ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the diagnostic value of non-enhanced lesions on enhanced CT in lung consolidation for necrotizing pneumonia in children. Methods:A total of 101 cases of necrotizing pneumonia with air sacs on CT scan who were hospitalized in the Department of Respiratory Intervention, Qilu Children′s Hospital of Shandong University from August 2016 to September 2018 were enrolled in this study(group with air lucency). Besides, another 75 cases of lobar pneumonia with non-enhanced lesions in lung consolidation but without air sacs on enhanced CT were also included from the same hospital over the same period(group without air lucency). Clinical data of these patients were retrospectively collected and statistically analyzed. Results:The white blood cell count was (12.5±5.5)×10 9/L in group with air sacs and (10.8±4.1)×10 9/L in group without air sacs, and the difference was statistically significant( t=-2.161, P=0.032). There was no statistical difference between the group with and without air sacs in age, gender distribution, the course prior to admission, duration of fever after admission, length of hospital stay, medical expense, the neutrophils percentage in peripheral blood, C-reactive protein, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serum procalcitonin, serum D-Dimer, serum lactate dehydrogenase, serum albumin, bronchoscopy times, the bronchial mucosal erosion ratio, the mucus plug score, the lavage purulent lavage ratio, and the ratio of luminal stricture or atresia in late bronchoscopy(all P>0.05). Conclusions:The clinical course of patients with non-enhanced lesions in lung consolidation but without air sacs is almost identical to that of patients with air sacs on CT scan. The presence of non-enhanced lesions in lung consolidation can be used as diagnostic basis of necrotizing pneumonia in children.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo explore the genetic cause for two children with omphalocele.

METHODSThe patients were examined, and the medical history of their families was collected. Methylation-specific multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MS-MLPA) was performed to detect potential mutation in the patients.

RESULTSLoss of methylation of imprinting center 2 (IC2) at the 11p15.5 region of the maternal chromosome was detected in both children.

CONCLUSIONThe two patients were diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome by MS-MLPA. The loss of methylation of IC2 probably underlies the disease in both patients.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To explore the effect of intensive pedaling training on lower limbs recovery from hemiplegia. Methods 60 hemiplegics after stroke were divided into treatment group (n=30) and control group (n=30). Both groups accepted routine rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture and electrical stimulation, while the treatment group accepted intensive pedaling training in addition. They were evaluated with Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Fugl-Meyer Assessment of lower limb (FMA-L), modified Barthel index (MBI), Functional Ambulation Category (FAC), modified Ashworth scale (MAS) before and after 8 weeks of treatment. Results The scores of BBS, FMA-L, MBI, FAC, and MAS improved in both groups after treatment (P<0.01), and improved more in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Intensive pedaling training can further improve the lower limbs function of stroke patients with hemiplegia

ABSTRACT

Aim To study IL-8 expression of human airway epithelium-like NCI-H292 cells directly induced by Pyocyanin and its mechanism through protein kinase C(PKC) and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-??).Methods ELISA methods were performed to test the expression of IL-8 in NCI-H292 cells infected by Pyocyanin.Western blot was employed to examine the expression of NF-?B protein. In addition,NCI-H292 cells were cultured together with PKC inhibitor, calphostin C or NF-?? inhibitor, pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(PDTC),respectively before Pyocyanin infection, then the expression of IL-8 and NF-?? was assayed using the above methods. Results Pyocyanin was able to induce IL-8 protein secretion in NCI-H292 cells and had marked concentration-dependent relations.Pyocyanin could also significantly promote the activation of NF-?B,which peaked at 60~90 min.PDTC and calphostin C could significantly decrease the activation of NF-?? and the expression of IL-8.Conclutions Pyocyanin can induce IL-8 production. The direct induction of Pyocyanin can promote the activation of NF-?B by PKC signal pathway, then cause the expression and secretion of IL-8.
