ABSTRACT

In this study, 30 cases with maxillary sinus cyst were evaluated clinically, radiologically and by maxillary sinus endoscopy. The majority of the cases [19 cases] were asymptomatic and discovered only during radiologic examination for other dental or ENT problems, associated rhinosinus infection account for the symptomatic cases [11 cases]. Paranasal sinus plain X-ray in different views, clearly showed the opacity of cyst as a dome-shaped homogenous density with convex upper border without bone destruction or displacement. Orthopantomogram view, in addition, accurately showed the cyst floor and its relation to the roots of the teeth. Sinuscopy, especially through the inferior meatal approach, directly visualize the cyst as regard its site, size, content and the condition of the surrounding mucosa. In addition, impairment of the sinus drainage by cyst can be accurately assessed and managed endoscopically

ABSTRACT

The role of the different surgical procedures for the elimination of obstructive sleep breathing was evaluated and compared in 215 patients complaining of snoring. All cases requiring medical, dietetic or physical measures for elimination of snoring were excluded from the start. The studied cases were subjected to full history taking, medical and ENT examination, endoscopic and radiological examination, tape recording anad grading of snoring. Surgical treatment was designed to correct the underlying cause of upper airway obstruction producing snoring. Follow up of operated cases was done at weeks and months intervals of about one year. Following surgery, 95% of cases got complete relief of snoring and 82% were relieved from disturbed sleep. The results clearly prove that snoring is amenable to surgical therapy provided that proper assessment and selection of the cases is followed

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on 50 patients with chronic suppurative otitis media. They were treated with 0.5% copper sulphate together with 0.1% dexamethasone sulphate, used as ear drops on a wick placed in the external canal. The wick was removed and changed every day for 2 weeks. Aural swab was taken before and after treatment to isolate and identify the causative organisms and the response of copper therapy. Clinical and bacteriological improvement was found in most of the cases; 36 ears [27%] were dry and sterile, 32 of them were of the safe type and 4 were unsafe. Cases with post mastoidectomy infection showed no clinical or bacteriological improvement. Irritation and severe congestion occurred in 2 cases [4%] and rapidly cured by increasing the concentration of cortisone up to 0.5%
