ABSTRACT

With the development of modern liver surgical techniques and the progress of perioperative management, the survival rate after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma has been greatly improved, but the high recurrence and metastasis rate still limits the long-term survival after surgery. Preoperative neoadjuvant therapy has been confirmed to significantly reduce the postoperative recurrence rate and prolong survival in other types of cancer, but there has been a lack of effective systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma for a long time,so the efficacy and regimen of neoadjuvant therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma are still controversial. PD-1/PD-L1 monoclonal antibody combined with anti-angiogenic targeted drugs has become a first-line regimen in systemic therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. This regimen has definite efficacy and high safety, bringing hope for neoadjuvant therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma. Recently, three clinical trials of neoadjuvant immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma have been published internationally, which preliminarily suggest the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma and lay a solid foundation for carrying out larger sample clinical studies in the future.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo determine the efficacy of phosphocreatine kinase in the early diagnosis of compartment syndrome.

METHODSForty patients with compartment syndrome of limbs were reviewed from 2005 to 2008 including 34 males and 6 females with an average age of (37.03 +/- 13.02) years. Monitoring phosphocreatine kinase continuously and dynamically after injured 2, 24 hours, 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks later. The concentration of CK were measured by using Japanese Olympus automatic biochemistry analysator. The muscle preparations from affected extremity were taken after operation and 1, 2, 3 weeks later for biopsy.

RESULTSTwo hours later after injury, the contents of CK increased sharply and the contents of CK were about 20 times more than the nomal. Twenty-four hours later, the contents of CK reached its maximum, the contents of CK were about 42 times more than the nomal. One week later, the contents of CK recovered to normal level. Pathological changes of muscle were irreversible.

CONCLUSIONThe change of the contents of CK can reflect the progression of disease objectively. If it increased sharply, the chance of compartment syndrome was high. Monitored it dynamicly and continuously can provide assistant for early diagnosis of compartment syndrome and evaluating pathogenetic condition.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo establish the method of seminal uric acid (UA) determination and investigate the correlation between the seminal UA level and semen parameters.

METHODSThe method of seminal UA determination was established by modifying the method of serum UA detection, and its intraassay coefficient of variation (CV) and the difference of the results between different technicians were also observed to evaluate the acceptability of the method. In the meanwhile, the correlations of the seminal UA level with the patients' age, abstinence time, semen volume, pH, sperm concentration, motility, the percentage of grade a and b sperm, and the percentage of morphologically normal sperm.

RESULTSThe intraassay CV was 9. 16% for the method of seminal UA detection, and there was no significant difference in the UA level detected by 2 technicians (P = 0.541). The seminal UA level was positively correlated with the percentage of morphologically normal sperm (r = 0.350, P = 0.025) , with a tendency of positive correlation with sperm motility (r = 0.147, P = 0.085) and the percentage of grade a and b sperm (r = 0.156, P = 0.068), but not with other parameters such as semen volume, pH, sperm concentration, abstinence time and the patients' age.

CONCLUSIONAn acceptable method of seminal UA determination could be established by modifying the method of serum UA detection. Sperm morphology, motility and the percentage of grade a and b sperm might be related to the level of seminal UA.

ABSTRACT

This paper introduces an automatic microscopic urinary sediment analyzer. A set of basic algorithms, including pretreatment and picking up characteristics is brought forward to realize the automatic segmentation of urinary sediment. This paper also characterizes the visible components in urinary sediment in morphology and has sum up 7 morphology parameters and a simple method of classification.
