ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the basic research projects in stomatology funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) in the past 10 years, providing references for the development of Stomatology. Methods:This article collected information on NSFC-funded projects in Stomatology from 2010 to 2019, including title, year, project type, discipline code, funded institutions, keywords, etc., and conducted a multi-dimensional analysis. Results:In the past 10 years, NSFC funded 2 821 projects in the field of Stomatology, with funding of 1 229.44 million yuan, increasing year by year. The funding covered 116 sub-disciplines, with oral cancer and periodontal disease as the key funding areas. The funded institutions and regions were relatively concentrated. The research theme took stem cells and signaling pathways as the core, and multiple fields were gradually cross-integrated.Conclusions:NSFC′s long-term and continuous funding promoted the development of Stomatology, resulting in increasing diversity and convergence of research directions. At the same time, it is suggested that institutions develop policies based on their characteristics, NFSC provides balanced funding for different branches of disciplines, and underdeveloped areas strengthen cooperation and exchange, thereby further improving the overall research level of Stomatology.

ABSTRACT

Objective Through the comparative analysis of the scientific research performance among different dental institutions,to understand the current situation of scientific research development at Peking University School of Stomatology, identify the advantages and disadvantages. Methods Using Scopus and Scival tools, five dental institutes at home and abroad were selected as the target institutions, parallel comparison of the research output, research influence and research development were conducted and analyzed. Results The research output of Peking University School of Stomatology and West China School of Stomatology is absolutely dominant.Peking University School of Stomatology is at a disadvantage in terms of research impact and development indicators such as Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI),Outputs in Top10 % Citation Percentiles,Citation per Publication, and International Collaboration. In the distribution of dentistry, there is a big gap between Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) of different institutions. Conclusions The research strength of Peking University School of Stomatology is weak either in the whole or in the subdivision of dentistry, based on this, further measures and suggestions are put forward to provide reference for scientific development strategies.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the role of piperine on the transformation of endothelial cells into fibroblasts.@*Methods@#Cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs, 4-6 passage) were used for the main experiments. The transformation models of endothelial cells into fibroblasts were induced by transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) stimulation. HUVECs were divided into 6 groups: control group, TGF-β group and 4 groups treated with various concentrations of piperine (1, 5, 10, 20 μmol/L). CKK-8 was used to detect cell proliferation. The CD31/α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression level was detected by fluorescent staining. The vascular endothelial cadherin (VE-cadherin)/vimentin expression was detected by immunofluorescence staining. RT-PCR was used detect the mRNA expressions of transformation markers. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of snail and twist.@*Results@#TGF-β increased HUVECs proliferation (P<0.05), which could be significantly inhibited by 10 and 20 μmol/L of piperine, but not by 1 and 5 μmol/L of piperine. Immunofluorescence results demonstrated that TGF-β increased HUVECs transformation to fibroblasts as shown by downregulated expression of endothelial markers CD31, VE-cadherin, and upregulated expression of α-SMA and vimentin, again, these effects could be attenuated by 10 and 20 μmol/L piperine. The expression levels of collagen type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ were significantly higher in TGF-β group than in control group (P<0.05), significantly lower in TGF-β+10 μmol/L piperine group and TGF-β+20 μmol/L piperine group than in TGF-β group (P<0.05).In addition, RT-PCR results showed that TGF-β increased mRNA expression of transformation markers (snail1, snail2, twist1, twist2), while 10 and 20 μmol/L of piperine could significantly downregulated the mRNA expressions of these markers. The protein expression levels of snail and twist were significantly higher in TGF-β group than in control group (both P<0.05), which was significantly lower in TGF-β+20 μmol/L piperine group than in TGF-β group (both P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#Piperine can inhibit the transformation of endothelial cells into fibroblasts. This effect might be viewed as one of the potential mechanisms of reduced myocardial fibrosis post piperine treatment.

ABSTRACT

Using the research papers of Peking University Third Hospital recorded in SCIE since 2005 to 2014 as data basis, some bibliometric indexes were analyzed, including papers quality, cited times, impact factor, and funded papers. To reveal the current hospital research status and provide reference for policy drafting and subject development planning. In the past ten years, the quantity of paper increased significantly. However, highly impact papers published by Peking University Third Hospital were relatively rare, the cited times per paper in clinical medicine is lower than that of china mainland. It is necessary to improve the quality of research paper.

ABSTRACT

The literature retrieval course is the main form of current domestic medical infor-mation literacy education. But students have no interest in it, so it's difficult to realize the goal of in-formation literacy education. Information literacy education has the same ideas and goals with PBL in developing students' ability to ask questions, analyze and solve problems, as well as in improving students' autonomous learning and life-long learning ability. To study the model of medical information literacy education embedded in PBL from three stages that early course preparation, mid implementa-tion and later evaluation. The research is aimed at the improvement of students' information literacy and their lifelong study ability. It suggests that there are coordinated effects between PBL and informa-tion literacy.

ABSTRACT

The fermentation of ?-mannanase from an alkaliphilic Bacillus sp. has been studied in 16L tank. The optimum ventilation quantity and agitation speed were 1:1 vvm and 500r/min respectively. The fermentation cycle was 40 h and the highest ?- mannanase activity was 300 u/ml.
