ABSTRACT

Objective To provide study hotspot and direction of ischemic stroke for peers by reviewing and analyzing the literature characteristic of ischemic stroke published the international journal by Chinese institutions in the last 10 years. Methods We performed literature retrieval in the web of science core database (SCI) from 2008 to 2018, with the search term of "ischemic stroke" and limiting the author institution in China. We used the bibliometric analysis method to investigate the characteristics of the author, publishment time, journal, and citation. The study also used the CiteSpace software to analyze and visualize the cited counts, citation burst, centrality, and sigma value of the citing articles. Results In the past 10years, 9 401 science citation index (SCI) papers were published in the field of ischemic stroke by Chinese institutions. The number of paper had been increasing annually, and the main institutions of the literation were "Capital Medical university", "Fudan University", "Shanghai Jiaotong University", "Chinese University of Hong Kong" and "Nanjing Medical University". The overseas organization that was the most closely cooperated with Chinese institutions was Harvard University. The cluster analysis of the research topics found fourteen research topics. The ten hottest clusters were "stroke protection", "HIF-1 alpha", "balloon-expandable stents", "chromosome region", "ischemic postconditioning", "ischemic stroke risk", "multidetector CT perfusion", "Collagen IV-labeled vessel", and "cerebral ischemia". The high cited counts, burst, and centrality of literature were focused on the two clusters of "ischemic stroke" and "stroke protection". The cluster of "multi-slice CT perfusion" has been increased as a hot topic in recent years. Conclusions Many studies on ischemic stroke were published in SCI journal by Chinese researchers in the past ten years, and some studies of those have a great influence on the stroke field. Thematic trend analysis would help to understand future research directions for ischemic stroke.
