ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the feasibility and clinical effect of immediate ureterovesical reimplantation after ureteral rupture during laparoscopic hysterectomy. Methods From August 2010 to December 2015, 5 cases of ureteral rupture during the operation of laparoscopic hysterectomy were treated with immediate ureterovesical reimplantation under laparoscopy. Results All operations were successfully performed without transversion to open surgery. No patients with urinary leakage occurred. The mean follow-up were 21 months (range 3-60 months) . No cases with ureteral stricture were observed. Slight urine reflux was found in two patients, of whom obvious hydronephrosis and renal damage were not found. Conclusion Immediate ureterovesical reimplantation under laparoscopy is a feasible, safe and minimal invasive method for treatment of ureteral ruputure during laparoscopic hysterectomy.
ABSTRACT
Objective To investigate the differences of protein and mRNA expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) in osteoclasts (OC) and osteoclast-like cells (OLC) obtained by mechanical and inducement methods. Methods Mechanical separation method was used to separate mature osteoclasts from long bones of SD rats aged one-day;and inducement culture method was applied to induce OLC by using RANKL (100 ng/mL) and M-CSF (100 ng/mL) . The protein expression of MMP-9 was measured by immunocytochemistry and mRNA expression of MMP-9 was assayed by in situ hybridization. Results The integral optical density (IOD) and average optical density (AOD) of positive cells in the visual field were higher in the 12-d group of inducement method as compared with the 3 d-group of mechanical method. Conclusions It is suggested that the protein and mRNA expression of MMP-9 in OLC obtained by 12 d inducement method is much high than in OC obtained by 3 d mechanical method. OLC obtained by inducement method can be applied in the study of osteoporosis.
ABSTRACT
Objective To compare the surgical outcomes between laparoscopic and open surgeries in treatment of ectopic oviduct pregnancy, and investigate the clinical value of laparoscopic surgery. Methods Two hundred and forty-six patients with ectopic oviduct pregnancy in our hospital from June 2009 to March 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. 134 cases were treated with laparoscopic operation and 112 with open surgery. Some parameters such as operative time, blood loss, usage of pain-killer, hospital stay were compared between both groups. Results All operations were successful. Laparoscopic surgery was shown to be superior to open operation in the parameters of operative time, blood loss, usage of pain-killer and hospital stay ( < 0.05) . Conclusion Compared with open operation, laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of less trauma and rapid postoperative rehabilitation. It may become the first line treatment for ectopic oviduct pregnancy.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To summarize the results of general survey, primary structure analysis and related functional studies of abnormal hemoglobins (Hbs) found in Hunan Province.</p><p><b>DATA SOURCES</b>International Hb journals, Chinese biochemical and biomedical journals and other articles relevant to hematology.</p><p><b>STUDY SELECTION</b>All Hb variants found in Hunan and identified by primary structure analysis during 1980 - 1991 were included.</p><p><b>DATA EXTRACTION</b>Data concerning 11 types of Hb variants found in 3 districts and 7 counties in Hunan Province were briefly documented. Their frequencies of occurrence were calculated and their distributions among Han, Yao, Tujia and Dong ethnic groups were listed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Thirty-six cases with abnormal Hb were identified out of 7412 individuals screened in Hunan. 11 different types of Hb variants were recognized by primary structure analysis in 19 propositi along with their family members, including 5 alpha-chain variants, 4 beta-chain variants, 1 delta-chain variant and 1 delta-beta chain fusion variant. Oxygen equilibrium characteristics, reaction dynamics, the rate of globin chain synthesis (RGCS), morphology observation by electron microscopy and DNA analysis were all used in the functional studies of hemoglobinopathies.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The average incidence of abnormal Hbs in Hunan is 0.486%. In Jianghua County, whose inhabitants are mostly of the Yao ethnic group, the incidence is significantly higher (1.09%). Hb Jianghua [beta120(GH3) Lys-->lle] and Hb Shuangfeng (SF) [alpha27(B8) Glu-->Lys] were two new variants first reported in international literature; whereas Hb Lille [alpha74(EF3) Asp-->Ala], HbA(2) Flatbush [delta22(B4) Ala-->Glu] and Hb Lepore-Boston [delta87(F3)-beta116(G18)] were the first three instances to be found in China. Hb SF displayed an oxygen affinity 1.5-fold higher than that of HbA at pH 7.4 and 25 degrees C with its oxygen equilibrium curve shifted to the left. Reticulocytes of Hb SF heterozygote showed unbalanced RGCS, quite similar to that found in beta-thalassemia minor. Erythrocytes of Hb SF heterozygote were changed to spherocytes and began to lyse after incubation with sodium salicylate or sulfadiazine (pH 7.4, 37 degrees C) for 2 - 4 h. These findings explained the sudden attack of hemolytic anemia provoked by two drugs in Hb SF propositus. The genotype of a patient with Hb Q-H disease is identified as -,-/-,alpha(Q) by DNA restriction mapping.</p>

In order to explore the available sero-diagnotic method for surveillance in basically controlled and controlled areas of schistosomiasis japonica, a 3 years longitudinal investigation of children 6~14 years old with COPT in 5 endemic areas was carried out after being basically controlled for 8~16 years. The results showed that the examination of children with COPT is one of the available serodiagnostic methods of schistosomiasis for surveillance. In all five areas the positive rate of children in this age group was less than 3%, and the circumoval precipitin rate among the positive cases was less than 5%. Therefore, it is indicated that the above mentioned two indexes can be used for sero-surveillance of schistosomiasis japonica.
ABSTRACT
The carotene content in 42 kinds of Chinese herbs applied traditionally as the remedies for "Hwen-mong" were analyzed with the column chromatogra-ghic method. It was found that majority of the samples were not so rich in carotene as considered formerly, there were 13 kinds of herbs which contained no carotene at all (The contents of the 42 kinds tested varied from 0 to 12.83 mg. per 100 gm. of the dry weight). Our figures are far lower than those reported by Mar and Read in 1936. The significant discrepancy between these results is ascribed chiefly to the different methods employed for chemical analysis. Since the method used by Mar and Read did not completely exclude the interference of the other carotenoid pigments in the chloroform extracts.In view of the data obtained, we believe that the efficacy of these vegetable remedies for nightblindness due to a'vitaminosis A needs further investigation.
