ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer in women and a proportion of patients experiences brain metastases with poor prognosis. The study aimed to construct a novel predictive clinical model to evaluate the overall survival (OS) of patients with postoperative brain metastasis of breast cancer (BCBM) and validate its effectiveness.@*METHODS@#From 2010 to 2020, a total of 310 female patients with BCBM were diagnosed in The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, and they were randomly assigned to the training cohort and the validation cohort. Data of another 173 BCBM patients were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database as an external validation cohort. In the training cohort, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression model was used to determine the fundamental clinical predictive indicators and the nomogram was constructed to predict OS. The model capability was assessed using receiver operating characteristic, C-index, and calibration curves. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed to evaluate clinical effectiveness of the risk stratification system in the model. The accuracy and prediction capability of the model were verified using the validation and SEER cohorts.@*RESULTS@#LASSO Cox regression analysis revealed that lymph node metastasis, molecular subtype, tumor size, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and lung metastasis were statistically significantly correlated with BCBM. The C-indexes of the survival nomogram in the training, validation, and SEER cohorts were 0.714, 0.710, and 0.670, respectively, which showed good prediction capability. The calibration curves demonstrated that the nomogram had great forecast precision, and a dynamic diagram was drawn to increase the maneuverability of the results. The Risk Stratification System showed that the OS of low-risk patients was considerably better than that of high-risk patients ( P < 0.001).@*CONCLUSION@#The nomogram prediction model constructed in this study has a good predictive value, which can effectively evaluate the survival rate of patients with postoperative BCBM.

ABSTRACT

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in cancer metastasis. Exploring metastasis-associated lncRNAs and developing effective strategy for targeted regulation of lncRNA function in vivo are of utmost importance for the treatment of metastatic cancer, which however remains a big challenge. Herein, we identified a new functional lncRNA (denoted lncBCMA), which could stabilize the expression of eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1A1 (eEF1A1) via antagonizing its ubiquitination to promote triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) growth and metastasis. Based on this regulatory mechanism, an endosomal pH-responsive nanoparticle (NP) platform was engineered for systemic lncBCMA siRNA (siBCMA) delivery. This NPs-mediated siBCMA delivery could effectively silence lncBCMA expression and promote eEF1A1 ubiquitination, thereby leading to a significant inhibition of TNBC tumor growth and metastasis. These findings show that lncBCMA could be used as a potential biomarker to predict the prognosis of TNBC patients and NPs-mediated lncBCMA silencing could be an effective strategy for metastatic TNBC treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and related factors of lamb′s tripe extract and vitamin B12 capsule (LTEVB12) in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis. Methods:From October 1st 2016 to April 30th 2021, 240 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis visited the Department of Gastroenterology at Xijing Hospital, Air Force Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. All patients regularly took LTEVB12 (110 U/day, 3 times/day) for six months. At the end of treatment, endoscopy and gastric mucosal biopsy were conducted. The therapeutic effects were evaluated by comparing the changes of operative link on gastritis assessment (OLGA) and operative link on gastritis assessment based on intestinal metaplasia (OLGIM) staging before and after treatment. The related factors affecting the efficacy of the drug were analyzed. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used for statistical analysis. Results:After half a year of treatment, the reversal efficiency of atrophy and intestinal metaplasia was 45.4% (109/240) and 37.9% (91/240), respectively, and the total efficiency was 62.9% (151/240). The reversal efficiency of OLGA and OLGIM staging reversed from high stage (stage Ⅲ to Ⅳ) to low stage (stage 0 to Ⅱ) was 53.4% (63/118) and 54.5% (36/66), respectively. The results of multivariate analysis showed that female, vitamin supplementation (≥3 times/week), negative or successful eradication of Helicobacter pylori and mild inflammatory status (inflammation score: 1 to 2) were associated with improving the efficacy of LTEVB12 (odds ratio=1.798, 3.730, 2.817 and 4.631, 95% confidence interval 1.055 to 3.064, 1.197 to 11.627, 1.171 to 6.779, 1.480 to 14.493; all P<0.05). High consumption of pickled food (≥3 times/week) was associated with reducing efficacy of LTEVB12 (odds ratio=0.384, 95%confidence interval 0.200 to 0.740). Conclusion:LTEVB12 has better reversal therapeutic effect on atrophy and intestinal metaplasia, and may reduce the risk of gastric cancer in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the difference of psychosocial characteristics in patients with chronic gastritis. Methods:From June to December 2018, a total of 300 patients with chronic gastritis visited Xijing Hospital were consecutively enrolled. The patients were divided into chronic non-atrophic gastritis (CNAG) group, chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) group and CAG with intestinal metaplasia group, with 100 cases in each group. Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA), Hamilton depression scale (HAMD), living events scale (LES) and Eysenck personality questionnaire (EPQ) were used for evaluation and analysis. Chi square test, analysis of variance, nonparametric rank sum test and Kruskal Wallis H test were used for statistical analysis. Results:The incidences of anxiety of the CAG group and the CAG with intestinal metaplasia group were both significantly higher than that of the CNAG group (64.0%, 64/100; 53.0%, 53/100; and 34.0%, 34/100; respectively), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=0.007 and 0.001, both P<0.05). The incidence of depression of the CAG with intestinal metaplasia group was significantly higher than those of CNAG group and the CAG group (24.0%, 24/100; 15.0%, 15/100 and 13.0%, 13/100; respectively), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=0.108 and 0.045, both P<0.05). The negative event score of LES of CAG with intestinal metaplasia group was higher than those of CNAG group and CAG group (0 (0, 6.75), 0 (0, 1.00), 0 (0, 0.75) respectively), and the differences were statistically significant ( Z=-2.619 and -3.022, both P<0.05). The proportion of patients with LES score ≥20 points (high mental stress) of CNAG group, CAG group and CAG with intestinal metaplasia group gradually increased (8.0%, 8/100; 9.0%, 9/100 and 18.0%, 18/100; respectively), and the difference was statistically significant ( χ2=0.036, P<0.05). In male patients and patients under 50 years old, the incidence of depression and the proportions of patients with LES score ≥20 points of CAG with intestinal metaplasia group were higher than those of CNAG group (22.5%, 9/40 vs. 9.6%, 5/52; 47.5%, 19/40 vs. 16.2%, 11/68; 22.5%, 9/40 vs. 7.7%, 4/52; and 20.0%, 8/40 vs. 4.4%, 3/68), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=0.015, 0.001, 0.043 and 0.013, all P<0.05). The results of EPQ showed that the psychoticism, extraversion or introversion, stability and concealment of CNAG group and CAG with intestinal metaplasia group, were mostly normal (43.3 to 56.7), accounting for 62.0% (62/100) and 45.0% (45/100), 56.0% (56/100) and 44.0% (44/100), 54.0% (54/100) and 44.0% (44/100), 59.0% (59/100) and 45.0% (45/100), respectively. The percentage of patients with high score (>56.7) of etraversion or introversion and concealment in CAG group and the CAG with intestinal metaplasia group were higher than those in the CNAG group (48.0%, 48/100; 23.0%, 23/100; 4.0%, 4/100 and 46.0%, 46/100; 21.0%, 21/100 and 7.0%, 7/100, respectively), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ2=0.001, 0.001, 0.001 and 0.004, all P<0.01). Conclusions:Anxiety is associated with CAG and intestinal metaplasia, while depression is associated with intestinal metaplasia. In male patients and patients under 50 years old, depression, negative event and high psychiatric stress are more significantly related to intestinal metaplasia. The mental characteristics of extroversion, emotional instability, psychoticism and concealment are closely associated with CAG.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a remarkably systemic heterogeneous connective tissue disease with many organs involved. The heart is one of the major organs involved, carrying the threat of sudden cardiac death, especially in diffuse cutaneous SSc. This review summarizes the pathophysiology, types, new diagnostic approaches, and imaging and novel therapies of primary cardiac complications while underlining the effects of recently developed non-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in early diagnosis.@*DATA SOURCES@#Medline and Embase were searched for articles published up to July 2019. A combination of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords pertaining to SSc ("Scleroderma, Systemic" OR "Systemic sclerosis" OR' SSc"), AND cardiology ("cardiology" OR "heart" OR "cardiac") were applied to the search strategies.@*STUDY SELECTION@#Literature was mainly printed in English and Chinese about cardiac complications in systemic sclerosis. After selected simply on the title and abstract, the articles were included for the full text. Article type was not limited.@*RESULTS@#Relevant cardiac manifestations are complex, including arrhythmias, pericardial effusion, myocardial dysfunction, and valvular diseases. Even though the symptoms of cardiac complications are well known, unfortunately, they appear to be poor prognostic factors. As systemic sclerosis with cardiac complications has a high mortality rate and patients might have a poor quality of life, it is essential to promote early diagnosis and treatment. With the advent of non-invasive imaging techniques, such as CMR, early diagnosis of cardiac complications in SSc is becoming more effective.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Cardiac complications play an essential role in SSc and carry the threat of sudden cardiac death. More basic and clinical studies are warranted to develop better management of cardiac involvement in patients with SSc.

ABSTRACT

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disease and its involvement area in colon is influenced by a complex network of gene interactions. We analyzed the weighted gene co-expression networks in microarray dataset from colonic mucosa of patients with UC and identified one gene co-expression module that was highly associated with the progression of involved area in UC colon (Pearson coefficient=0.81,P<0.0001).In total,523 hub genes in this module were found to be involved in immune system process after enrichment analysis in Gene Ontology.By the STRING and Cytoscape analysis,we observed that interleukin-8 (IL-8) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) were centered in the network of hub genes. We then detected the expression of IL-8 and MMP-9 in mucosa from left-sided colon of patients using quantitative PCR and immunofluorescence assay respectively. Both quantitative PCR and immunofluorescence assay revealed the expression levels of IL-8 and MMP-9 were significantly different among the healthy controls,left-sided colitis group and pancolitis group (P<0.05).IL-8 and MMP-9 were detected with an enhanced expression in pancolitis as compared with left-sided colitis and healthy controls, respectively (P<0.05).This study demonstrates that immune system process is indispensable in the progression of disease in colon, and identifies that IL-8 and MMP-9 play potential critical roles for the progression.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the current status of secondary prevention medication usage and their relation with on-treatment platelet reactivity in patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome(ACS) treated with aspirin and clopidogrel. Methods A total of 176 patients hospitalized from 2014 to 2015 due to ACS in the Department of Cardiology, Peking University People's Hospital were enrolled and on-treatment platelet reactivity was tested by thromboelastography(TEG)and CYP2C19*2,*3 and*17 alleles were analysed. Details of secondary prevention medication and patients' clinical characteristics were recorded. The relation of secondary prevention medication and on-treatment platelet reactivity was analyzed by multi-logistic regression after adjusting for CYP2C19 alleles and clinical characteristics covariates. Results A 94.89% of patients was treated with statins while 80.68% with beta blocker. The platelet inhibition rate were (45.33±28.78)% and the high on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) rate tested by TEG was 37.50%. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, usage of β-blockers during hospitalization as well as phenotypes of CYP2C19*2,*3 and *17,clinical presentation with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and the length of stents were associated with HTPR defi ned by TEG. The percentage of HTPR rate was signifi cantly lower in patients treated with than those without β-blockers (72.73% vs. 85.45%,OR 0.18,95%CI 0.06-0.53,P=0.002)after adjusting genetic factors and other covariates. Conclusions There was a signifi cant correlation between beta blockers usage and high clopidogrel on-treatment platelet reactivity.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To explore the expression of long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) HOTAIR, enhancer of Zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and their relationship between HOTAIR and prognosis. METHODS We examined the expression of HOTAIR, EZH2 and VEGF in NPC tissues, and analyzed the clinical significance of HOTAIR expression in patients with NPC. RESULTS We found that the expression of HOTAIR, EZH2 and VEGF in the NPC tissues were significantly higher than those in the chronic nasopharyngitis tissues in the gene and protein levels (U=955,P<0.05). The HOTAIR was positively correlated with VEGF (r=0.599,P<0.001), VEGF was positively correlated with EZH2 (r=0.369, P=0.012), and HOTAIR had no significant correlation with EZH2 (r=0.139,P=0.357). Moreover, HOTAIR expression levels increased with clinical stage progression. CONCLUSION The expression of HOTAIR, EZH2 and VEGF were significantly increased in the NPC tissues, and the expression of HOTAIR was related with the TNM stage, the clinical stage and the short term therapeutic effect of the NPC patients, which indicated that the HOTAIR might be used as a biological indicator to determine the prognosis of the NPC.

ABSTRACT

Gram-negative pathogen-induced nosocomial infections and resistance are a most serious menace to global public health. Qingfei Xiaoyan Wan (QF), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has been used clinically in China for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections, acute or chronic bronchitis and pulmonary infection. In this study, the effects of QF on Pseudomonas aeruginosa-induced acute pneumonia in mice were evaluated. The mechanisms by which four typical anti-inflammatory ingredients from QF, arctigenin (ATG), cholic acid (CLA), chlorogenic acid (CGA) and sinapic acid (SPA), regulate anti-inflammatory signaling pathways and related targets were investigated using molecular biology and molecular docking techniques. The results showed that pretreatment with QF significantly inhibits the release of cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6) and chemokines (IL-8 and RANTES), reduces leukocytes recruitment into inflamed tissues and ameliorates pulmonary edema and necrosis. In addition, ATG was identified as the primary anti-inflammatory agent with action on the PI3K/AKT and Ras/MAPK pathways. CLA and CGA enhanced the actions of ATG and exhibited synergistic NF-κB inactivation effects possibly via the Ras/MAPK signaling pathway. Moreover, CLA is speculated to target FGFR and MEK firstly. Overall, QF regulated the PI3K/AKT and Ras/MAPK pathways to inhibit pathogenic bacterial infections effectively.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of skull acupuncture on cerebral infarct volume and plasma SOD activity and MDA and NO contents. Method Forty-eight male SPF-grade SD rats were randomized into sham operation, model and skull acupuncture groups. A rat model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was made by intraluminal thread occlusion. Rat nerve function was assessed by Zea Longa neurological function scoring. Rat cerebral infarct volume was measured by TTC staining. Plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) contents were measured by colorimetry. Result Rat neurobehavioral score was significantly lower on day 1, 3 and 7 in the model group than in the sham operation group (P<0.01). TTC measurement showed that cerebral infarct volume was significantly smaller in the skull acupuncture group than in the model group (P<0.01). Plasma SOD activity was lower and MDA and NO contents were higher in the model group than in the sham operation group (all P<0.01). Plasma SOD activity increased and MDA and NO contents decreased after skull acupuncture treatment compared with the model group (all P<0.01). Conclusion Skull acupuncture has a protective effect against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and can increase plasma SOD activity and decrease plasma MDA and NO contents in rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>To investigate the contributions of CYP2C19 polymorphisms to the various clopidogrel responses tested by thrombelastography (TEG) in Chinese patients with the acute coronary syndrome (ACS).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Patients were screened prospectively with ACS diagnose and were treated with clopidogrel and aspirin dual antiplatelet therapy. CYP2C19 loss of function (LOF) and gain of function (GOF) genotype, adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP)-channel platelet inhibition rate (PIR) tested by TEG and the occurrence of 3-month major adverse cardiovascular events and ischemic events were assessed in 116 patients.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>High on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) prevalence defined by PIR <30% by TEG in ADP-channel was 32.76% (38/116). With respect to the normal wild type, CYP2C19*2, and *3 LOF alleles, and *17 GOF alleles, patients were classified into three metabolism phenotypes: 41.38% were extensive metabolizers (EMs), 56.90% were intermediate metabolizers (IMs), and 1.72% were poor metabolizers (PMs). Of the enrolled patients, 31.47%, 5.17%, and 0.43%, respectively, were carriers of *2, *3, and *17 alleles. The HTPR incidence differed significantly according to CYP2C19 genotypes, accounting for 18.75%, 41.54%, and 100.00% in EMs, IMs, and PMs, respectively. Eighteen (17.24%) ischemic events occurred during the 3-month follow-up, and there was a significant difference in ischemic events between HTPR group and nonhigh on-treatment platelet reactivity group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Genetic CYP2C19 polymorphisms are relative to the inferior, the antiplatelet activity after clopidogrel admission and may increase the incidence of ischemic events in patients with ACS.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of Mangiferae Indicae Semen (MIS) and to screen its bioactive components on nuclear factor-κappa B (NF-κB) inhibition. Methods: The anti-inflammatory effects of MIS were assessed in the swelling of mouse ear induced by dimethylbenzene and the HEK293 inflammatory models induced by TNF-α. UPLC-Q/TOF MS coupled with NF-κB activity luciferase reporter assay system was applied to detect the potential anti-inflammatory components in MIS extract. Results: MIS extract could ameliorate the edema in swelling of mouse ear induced by dimethylbenzene. Ten components were screened to have the potential NF-κB inhibitory effects based on the bioactivity-integrated UPLC-Q/TOF assay system. MIS could contribute to the alleviation of inflammation in the swelling of mouse ear and inhibit the expression of NF-κB. Ten potential active ingredients were found to have anti-inflammatory effects as NF-κB inhibitors, which were mangiferin and gallotannins. The gallotannins included gallic acid, 1-galloyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-galactopyranoside, 1-galloyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl- (l→6)-β-D-galactopyranoside, 1,2,3-tri-O-galloyl-β-D-glucose, 1,2,3,4-tetragalloyl-β-D-glucose, 1,2,3,4,6-pentagalloylglucose, and hexagalloylglucose. Conclusion: Mangiferin and gallotannins are verified to be the main bioactive compounds in MIS.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore clinical manifestations, endoscopic and pathologic characteristics, and treatment of gastrointestinal carcinoids, thus improving diagnosis and treatment. Methods The clinical data of a total of 79 cases of gastrointestinal carcinoids discovered via endoscopy and diagnosed pathologically in General Hospital of People's Liberation Army from January 2007 to March 2011 were retrospectively analyzed, including clinical features, appearance in endoscopy, pathological diagnosis, treatment, occurrence of metastasis of the carcinoid, and treatment effects. Furthermore, a review of literature was conducted. Results Among the 79 patients with gastrointestinal carcinoids, those with stomach carcinoids accounted for 12.7% (10/79), duodenal carcinoids 11.4% (9/79), carcinoids of the sigmoid colon 1.3% (1/79), and rectal carcinoid 74.6% (59/79). There were no typical clinical manifestations in all of the 79 patients. Endoscopic findings were primarily polypoid or submucosal tumor. Up to 31 cases were diagnosed through pathological examination of biopsy specimens, whereas 48 cases were diagnosed after operative treatment. Immunohistochemistry was conducted in 41 specimens, and the results indicated that the positive rate of chromaffin granule A(CgA), synaptophysin(Syn), and CD56i was 34.1%, 100%, and 80.5%, respectively. A total of 62 patients were cured successfully under endoscopy. Furthermore, the metastasis rate was low (7.6%, 6/79). Conclusions There was no specific clinical manifestation in the early stage of the carcinoids, and gastrointestinal endoscopy and pathology were the main tools for their discovery and diagnosis. The treatment method for gastrointestinal carcinoid was dependent on the size of tumor, infiltration, and metastasis. Endoscopic treatment should be the first choice for patients who meet the criteria of endoscopic excision.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the correlation of males'age with sperm apoptosis, sperm DNA integrity and other seminal parameters.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We collected 104 semen samples and divided them into three groups according to the males' age: <35 yr (n = 43), 35 -39 yr (n = 31), and > or = 40 yr (n = 30). Based on the WHO Laboratory Manual (4th ed), we detected the seminal parameters, calculated the percentage of apoptotic sperm by flow cytometry (FCM), determined sperm DNA integrity by Acridine orange staining, and compared the results among the three groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were no statistically significant differences among the < 35 yr, 35 -39 yr and > or = 40 yr groups in semen volume ([2.87 +/- 0.89] ml vs [2.98 +/- 1.09] ml vs [2.65 +/- 0.95] ml), sperm concentration ([60.40 +/- 25.43] x 10(6)/ml vs [69.74 +/- 28.33] x 10(6)/ml vs [55.97 +/- 27.22] x 10(6)/ml) (P>0.05). The percentage of progressively motile sperm was significantly lower in the > or = 40 yr ([39.00 +/- 8.35 %) than in the <35 and 35 -39 yr groups ([48.73 +/- 9.89]% and [45.65 +/- 10.55]%) (P<.0.1), and so was the percentage of morphologically normal sperm in the > or = 40 yr than in the < 35 yr group ([11.11 +/- 8.26]% vs [16.43 +/- 8.75 ]%, P<0.01). The percentage of apoptotic sperm was markedly higher in the > or = 40 yr than in the <35 yr group ([11.82 +/- 5.77]% vs [7.04 +/- 3.50]%, P<0.01), while the sperm DNA integrity significantly reduced in the > or = 40 yr group ([75.52 +/- 10.60]%) as compared with the <35 yr ([86.55 +/- 5.60])% and 35 -39 yr group ( [81.39 +/- 8.94]%) (P<0.01). The males' age was correlated positively with the rate of sperm apoptosis (P<0.01), and negatively with sperm DNA integrity and the percentage of progressively motile sperm (P<0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The advance in males' age increases sperm apoptosis and reduces sperm progressive motility, normal morphology and DNA integrity.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the influence of male age on the outcome of conventional IVF-ET.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Based on male age, 170 couples undergoing conventional IVF-ET were divided into three groups: <35 yr (n = 60), 35 -39 yr (n = 77) and > or = 40 yr (n = 33). We observed the rates of fertilization, cleavage, good quality embryo, implantation, clinical pregnancy and abortion in different groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There were no significant differences among the three groups in semen volume ([3.10 +/- 1.22] ml vs [2.84 +/- 1.05] ml vs [2.80 +/- 0.79] ml), sperm concentration ([54.23 +/- 26.07] x 10(6)/ml vs [60.27 +/- 24.80] x 10(6)/ml vs [60.21 +/- 27.42] x 10(6)/ml) and sperm viability ([53.93 +/- 13.25]% vs [56.10 +/- 16.58]% vs [51.82 +/- 15.45]%) (P>0.05). The men of the > or = 40 yr group showed a significantly lower percentage of grade a + b sperm ([40.97 +/- 11.91]%) than those of the <35 and 35 - 39 yr groups ([48.47 +/- 11.78]% and [46.84 +/- 13.51]%) (P<0.05), and morphologically normal sperm ([11.76 +/- 5.97]%) than those of the <35 yr group ([15.25 +/- 6.94]% (P<0.05). The rates of fertilization, cleavage, good quality embryo, implantation, clinical pregnancy were 81.52%, 82.61%, 52.33%, 18.06% and 33.33% in the > or = 40 yr group, with no significant differences from those of the <35 yr group (83.18%, 82.68%, 56.99%, 22.40% and 40.00%) and the 35 - 39 yr group (78.78%, 80.66%, 55.01%, 21.74% and 38.96%) (P>0.05), while the abortion rate was markedly increased in the > or = 40 yr group as compared with the <35 yr group (36.36% vs 8.33%, P>0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Increasing male age is related with decreasing percentages of progressively motile sperm and morphologically normal sperm, but not obviously with the rates of fertilization, good quality embryo, implantation, pregnancy and abortion.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between serum visfatin level and coronary artery stenosis. Methods Based on coronary angiography,85 patients were diagnosed as coronary heart disease.According to oral glucose tolerance test, these patients were divided into 3 groups,34 patients with normal glucose tolerance(CHD group),25 with impaired glucose regulation(CIG group),and 26 with type 2 diabetes mellitus(CDM group).30 non-comary heart disease subjects with normal glucose tolerance were selected as the control group(CON group),and they underwent coronary CT angiography scan and were confirmed coronary disease-free.Blood pressure, body mass index(BMI),waist circumference(WC),waist hip ratio(WHR),fasting plasma glucose(FPG),blood lipid analysis, fasting insulin, and HbA1C were determined.Serum visfatin concentration was assayed and the status of coronary artery was assessed.Coronary artery stenosis was screened by coronary interventional angiography and assessed by Gemini scoring system in CHD,CIG,and CDM groups. Results Compared with control group, serum visfatin in CHD,CIG,and CDM groups were significantly higher(all P<0.05).Compared with CHD group, serum visfatin in CIG and CDM groups were significantly higher(all P<0.05).The correlation analysis showed that serum visfatin level was positively correlated with the involved branches of coronary arteries(r=0.807,P<0.01),serum visfatin level was positively related with Gensini coronary artery score(r=0.669,P<0.01).Visfatin was also positively correlated with WC,WHR,triglyceride(TG,r=0.200,P=0.032,r=0.185,P=0.047,r=0.321,P<0.01),while high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)was negatively correlated with visfatin(r=-0.354,P<0.01).Multiple regression analysis showed that senlm hvel of TG and WC were the main influencing factors of visfatin. Conclusion (1)The level of serum visfatin may reflect the severity of coronary artery stenosis, detection of visfatin helps to make early diagnosis of CHD.(2)The raised serum level of visfatin in comary heart disease patients with imparied glucose tolerance is consistent with clinical evidence that diabetic patients have more severe coronary diseases.(3)WC and serum TG are main inilucencing factors, suggesting that visfatin is correlated with abdominal obesity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the influence of hyperthermia on T helper subgroup (T help type1/T help type2,Th1/Th2) for patients with esophageal carcinoma. Methods 22 patients of esophageal carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups. Both group patients were treated by external radiation, the total dose was 64-66 Gy/30-33 fractions. Radiotherapy was the only therapy method in group A. Hypertbermia was used twice every week, with 8-10 fractions except for radiotherapy in group B. All patients were phlebetomized at the beginning and the end of radiotherapy for examining Th1/Th2 by flow cytometry. Results Th1 was significantly decreased in group A(t = 5.33, P < 0.01). All indexes in group B had no difference (t = - 1.41, P > 0.05). TheThl in group A was decreased much more than that in group B(t = 4.28, P < 0.05). Conclusion Hyperthermia could rectify the balance of Th1/Tb2.

ABSTRACT

A novel molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) was prepared based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by using chlorogenic acid as template, methacrylic acid(MAA) as the functional monomer, and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linker. Infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to characterize the composite structure and morphology, the results showed that a stable imprinted layer was grafted on the MWNTs with the average thickness of 30-40 nm. The dynamic adsorption and static adsorption experiments were also executed and the results showed that two kinds binding sites with the maximum apparent binding constant 21.5 μmol/g and 32.7 μmol/g existed v.i. between the imprinted polymers and chlorogenic acid. As solid phase extraction (SPE) materials, the separation and enrichment of chlorogenic acid from honeysuckle were successful with a enrichment factor of 25.
