ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the efficacy of modified electrical superficial surround acupuncture in treating postherpetic neuralgia. Method One hundred and eighty-six patients with postherpetic neuralgia were randomly allocated to electrical acupuncture, superficial acupuncture and electrical superficial acupuncture groups, 62 cases each. All the three groups were given acupuncture at ashi points around the painful region. The electrical acupuncture group received electroacupuncture alone. The superficial acupuncture group received sweeping-dispersing manipulation and following 24-hour retention of the soft tube. The electrical superficial acupuncture group received sweeping-dispersing manipulation based on modified superficial acupuncture and following electroacupuncture, without retention of the soft tube after the completion of treatment. The therapeutic effects were evaluated and compared after one course of treatment. Result There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the VAS score in the three groups (P0.05). The evaluation of the therapeutic effects according to WHO pain rating showed that the marked efficacy rate and the total efficacy rate were 45.2% and 82.3%, respectively, in the electrical acupuncture group, 52.3% and 88.7%, respectively, in the superficial acupuncture group and 62.9% and 91.9%, respectively, in the electrical superficial acupuncture group. There was no statistically significant difference in the total efficacy rate between the three groups (P>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the marked efficacy rate between the electrical acupuncture and electrical superficial acupuncture groups (P0.05) and between the superficial acupuncture and electrical superficial acupuncture groups(P>0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of electrical superficial acupuncture is better than that of superficial acupuncture and electrical acupuncture. Electrical superficial acupuncture is characterized by selection of few points, small number of treatments and meanwhile, avoidance of potential medical risks.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study calcium chelator BAPTA-AM antagonize the cellular oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide ( H2 O2 ) and to explore the effect of calcium ion on the cell degeneration mediated by NLRP3.Methods The SHSY5Y cell model of oxidative stress was made by hydrogen perox-ide,then the cell model was treated with calcium ion carrier A23187 or BAPTA-AM,a higher efficiency cal-cium chelating agent.The cells were divided into 4 groups:H2O2 treatment group,H2O2+A23187 group, H2 O2+A23187 +BAPTA-AM group and control group.NLRP3 protein was detected by Western blot,and Caspase-1 and IL-1βwere detected by ELISA.Results NLRP3 expression was significantly increased in cells treated by hydrogen peroxide(P<0.05) .The NLRP3 protein continued to increase, and the expression of Caspase-1((57.1±19.2)pmol/L) and IL-1β((484.2±49.5)pg/ml) protein was also increased signifi-cantly in cells treated by A23187,and the difference had statistically significant for caspase-1 or IL-1βin H2O2+A23187 group compared with those in control group(Caspase-1:(26.8±12.9)pmol/L,IL-1β:(326.9 ±52.1) pg/ml) (P<0.05, P<0.01) .NLRP3,Caspase-1 and IL-1βwere all significantly reduced after adding a high-er efficiency calcium chelating agent BAPTA-AM.Conclusion Calcium overload is likely to enhance the oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide and engender neurodegeneration mediated by NLRP3 inflammasome.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the relationship between p16,p27 proteins and clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer and their prognostic value.Methods p16 protein and p27 protein were detected by two step immunohistochemical method in 93 tissues of breast cancer.Results The positive rates of p16 protein and p27 protein were 46.2 % (43/93) and 54.8 % (51/93).The positive rate of p16 protein in different tumor location (left/right),the maximal diameter and histological type had no statistically significant difference (all P > 0.05),but in the different age groups and axillary lymph node metastasis,the differences were statistically significant (both P < 0.05).The positive rate of p27 protein in different age groups,tumor location (left/right) and the maximal diameter had no significant difference (all P > 0.05),but was correlated with the infiltration and axillary lymph node metastasis (both P < 0.05).Conclusions The negative expression of p16 and p27 is significantly related with the biological behaviors of breast cancer.Detection of both p16 protein and p27 protein may play an important role in predicting the prognosis of breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of heat shock protein 5 (HSPA5) in breast carcinoma and to study its relationship with clinical and pathological factors.Methods HSPA5 from 97 cases of breast carcinoma and 40 cases of adjacent tissues of breast carcinoma were examined by immunohistochemical method.Results The overall positive rate of HSPA5 in 97 cases of breast cancer was 81.4 % (79/97).The positive rates of HSPA5 in cancer tissues and paired normal tissues were 32.5 % (13/40) and 7.5 % (3/40),respectively.The expression rate of HSPA5 in tumor tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues (x2 =7.813,P =0.038).The expression of HSPA5 in breast carcinoma was correlated with histologic grade and lymph node metastasis (x2 =22.233,P =0.007; x2 =5.342,P =0.024).Conclusion The occurrence of breast carcinoma and the formation of invasion may be related with overexperssion of HSPA5.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of MUC-1 and CD44v6 in breast carcinoma and its diagnostic value.Methods 93 cases of breast carcinoma were examined by immunohistochemical method for MUC-1 and CD44v6.Results The positive rates of MUC-1 and CD44v6 were 71.0 % (66/93) and 63.4 % (59/93),respectively.The expression of MUC-1 in breast carcinoma was correlated with histologic differentiation (14.3 %,69.4 %,100.0 %) and lymph node metastasis (22.9 %,100.0 %) (x2 =36.147,63.047,both P < 0.0001),but had no relationship with the type of breast carcinoma,tumor clinical stages,and tumor size (all P > 0.05).The expression of CD44v6 in breast carcinoma was correlated with tumor clinical stages (6.3 %,64.6 %,93.1%) and lymphnode metastasis (20.0 %,89.7 %) (x2 =9.507,45.662,both P<0.05),but had no relationship with tumor type,tumor clinical stages and tumor size (all P > 0.05).Conclusion MUC-1 and CD44v6 may play important roles in the development of breast carcinoma and the biologic behavior of breast carcinoma may be closely related with over expression of MUC-1 and CD44v6 protein.MUC-1 and CD44v6 can be used to predict the prognosis and direct the treatment of breast carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To establish the quality standard for Guanxin Qiwei Tablet. [Methods] Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae, Rhizoma Kaempferiae and Fructus Choerospondiatis in Guanxin Qiwei Tablet were identified by TLC. TanshinoneⅡA content was determined by HPLC.[Results] Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae, Rhizoma Kaempferiae and Fructus Choerospondiatis can be identified by TLC, the spot being clear without the interference of negative control. A good linearity was in the range of 0.022-0.154 ?g, the average recovery of tanshinone ⅡA was 97.9%, and RSD was 1.22%. [Conclusion] This method is simple and can be used to evaluate the quality of Guanxin Qiwei Tablet.

ABSTRACT

Objective To establish a method of determining effective components in Tangzhiqing Capsule.Methods Gin- seng saponin Rg_1,Rb_1,Re and notoginseng saponin R_1 in the capsule were separated and purified by D_(101)macroporous absorption resin,and then determined by HPLC.Results The linearity arrange of ginseng saponin Rg_1,Re,Rb_1 and no- toginseng saponin R_1 were 1.88~11.28?g,1.76~10.56?g,0.294~1.764?g,0.752~2.256?g and the recov- eries were 101.51%(RSD=0.75%),100.58%(RSD=0.46%),100.29%(RSD=1.01%),98.64% (RSD = 0.73%)respectively.Conclusion The method is simple,feasible and reproducible,and can be used for the determination of effective components in Tangzhiqing Capsule.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effects of Wenshen Kechuan Tablets in relieving cough and asthma, and to make a preliminary investigation of its therapeutic mechanism. Methods The actions of relieving cough and asthma were studied with the cough model induced by ammonia water, asthma model induced by histamine- acetylcholine, asthma model induced by ovalbumin. In addition, the phenolsulfonphthalein excretion and lung overfall were measured. The therapeutic mechanism of Wenshen Kechuan Tablets was studied with the kidney- yang- insufficiency model induced by cortisol and the model of emasculated male mice. Results Wenshen Kechuan Tablets could significantly prolong the cough latent period and cough times within 3 min and increase phenol red secretion from trachea in cough model induced by ammonia water. Wenshen Kechuan Tablets could significantly prolong the asthma latent period and relieve spasm in guinea pigs with histamine- acetylcholine- induced asthma, prolong spasm latent period and reduce shock attack and lung overfall volume in guinea pigs with ovalbumin- induced asthma. Wenshen Kechuan Tablets had a protective effect on whole behavior and body weight increase in model mouse of insufficiency of kidney- yang, and show some androgen- like biological activity in emasculated male mice. Conclusion Wenshen Kechuan Tablets have obvious actions of relieving cough and asthma, the effects may be achieved by warming kidney- yang or by androgen- like biological activity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of Weichangshu Capsule (WCSC) in inhibiting experimental gastric ulcer and the damage of gastric mucosa in SD rats. Methods The experimental gastric ulcer rat models were established by ligation of pylorus, water immersing method and subcutaneous injection of indometacin, and rat models with acute damage of gastric mucosa were induced by hydrochloric acid- ethanol (HAE).Then the effect of WCSC in inhibiting experimental gastric ulcer and the damage of gastric mucosa in SD rats were observed. Results WCSC had obviously inhibitory effects on stress gastric ulcer, indometacin- induced gastric ulcer and HAE- induced acute damage of gastric mucosa. WCSC also inhibited the secretion of gastric juice and increased pepsase activity. Conclusion WCSC has counteraction on experimental gastric ulcer.
