ABSTRACT

@#Abstract: Objective This study aims to explore the prevalence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome (MS) among the adults in Hainan Province, and to provide scientific basis for MS prevention and control. Methods A multi-stage cluster random sampling method was applied to select 3 690 permanent residents aged 18 years and above in Hainan Province. The survey was conducted by trained investigators using household appointments and centralized surveys. A questionnaire survey, physical measurement, and laboratory examination were conducted after the collection of blood samples. The processed samples were then tested by a quality-controlled laboratory. Finally, we analysed the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its relationship with population characteristics and health-related behaviors. Results The crude prevalence of MS in the population aged 18 and above in Hainan province was 19.46% and the standardized prevalence was 13.21%, with a higher rate in urban areas (22.21%) than in rural areas (18.13%). The prevalence of MS increased with age (P<0.001), and there were significant differences in MS prevalence among different marital and occupational statuses (P<0.01). Logistic regression results indicated that the age groups of 40-<50 years (OR=2.986, 95%CI:1.355-6.580), 50-<60 years (OR=3.739, 95%CI: 1.715-8.151), 60-<70 years (OR=3.890, 95%CI: 1.769-8.556), 70 years and above (OR=3.927, 95%CI: 1.758-8.771), technical, transportation and production personnel (OR=1.579, 95%CI: 1.033-2.412), retired (OR=1.788, 95%CI: 1.415-2.259), unemployed (OR=1.503, 95%CI: 1.044-2.165), smoking cessation (OR=1.582, 95%CI: 1.162-2.154), insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables (OR=1.196, 95%CI: 1.005-1.422), and insufficient physical activity (OR=1.437, 95%CI: 1.155-1.787) were all associated with the prevalence of MS. Among the investigated subjects, 30.22% of them had one abnormal component, with hyperglycemia being the highest (54.44%); 24.25% of them had two abnormal components, with "hyperglycemia + hypertension" being the highest (33.30%); and 19.46% had three or more components, with "overweight/obesity + hyperglycemia + hypertension" being the highest (24.79%). Conclusions The prevalence of MS in Hainan Province is on the rise, and effective lifestyle intervention measures are needed to reduce the risk of MS.

ABSTRACT

@#Abstract: Objective To understand the general situation of death causes of permanent residents in Hainan Province from 2014 to 2020, analyze the causes of death, and provide scientific basis for the formulation of policies related to healthy Hainan. Methods The Hainan Provincial Population Death Information Registration and Management System was used to report data, and the death information of permanent residents in Hainan Province from 2014 to 2020 was obtained. Excel 2010 and SPSS 26.0 software were applied to perform statistical analysis related to the indicators including crude mortality rate, standardized mortality rate, ranking of causes of death, and composition ratio; the standardized mortality rate was calculated based on the data of the 2010 National Census Data. Results From 2014 to 2020, the average annual resident population of Hainan Province was 9 175 300, and average annual resident population at each of the eight monitoringp oints is 297 100, anaverage of 83 878 cumulative deaths were reported, the annual total mortality rate was 504.09/100 000, the standard mortality rate was 618.69/100 000. The standardized mortality rates of male and female were 806.18/100 000 and 444.36/100 000 respectively (P<0.01). The mortality rate of all age groups showed that the crude mortality rate of 0~<1 years old group showed a decreasing trend with the passage of time, and the crude mortality rate was significantly higher than that of other age groups. From the age of 20, with the increase of age, the overall crude mortality rate of residents keeps increasing. The crude death rate increases rapidly after the age of 65, and peaks especially after the age of 85. The leading causes of death were circulatory diseases, tumors and respiratory diseases. From 2014 to 2020, the mortality rate of circulatory diseases and tumors, the two main causes of death, was more than 100/100 000. Conclusion Chronic non-communicable diseases are still the first cause of death among permanent residents in Hainan Province. Targeted intervention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases is beneficial to reduce their mortality.

ABSTRACT

@#Microstrabismus is a kind of small angle strabismus, sometimes negative in cover test, accompanied by clinical characteristics such as abnormal retinal correspondence, eccentric fixation, amblyopia and rough stereopsis. Microstrabismus amblyopia treatment is very difficult, especially in eccentric fixation. In daily diagnosis and treatment, the microstrabismus often misdiagnosed due to the small squint degree and the negative coverage test, failed to be treated properly and in-time, the patient's eccentric fixation and fixation instability also been ignored, treated as normal amblyopia, while the result is not effective, sometimes even leads opposite effect, so it's important to recognize the microstrabismus.

ABSTRACT

Aim To explore the main pathways and possible mechanisms of saffron in treatment of depression using network pharmacology. Methods A network of active components of saffron-depression disease target was constructed through the TCM System Pharmacology Database (TCMSP), Genecards, Uniprot database, Cytoscape software, and ClueGo analysis tool, and GO biological process and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis were performed, and molecular docking verification was carried out using Autodock vina software. Results The five main chemical components quercetin, kaempferol, crocealdehyde, crocetin, and isorhamnetin may pass through the IL-17 signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway and Toll-like inflammatory pathways such as receptor signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway, relaxin signaling pathway, Thl7 cell differentiation and other pathways, playing an antidepressant effect. In the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway, the targets of saffron for depression were mainly enriched in multiple targets such as BD-NF, TNF, IL-1, IL-6, MAPK8, JUN, GSK3B, N0S3 and so on. The results of molecular docking verification indicated a good docking effect of saffron and crocetin with the BDNF target in the antidepressant pathway of saffron. Conclusions The mechanism of saffron treatment of depression is mainly reflected in the regulation of neurotrophic factors, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxida-tive stress, etc., providing a theoretical basis for clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Nineteen preschisanartane-type schinortriterpenoids (SNTs), among which eleven ones were previously undescribed, were isolated from two Schisandra species, S. sphaerandra and S. rubriflora. Their structures were determined using 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses, NMR data comparison, quantum chemical calculation of NMR parameters, electronic circular dichroism (ECD), X-ray single crystal diffraction, and chemical derivation. Furthermore, structural re-examination of a few previously reported preschisanartane-type SNTs led to the structural revision of preschisanartanin J. Besides, it is suggested that the reported structures of arisanlactone D and schilancidilactone W should be re-checked. Finally, a few isolated SNTs were found to possess neurite outgrowth-promoting activities, and protective activities against neural injuries.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of sea cucumber cerebroside (SCC) on the lipid metabolism in rats with orotic acid-induced fatty liver.

METHODSThe non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model was established by adding orotic acid to the diets in rats. The rats were randomly assigned to four groups:control group, NAFLD group, NAFLD + low SCC group and NAFLD + high SCC group. After 10 days of feeding, the serum and hepatic lipid concentrations and the aminopherase activities were measured; the composition of hepatic fatty acids was also analyzed.

RESULTThe serum TC and TG levels reduced significantly in the NAFLD group as compared with the controls (P<0.05), while the sea cucumber cereborside feeding raised the serum lipid concentrations (P<0.05). The hepatic TC and TG levels dramatically increased in the NAFLD group in comparison with the controls (P<0.05, P<0.01), while the hepatic lipid accumulations decreased in both SCC groups (P<0.05, P<0.01). The ALT and AST activities in the NAFLD group increased markedly when compared with the controls (P<0.05, P <0.01), while the sea cucumber cerebroside feeding attenuated the hepatic injury levels (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) activity increased significantly in the NAFLD group (P<0.05), but decreased in SCC groups (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSea cucumber cerebroside can attenuate the rat fatty liver induced by orotic acid.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical practice of laparoscopic rectopexy in the treatment of severe rectal prolapse.

METHODSFrom March 1998 to February 2007, 4 cases of complete rectal prolapse, including 1 male and 3 female, ranged 21-82 years old, were treated by laparoscopic rectopexy. In one case, the posterior wall of rectum was freed and elevated, and pre-rectal introcession was closed by silk suture, then the posterior wall was suspended and fixed on sacral promontory fascia, finally the sigmoid colon was fixed by sutures on the fascia of left psoas major. In other three cases, insertion of mesh was performed. Rectum was freed and elevated to the level of levalor ani. A sheet of T-shape polypropylene mesh was placed posterior to the rectum, whose lower margin was at the level of levator ani and wrapped around the rectum covering except the anterior wall. The free margin of the mesh was sutured on the muscular layer of rectum, then the mesh was put posterior to the rectum and fixed on the sacral promontory fascia by clipping to repair hernia. After that, the pelvic peritoneum was closed, and finally the sigmoid colon was fixed by sutures on the fascia of left psoas major.

RESULTSFour operation procedures were completed successfully. There was no conversion operation. The time was consumed 92.5 (80-100) min, and the bleeding amount was 6.5 (5-10) ml. No post-operative complications were found. Urine incontinence and encopresis were relieved. No recurrence and constipation was found after 2 months to 3 years follow up postoperatively.

CONCLUSIONLaparoscopic rectopexy is a safe, workable and effective procedure, which can reduce operative trauma and shorten hospitalization time.
