Conclusion The mirror-overlap method is an easy, feasible and cheap method which collects 3D breast information and provides an effective approach to assess breast symmetry after oncoplastic surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective Less than a decade ago, ER-positive and PgR-positive diagnostic criteria decrease from 10%to 1%. Up to 20%of current immunohistochemical determinations of ER and PgR worldwide may be inaccu-rate. It is necessary to study patients whose tumors are between luminal A (LABC) and triple-negative (TNBC) breast cancer. Methods Survival analysis grouping by the level of positive hormone receptor, CK5/6 and EGFR, and en-docrine therapy was carried out in 206 patients whose tumors were junction zone between LABC and TNBC. Re-sults There were no significant differences between the low-positive (1%-9%) HR group and positive HR (10%-19%) group in overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). There was an apparent difference between the nor-mal-like group and basal-like group in OS and DFS, and between the patients with and without endocrine therapy. There were significant differences between death and tumor progression for EGFR and CK5/6, chemotherapy, and endocrine therapy. Conclusions We conclude that EGFR and CK5/6 are better prognostic indicators than the lev-el of positive HR in patients whose tumors are junction zone at the junction zone between LABC and TNBC. En-docrine therapy can be highly beneficial to these patients regardless of the positive HR level.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the extent of axillary lymph node dissection which can not only ef-fectively evaluate the axillary status but also reduce the complications to the minimum in early stage breast can-cer. Methods 331 patients with early breast cancer surgically treated from Jan. 2011 to Dec. 2013 were retro-spectively analyzed. Their preoperative axillary state was evaluated. They undertook sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) by pure methylene blue dye method and frozen section examination during surgery. According to the ex-tent of axillary lymph nodes dissection, patients were divided into SLNB group (98 cases) and intercostobrachial nerve level lymph node dissection (ILND) group (233 cases). The pros and cons of the operation were compared. Results The sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) labeled by methylene blue were located under the intercostobrachial nerve level. The average number of SLN and intercostobrachial nerve level lymph nodes were 5.64+1.68 and 13.34+3.61 respectively. The detection rate and the false negative rate of SLNB was 97.42% and 2.58% respec-tively. The medium follow-up was 27.5 months. There was no significant difference in postoperative complications including upper limb paresthesia, swelling or limitation of shoulder activity between the two groups. Conclusion ILND is an effective and suitable surgical method in early breast cancer patients with failed intraoperative SLN labeling or with one SLN metastasis.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to review the research progress on the contribution of microRNA (miRNA) to the chemotherapy re-sistance of breast cancer. With“miRNA,”“breast cancer,”and“chemotherapy resistance”as key words, the literature was searched in Pubmed and CNKI databases between 01-2000 and 10-10-2012. We described the characteristics and mechanisms of breast cancer che-motherapy resistance and focused on the contribution of miRNAs in the chemotherapy resistance of breast cancer. MiRNA participate in chemotherapy resistance of breast cancer through different ways. This article summarizes different miRNAs that participate in che-motherapy resistance and identifies their specific pathways in drug resistance. The potential clinical utilization of the serum miRNA as a tumor marker is also discussed. Further research on the effect and mechanism of serum microRNA in chemotherapy resistance will bring a new chapter in the targeted therapy of breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are relatively common mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract characterized by c-kit mutations and the stomach is the commonly involved site.Clinical and pathological diagnosis of GISTs can be achieved by B sonography, computed tomography and immunohistochemical detection of marker CD117.Surgical resection of GISTs has been the most effective therapy.Target therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors may reduce the development of recurrence or progression of GISTs.The optimized method of diagnosis and treatment of huge GISTs is still controversial. In this paper, the diagnosis and treatment for huge GIST combined with large right inguinal hernia were discussed.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Tissue-engineered skin plays an important role in the repair and reconstruction of large-area skin lesion. Little is known about the effects of Chinese medicine-loading tissue-engineered skin scaffold on cell adhesion and wound surface infection. OBJECTIVE: To screen the application concentration of shengji solution, which can promote tissue regeneration, using keratinocytes and fibroblasts, and to observe the effects of shengji solution-gelatin-chitosan drug-loading skin scaffold on cellular adhesion and biocompatibility. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Taking keratinocytes and fibroblasts as subjects, the present randomized and controlled experiment was performed at the Laboratory of Cell Engineering, Orthopedic Institute, Tianjin Hospital between February and August 2005. MATERIALS: One healthy big-ear rabbit was included for harvesting skin seed cells. Shengji solution, Danggui (Radix Angelicee Sinensis) and Shengdi (rehmannia dride rhizome) extract (self-extracted, 1.5 g/mL), gelatin-chitosan scaffold and shengji solution-gelatin-chitosan scaffold were provided by Tianjin University, China. METHODS: Passage 3 keratinocytes and fibroblasts were harvested by dispase Ⅱ- trypsase- ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA) digestion. The prepared cells were divided into 5 groups: control, shengji solution, Danggui, Shengdi, and epidermal growth factor (EGF). Common culture solution containing 0.1 volume fraction of fetal bovine serum, shengjisolution (5, 6, 8, and 12 g/L), Danggui extract (8 g/L), Shengdi extract (8 g/L), and EGF culture medium (10 μ g/L) were used in corresponding groups for cell culture. At 1, 3, 5, and 7 days, cellular proliferation was detected by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. Keratinocytes and fibroblasts were cultured in different concentrations of shengji solution (50, 60, 80, and 120 g/L) and grouped according to different concentrations. At 7 and 14 days, cellular adhesion was observed by semi-quantitative method. At 4, 7, and 14 days, keratinocytes cultured by 60 and 80 g/L shengji solution were harvested for hematoxylin-eosin staining and subsequent scanning electron microscope observation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Effects of shengji solution on skin seed cell proliferation; effects of drug-loading scaffold on cellular adhesion; and cell-carrier biocompatibility. RESULTS: MIF detection results demonstrated that cells significantly proliferated after treatment of 5, 6, and 8 g/L shengji solution compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Obvious proliferation of passage 3 keratinocytes and fibroblasts was found on 60 and 80 g/L drug-loading scaffold. Keratinocytes on the drug-loading scaffold exhibited good cellular morphology and closely adhered to the scaffold. Shengji solution had no apparent toxic effects on cells. CONCLUSION: Shengji solution (60 and 80 g/L)-gelatin-chitosan scaffold can effectively promote the adhesion and proliferation of keratinocytes and fibroblasts.

ABSTRACT

The gentamicin sulfate carried calcium sulfate (GSCS) implants were fabricated by the coagulating method, and the release rate of the gentamicin tested by UV-spectrometer and the absorbing rate of the calcium sulfate carrier in vitro were studied. The release patterns of two types of GSCS were compared. The trend of daily weight loss of GSCS was found being similar to that of pure calcium sulfate, which suggested that the gentamicin part has little effect on the absorbing pattern of calcium sulfate. The release rate of gentamicin is controlled by the erosion rate of calcium sulfate, so GSCS with different amount of gentamicin has the same release patterns. The DRP value of ED is higher than that of CO during the early stage, while the DRP value of ED is lower than that of CO during the late stage. The GSCS samples were implanted into the defect mold on the radii of the rabbits to investigate the potential for the use of GSCS implants as bone fillers, and the results revealed that new bone had been induced in a great part of the defect at 14 weeks after operation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The Chinese medicine, Sheng-Ji Ointment, is utilized to cure bone defect due to infectious open fractures in the clinical field. So it was imagined that it was a new inductive factor of osteogenesis and its ingredients could acceleate the proliferation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and induce them into osteoblasts. In our primary experiment, the Sheng-Ji liquor, which was extracted from the same Chinese herbs with Sheng-Ji Ointment, had been identified that it affected the proliferation of BMSCs with its different concentration.OBJECTTVE: To investigate the effect of Sheng-Ji liquor on the osteogenesis of in vitro cultured BMSCs from rabbit tibia.DESTGN: An observation in single kind of sample.SETTING: Orthopaedic Research Institute of Tianjin Hospital.MATERIALS: The experiment was carried out in the Tissue Engineering Laboratory of Tianjin Orthopadic Institute of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine from October 2004 to December 2005. BMSCs were obtainedfrom male healthy Japanese long-eared rabbits of 3 months old, (3.5±0.5) kg. Sheng-Ji liquor (5×102 g/L) was extracted from the Chinese herbs with Sheng-Ji Ointment (Tianjin Factory of Chinese Crude-drug and Cut Crude-drug), including the crude drugs of angelica, rehmannia dride rhizome, carapax testudinis, corium elephatis and crinis carbonisatus.METHODS: The Sheng-Ji liquor was put to BMSCs in different concentrations of 25, 8.3, 5 g/L. Basic medium without Sheng-Ji liquor was taken as blank control, while the standard-controlled medium contained the ingredients of the following blank-controlled medium, dexamethasone 10-8 mol/L, vitamin C 0.05 g/L and β-sodium glycerophosphate 10 mmol/L. The BMSCs passaged in different conditions were seeded in plate and cultured for 2-3 weeks, then the mineralized nodes were observed under inverted fluorescence microscope, and the cell expressions were observed with acheomycin labeling and collegan Ⅰ immunohistochemical staining. The culture medium was collected to determine the contents of extracellular and intracellular alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OCN) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), then the ratios of ALP/LDH and OCN/LDH were calculated.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: After 2 and 3-week culture, the mineralized nodes, results of acheomycin labeling and collegan Ⅰ immunohistochemical staining, and the ratios of ALP/LDH and OCN/LDH were observed.were prolonged, proliferated assembly and overlapped. The inter-cell limits disappeared gradually and sporadic cellular Results of acheomycin labeling and collegan Ⅰ immunohistochemical staining: There were positive cells and mineralized nodes in all of groups with Sheng-Ji liquor and standard-controlled group. BMSCs of the blank-controlled group were negative. The positive cells and mineralized nodes were green with yellowish color under irrigation of fluorescence; The results of immunocytochemistry for collagen Ⅰ were positive in all of groups with Sheng-Ji liquor and standard-controlled group. The result of blank-controlled group was negative. The positive induced BMSCs had the cytoplasm with granula of highest as compared with the other groups (P < 0.05).
