ABSTRACT

From November 2015 to January 2016, two patients with multiple maxillofacial fractures were chosen to undergo CT scanning and maxillofacial three-dimensional (3D) imaging reconstruction. The data were input to 3D printer in order to yield rapid prototyping model with the same size of patients′ maxillofacial regions. Simulated fracture surgery and reconstruction of the Ti-palate were performed on the models. The operations were conducted with the guidance of navigation system. The consistency of simulated model and real fractures was compared. The results show the complex maxillofacial fracture could make the operation more accurate and shorten the operation time. Moreover, the facial features and masticatory function of both patients were improved. The 3D printing technique combined with computer-assisted navigation could be applied to complex maxillofacial fractures surgery, in order to improve the surgical accuracy and achieve effective reconstruction.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:To optimize the oral implant design in the abutment angle has an important effect on bone resorption, and meanwhile, the high bite force from patients is also crucial to rebuild bone absorption. OBJECTIVE:To optimize the model design of the maxilary anterior teeth using Ansys Workbench 13.0 software and to investigate the stress size on the cortical and cancelous bone from different angled abutments and different loads of the central incisor. METHODS:A three-dimensional finite element model of the V-shaped cylindrical threaded implants in the maxilary bone. Abutment angle was set as 0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, and the load stress was set as 90, 105, 120, 135, 150, 165, 180, 195, 210 N. Occlusion of the central incisor was simulated on the implants, and then, buccolingual mechanical loads were loaded on the center of prostheses to observe the effects of different abutment angles and loads on the Von Mises peak stress of the maxila and mandible. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Under the influence of a single factor, when the abutment angles acted as variables, the Von Mises peak stress of the cortical and cancelous bone was respectively increased by 60.60% and 69.30% under labial or palatal loads; when the loading stress acted as variables, the Von Mises peak stress of the cortical and cancelous bone was increased by 68.74% and 69.30% under buccolingual loads. When the loading stress was less than 150 N and the abutment angle was less than 25°, the slop of tangent for the mandible Von Mises stress response curve was-1 to 0. It seems from the mechanical analysis that the stress of cancelous bone is more susceptible to abutment angle and load stress; the optimal abutment of screwed implant should be designed to an angle less than 25° and an bite force less than 150 N.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the innate immune response of influenza virus-infected glial cells, the transcription levels in chemokines in mouse microglia and astrocytes were detected which pre-infected by human H1N1 or avian H5N1 influenza viruses. Methods: The glial cells isolated from neonatal mice cerebral cortex were cultured and further microglia and astrocytes were purified. The primary mouse microglia and astrocytes were infected in vitro by H1N1 or H5N1 influenza viruses in a multiplicity of infection (MOI) 2.Eight hours post infection, the influenza virus nucleoprotein (NP) was detected by immunofluorescence to identify the proportion of infected cells. The cellular RNA were extracted at 6 h and 24 h to detect the transcriptional level of chemokines by semi-quantitative RT-PCR.Results: More than 95% of the microgha and astrocytes which isolated from mice were infected. The transcription levels of CCL-3,CCL-5,CXCL-2,CXCL-9 and CXCL-10 from infected microglia and astrocytes were upregulated.Futhermore, the mRNA level of CXCL-10 increased much more.In addition, avian H5N1 influenza virus could induce more stronger upregulation of those chemokines than human H1N1 did. Conclusion: The mouse microglia and astro cytes which are infected by H1N1 influenza virus or H5N1 influenza virus could induce upregulation of transcription level of chemokines.

ABSTRACT

Objective To introduce improved techniques for one-stage operation of penile lengthening and thickening. Methods 8 cases were operated by this kind of procedure which comprised bilateral longitudinal incision of the corpora cavernosa and enlargement of the tunica albuginea using sapheneous grafts. Results All the cases gained satisfactory results without serious complications such as infection, fistula, and hemorrhage. All the cases who have married resumed regular and satisfactory sexual activities after one month without any functional limitation . The penile corpus circumferential measurements after operation immediately and at 12-month follow-up revealed increases of 1-2 cm. Conclusions The introduced technique for one-stage plastic procedure of penis lengthening and thickening indicates for treating micropenis and dysmorphophobia in terms of aesthetics or sexual function need . The new technique is a reliable method for penile augmentation with good configuration, satisfactory function and few complications.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the feasibility of one-stage repair of hypospadias using scrotal septal skin flap based on peri-meatus dartos fascia.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Nine patients were repaired by this method.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All patients achieved good results without urethral fistula or stricture. The angle of the penis to the scrotum is normal.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The flap has reliable blood supply and the flap creation is easy. It is a simple, convenient and effective method for one-stage repair of hypospadias.</p>
