ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to explore traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) professor Niu Jianzhao's medication rule in prescription with climacteric syndrome.Prescriptions treating climacteric syndrome that built by professor Niu were collected to build a database based on TCM Inheritance Assist System. The method of association rules with apriori algorithm was used to achieve frequency of single medicine, nature, taste and channel tropism of herbs, frequency of drug combination, association rules between herbs and core herb combinations. The data mining results showed 22 types of herbs used with high frequency,28 pairs of herb combination with most frequency,20 groups of herb association rules with the confidence of more than 0.95,52 herb pairs with high association,32 groups of three herbs as the core combinations, and 7 new prescriptions. It was concluded that in professor Niu Jianzhao's treatment of climacteric syndrome, the drugs were commonly used to invigorate the kidney, liver and spleen, and in combination with promoting blood circulation and calming the nerves. The medicinal properties of used herbs were even, warm or slightly cold. The tastes of used herbs were sweet, bitter and spicy. The channel tropisms of used herbs were the liver, kidney and lung meridian. This study highlighted data mining as an important tool for expedited analysis of TCM professor Niu Jianzhao's medication rules in prescriptions with climacteric syndrome.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the effect of crocin on the progression and generalized seizure of temporal lobe epilepsy in mice.Hippocampus rapid kindling model was established in C57BL/6J mice. The effects of crocin on seizure stage, afterdischarge duration (ADD), number of stimulation in each stage and final state, the incidence of generalized seizure (GS), average seizure stage and ADD were observed.Crocin (20 mg/kg) significantly retarded behavioral seizure stages (<0.05) and shortened cumulative ADD (<0.01) during hippocampus rapid kindling acquisition in mice compared with vehicle group. Meanwhile, number of stimulations in stage 1-2 was significantly increased (<0.05) and the incidence of fully kindled animals was significantly decreased (<0.01). However, 10 or 50 mg/kg crocin showed no significant effect on the above indexes (all>0.05). Crocin (100 or 200 mg/kg) significantly decreased the incidence of GS (all<0.01) and reduced average seizure stages (all<0.01) in fully-kindled mice compared with vehicle group; Fifty mg/kg crocin only reduced average seizure stages (<0.05).Low-dose crocin can retard the progression in hippocampus rapid kindling acquisition in mice, while high-dose crocin relieves the GS in fully-kindled mice, which suggests that crocin may be a potential anti-epileptic compound.

ABSTRACT

Apoptosis and necrosis are two forms of liver diseases at cell level. Research on hepatocyte apoptosis will become the important topic for treatment of liver disease and understanding of regeneration after liver transplantation. In this study, we analyzed the correlation between endoplasmic reticulum stress and cell apoptosis from effect and function of endoplasmic reticulum stress, influence of endoplasmic reticulum stress on cell apoptosis and association between hepatocyte apoptosis and related disease. Endoplasmic reticulum stress is a self-protection mechanism for cells, but too much endoplasmic reticulum stress will harm cells even cause apoptosis. It is still unclear about the relationship of the endoplasmic reticulum stress and hepatocyte apoptosis, so we need further researches. The progress of studies about the relations between hepatocyte diseases and endoplasmic reticulum stress will improve treatments of liver diseases.
