ABSTRACT

Objective:To understand the willingness of breast cancer patients to participate in lymphatic reflux training and management after surgery, and analyze its influencing factors. Methods:A total of 157 postoperative patients with breast cancer were selected by convenience sampling method. The investigation tools included general information questionnaire and lymphedema health belief questionnaire.Results:64.3% (101/157) of the patients were willing to participate in lymphatic reflux training and management. Logistic regression analysis showed that ethnic group ( OR=0.06, 95% CI 0.01-0.68), divorce ( OR=0.08, 95% CI 0.01-0.89), benefit cognition ( OR=12.41, 95% CI 4.26-36.19), obstacle cognition ( OR=3.83, 95% CI 1.48-9.91), behavioral clues ( OR=3.72, 95% CI 1.51-9.20) were significant influencing factors of parents' willness of participating in lymphatic reflux training and management( P<0.05). Conclusion:The willingness of patients to participate in lymphatic reflux training and management is at a medium level, which was influenced by ethnic group, marital status, health belief of benefits cognition, obstacle cognition and behavioral clues. Attention should be paid to the implementation during health education for the prevention of lymphedema, and patient′s willness of participating in lymphatic reflux training and management should be improved.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the prediction of weight loss to the function 1 month after surgery in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients with surgical treatment. Methods During August to November 2017, 122 HNC patients from a tertiary hospital in Chengdu were included and investigated by the General Information Questionnaire and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30. Results 1 month after surgery, the function scores of HNC patients ranged from 86.67(73.33, 93.33) to 100.00(100.00, 100.00), and the physical function score was the lowest. Patients with weight loss during hospitalization had lower score in physical, role and social function ( P<0.05). According to the results of Logistic regression analysis, age ( OR=6.262, P<0.05) and Weight loss during hospitalization ( OR=4.363, P<0.05) were risk factors for the physical function of HNC patients 1 month after surgery. For social function 1 month after surgery, weight loss during hospitalization ( OR=3.306, P<0.05) was the risk factor. Conclusions Weight loss during hospitalization in HNC patients with surgical treatment can predict the impairment of function 1 month after surgery. Healthcare providers should pay more attention to perioperative nutritional problems of HNC patients, especially the elder patients, and take effective interventions to control the weight during hospitalization to improve patients′function and quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore nurses′ perceptions of patient safety culture in emergency departments at tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province. Methods By convenient sampling method,a total of 210 emergency nurses from 6 tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province were investigated with a general data questionnaire and a hospital survey on patient safety scale. Results 68.10% of the emergency nurses had positive perceptions of patient safety culture, as evidenced by the following indicators. The organization learning and continuous improvement (74. 27%), hospital management support for patient safety (72.70%), supervisor/manager expectations and actions promoting safety (78.10%), were the safety culture areas with higher percentage of positive response. Areas of non-punitive response to errors (19.67%), staffing (41.08%) had the lowest percentage of positive response. There were significant differences between such groups as years of working, education background and job title. Conclusions Patient safety culture should be improved in the emergency departments of the tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province, especially in the adverse events reporting system and staffing problem. Safety training deserves greater attention in nurses with less working experience, education background or job title in emergency departments.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the effect of subject-centered informed consent in nursing research. Methods:We adopted the subject-centered informed consent in a pilot study on precision symptom in breast cancer patients.Specific measures were taken included offering training for researchers about skills regarding subject-centered informed consent, standardizing the explanation for the informed consent forms, allowing sufficient time for subjects to read the informed consent forms, encouraging subjects to raise questions to researchers, confirming that the subject were fully informed and understood the contents, subjects and researchers jointly signing, and finally, using the checklist to review the entire process. The questions and feedback about the subject-centered informed consent were statistically analyzed. Results:Almost all of patients(96.67%) were able to read the consent forms by themselves, three subjects raised questions to the researcher after reading the forms, and all subjects in our study were satisfied with the informed consent process. Conclusion:The subject-centered informed consent approach makes sure that the subjects' fights of informed consent are fully respected and is an important measure to ensure subjects' fights of informed consent.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the status quo and the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience of emergency and ICU nurses in tertiary general hospitals in Chengdu. Methods A total of 660 emergency and ICU nurses were surveyed by a pack of questionnaires including the General Information Questionnaire, the Resilience Scale and the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale. Results The average total score of the resilience scale was 123.07 ±23.76 and the average item score of the resilience scale was 4.92±0.95. The average total score of the emotional intelligence scale was 58.69±8.74 and the average item score of the emotional intelligence scale was 3.67±0.55. The correlation coefficient between the emotional intelligence and the resilience was 0.62 (P<0.01). Three subdimensions of the emotional intelligence including the usage of emotion, the appraisal of self-emotion, the regulation of emotion and the positions of nurses accounted for 43.3%of the variances of the resilience. Conclusions Emotional intelligence played an important role in affecting the psychological resilience of emergency and ICU nurses in tertiary general hospitals in Chengdu, it could positively predict the resilience of nurses.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the degree of resilience of emergency nurses and ICU nurses, and analyze the effects of resilience on work engagement of nurses working in the emergency and ICU departments in tertiary hospitals in Chengdu city. Methods This was a cross-sectional survey. A total number of 660 nurses from7 hospital in Chengdu were selected by a convenient sampling method. Results The mean resilience score of the emergency and ICU nurses in Sichuan province was (123.07± 23.76) points, the mean score of work engagement was(2.70±1.20) points. There was a positive relationship between emergency and ICU nurses′ resilience score and nurses′ work engagement (r=0.394, P < 0.01). Nurses with higher level of resilience indicated higher work engagement score (F=35.77, P < 0.05). Conclusions The resilience score of the emergency and ICU nurses in tertiary hospitals of Chengdu city was at a low level. Higher resilient emergency and ICU nurses tended to have the higher level of work engagement.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the current status about nursing undergraduate students' knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP)regarding nosocomial infection. Methods The self-administered questionnaires were employed to survey 108 undergraduate nursing students on the basis of a simple random sampling method. Results In the knowledge dimension, the nursing students earned 78.3% of accuracy rate when responding to the questionnaires. The students also demonstrated positive attitudes towards nosocomial infection and occupational safety, particularly the female students. In terms of practice, the students performed relatively poor as 36.1% of the students were unclear about the classification of medical garbage and 22.2% of the students used their non-clean hands to touch their eye-glasses.Conclusions The undergraduate nursing students have demonstrated adequate knowledge and proper attitude towards nosocomial infection and occupational safety, however, some behaviors need to be changed.Nursing schools and hospitals should be aware of these findings and provide more training programs regarding nosocomial infection and occupational safety so that they can help students formulate good habits to prevent and control nosocomial infection.
