ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus acupoint application in treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).Method Sixty patients were randomized into two groups, 30 cases in each group. The acupuncture group was intervened by acupuncture at Neiguan (PC6), Zhongwan (CV12), and Zusanli (ST36), etc, plus application withBai Jie Zi(Semen Brassicae) powder at Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV4), and Tianshu (ST25), etc; the medication group was prescribed with oral administration of Trimebutine maleate capsules (0.2 g each dose, 3 times a day). Four-week treatment was taken as a course. The symptoms score and quality of life (QOL) scale were evaluated prior to and after the treatment.Result The clinical symptoms were significantly improved in the acupuncture group, and the total effective rate was89.3%, significantly higher than 63.0% in the medication group (P<0.05). After 4-week treatment, the clinical symptoms scores of the two groups were analyzed by rank-sum test (Z=-19.627,P=0.000<0.05), revealing a significant difference between the two groups and indicating that the improvements of clinical symptoms in the acupuncture group were more significant than those in the medication group. After 4-week treatment, the general QOL scores of the two groups were examined by rank-sum test (Z=-10.039, P=0.000<0.05), revealing a significant difference between the two groups and indicating that the improvement of QOL in the acupuncture group was superior to that in the medication group. Conclusion Acupuncture plus acupoint application can obviously mitigateabdominal pain and discomfort.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To detect the relationship between variant of rsl255372 in transcription factor 7-Like 2(TCF7L2) gene and the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Tianjin Han populations. Methods: Three hundred and fifty-two T2DM patients and 176 healthy controls were randomly selected to extract the genome DNA. Denaturing high performance liquid chromatography was used to detect the PCR amplified fragment. The different peaks were chosen for sequencing. The differences of different genotype frequency between the groups were analysed. The Logistic regression was used to evaluate the risk factors of T2DM. Results: The G/T genotype frequencies of rsl2255372 were 18.5% and 2.8% in T2DM group and healthy control group respectively (P < 0.05). The G/T genotype, glycosylated hemoglobin, urea nitrogen and the systolic blood pressure were the independent risk factors of T2DM, and the high density lipoprotein was the protective factor. There was no significant difference of the G/T genotype frequency in T2DM patients with different complications. Conclusion: This study indicates that G/T genotype in the TCF7L2 gene significantly contributes to T2DM susceptibility in Tianjin Han populations. The G/T genotype is one of the risk factors of the T2DM.

ABSTRACT

Objective The contents of total sugar, polysaccharide, amino acid,betaine,carotenoid,flavone,hundred-seed weight of Lycium barbarum fruits from eight different habitats in first stubble, prosperous time, and autumn were determined and the ratios of total sugar to betaine were analyzed,in order to classify these indexes, and investigate the relationship with the soil fertility factors.MethodsHPLC and UV-spectrophotometry methods were used to determine the contents and the results were analyzed adopting the clustering, correlation, and variance analysis. Results All the indexes were divided into three parts which were total sugar, betaine, and carotenoid.Various indexes were affected in different degrees by the soil fertility factors. Conclusion The contents of total sugar, betaine, carotenoid, and the ratios of total sugar to betaine could be used to assay the quality of L.barbarum fruits reasonably; The accumulation of each ingredient in L.barbarum fruits is affected by the synergistic effects of all the soil fertility factors, not a single role.It would be beneficial to the fertilization and improvement for the quality of L.barbarum.
