ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the individual factors of postural adjustment reaction time and movement time during adaptive equilibrium. MethodsFrom March to December, 2021, 126 healthy adults aged 18 to 80 years were recruited at the First Medical Center of the General Hospital of the Chinese PLA. The DE-A somatosensory balance detection system was used to detect their postural adjustment reaction time (RT) and movement time (MT) as the platform tilting in multiple directions during standing (static) or walking (dynamic). The ages, genders, body mass index (BMI) and physical activity level of them were investigated. ResultsThe age was the only factor independently associated with dynamic RT and MT in all the directions (β > 0.632, P < 0.05). For static MT, as the platform tilting forward, physical activity level (β = -0.143, P < 0.05), BMI (β = 0.154, P < 0.05) and age (β = 0.663, P < 0.05) were the independently associated factors; as the platform tilting leftward, gender (β = -0.173, P < 0.05) and age (β = 0.647, P < 0.05) were the independently associated factors; and age was the only independently associated factor for other directions (β > 0.571, P < 0.05). For the static RT, age was the only independently associated factor for all the directions (β > 0.615, P < 0.05). ConclusionAge is the most important independently factor related to postural adjustment during adaptive equilibrium, and aging may delay the postural adjustment after instability.

ABSTRACT

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap (ACO) is a hot topic in recent years.Although the precise definition of ACO is still controversial, scholars have found that the patients with overlapping features of asthma and COPD have a worse prognosis and increased medical cost than those with asthma or COPD alone. Thus, there is a big challenge to have a better understanding and to manage these patients in clinical practice. To strengthen awareness of this type of patients, the Global initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and Global initiative for asthma (GINA) in 2014 named them as " Asthma Chronic Obstructive Lung Overlap Syndrome" (ACOS),which was further revised to the Asthma Chronic Obstructive Lung Overlap (ACO) in the follow-up GINA guidelines (2017).In the updated version,it emphasized that ACO was not a separate disease. However, although the research on ACO has increased significantly in recent years, there are still many controversies, which includes the definition, diagnostic criteria and treatment therapies. In this review,we provide the recent advances in the diagnosis and an overview of available treatment for of ACO.

ABSTRACT

The overall impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on individuals is multifaceted and it causes impairment not only in lungs but also in other organs, and even in psychological conditions that result in multiple symptomatic effects and poorer quality of life. Therefore,it is critical to e valuate patients'quality of life in the clinical practice.Besides modified Medical British Research Council (mMRC) and COPD assessment test (CAT),the clinical COPD questionnaire (CCQ),a self-administered questionnaire was also recommended by GOLD2013 to assess patients'health status.Compared to the wide spread use of mMRC and CAT,CCQ was paid less attention in our clinical work. This study focused on the development, reliability, validity and responsiveness of the CCQ among subjects with COPD.We found that CCQ was easily understood with good reliability, validity and responsiveness and the use of the CCQ should be promoted as a health status measurement in more countries and regions.

ABSTRACT

Circulatory state and metabolic homeostasis could be more easily disturbed during perioperative periods for children compared with those of adults especially when receiving massive transfusions.Patient's age would be an important factor for clinical evaluation if certain amount of blood was lost.Component transfusions have now gained wide recognitions.Specific blood components should be considered according to different diseases, which would make transfusion more accurate and blood resources used more efficiently. This article focused on the indications, doses and several specific issues for perioperative component transfusions among pediatric patients.

ABSTRACT

A special bioreactor-SBR,including its principle and structure character,is introduced in this article, which is applied in biodialysis system LDBS. According to the result of the testing on animals ,it is proved to be available that using this special bioreactor liver cells can be cultured in large quantities and chronically, and their activity and performance can be hold for a long period. Metabolism is also observed and the immunoreaction between blood and liver cells is validated.
