ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Certain hemophilia patients are unable to cooperate with or afford magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. The purpose of our study was to explore the value of multislice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) in evaluating hemophilic arthropathy (HA).@*METHODS@#Thirty-eight patients with 73 joints of HA were consecutively selected from January 2016 to May 2018 for this prospective study. All 73 joints were examined by X-ray, CT, and MRI within 2 days. The MRI scores of the joints were determined by the International Prophylaxis Study Group (IPSG) standard. The CT findings were quantified according to the IPSG standard, except for cartilage injury, which was quantified by joint space narrowing using the X-ray Pettersson score. The CT and MRI scores were compared by the paired Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The correlations between the CT score of joint space narrowing and MRI score of cartilage injury and the total CT and MRI scores were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation. The kappa test was used to compare the consistency of CT and MRI scores.@*RESULTS@#MRI was superior to CT based on the scores for small amount of effusion (P  0.05), and there was a high degree of consistency between the two scores (kappa > 0.81). The consistency between the Pettersson scores of joint space narrowing on CT and the IPSG scores of cartilage injury on MRI was high (kappa = 0. 774, P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The image scores of MSCT are generally consistent with MRI except for mild synovitis, which can be used as an alternative for the evaluation of HA.

ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To investigate the refractive state and related factors of low birth weight infants aged 3-6 years old.<p>METHODS: During the study period from March to June 2018, 144 cases of low birth weight infants in 8 kindergartens were randomly selected as study group. The normal birth weight of the same kindergarten was randomly selected according to the 1:1 pairing principle as control group. The refractive status and eye biometrics of the two groups were compared. The factors related to the equivalent spherical power of low birth weight were analyzed.<p>RESULTS: Among the children of all ages, the spherical degree and the equivalent spherical degree of the study group were lower than the control group. The corneal curvature was higher than that of the control group. There were significant differences of the axial length and the cylindrical degree between the two groups for 5-6 years old children(<i>P</i><0.05). After multiple regression, the equivalent spheroscopy degree =-10.491-0.442×age+0.765×gestational age+5.860×birth weight-1.529×axial length +0.547×corneal curvature(<i>R2</i>=0.823, <i>P</i><0.001).<p>CONCLUSION: The trend of myopic refractive error and astigmatism in children with low birth weight of 3-6 years old is higher than that of normal birth weight. The refractive error is closely related to age, gestational age, birth weight, axial length and corneal curvature, which requires early monitoring and intervention.

ABSTRACT

?AIM: To study correcting effect and visual quality after laser - assisted in situ keratomileusis ( LASIK ) with femtosecond and posterior chamber intraocular lens ( ICL) implantation in high myopia patients.?METHODS: Fifty-five patients ( 106 eyes ) with high myopia from February 2012 to February 2015 in our hospital were analyzed. According to the different operation, patients were divided into the observation group( using ICL implantation, 27 cases with 53 eyes) and the control group (using LASIK, 28 cases with 53 eyes). Postoperative follow-up was 1a, to observe and analyze the visual quality, higher order aberration and complications of two groups.?RESULTS: Uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) , the best corrected visual acuity ( BCVA ) , effectiveness index and security index at 1a postoperatively of observation group, were 1. 04±0. 86(LogMAR), 0. 97±0. 19(LogMAR), 104. 69± 18. 56, 108. 79 ± 17. 68, significantly higher than those of control group 0. 78 ± 0. 11 ( LogMAR ), 1. 04 ± 0. 09 (LogMAR), 93.78±15. 65, 100. 71±11. 68 (P 0. 05 ). No severe complications were observed in both groups.?CONCLUSION: LASIK with femtosecond and ICL lens implantation can effectively improve the patient’s visual quality, but for patients with high myopia, ICL lens implantation effect is more significant, the safety index of ICL implantation, as well as the effectiveness index and the visual quality are better than those of LASIK.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the therapeutic effect of acupoint sticking of Wuzhuyu (Evodia Rutaecarpa) for treatment of bradycardia.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty cases were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with acupoint sticking of Wuzhugu (Evodia Rutaecarpa) at Neiguan (PC 6) and Xinshu (BL 15) once each day. The control group was treated with oral administration of Xinbao pills, 3 pills each time, thrice each day. The therapeutic effects and changes of 24 hours' holter were observed after 4 weeks.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After treatment, 24 hours' average heart rate was significantly improved in the two groups, with significant differences as compared with those before treatment (both P<0.01) and with no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). The total effective rate was 86.7% (26/30) in the observation group and 83.3% (25/30) in the control group, their therapeutic effect being similar.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Acupoint sticking of Wuzhugu (Evodia Rutaecarpa) can significantly raise the levels of 24 hours' average heart rate in the patients of bradycardia. This therapy and Xinbao pills have similar therapeutic effect on the improvement of clinical symptom and heart rate levels.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the methylation of CpG islands in the promoter region, expression of caveolin 1 (Cav-1) gene and their clinical significance in non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Immunohistochemistry and quanta Qd600 staining were used to detect the expression of Cav-1 in tissues from benign lung lesions (n = 17) and NSCLC (n = 123). DNA was treated with sodium bisulfite and the Cav-1 promoter region was screened using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction for the possible methylation sites.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Cav-1 protein was highly expressed in cytoplasm and cell membrane of normal bronchial epithelium, alveolar epithelium, endothelial cells, fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells. The expression rates of Cav-1 protein were 100% (17/17) in the control group and 43.1% (53/123) in the NSCLC group (P = 0.001). Amongst the NSCLC group, there was no statistically significant difference in Cav-1 protein expression in different histologic types (P = 0.552) and tumor grades (P = 0.160). On the other hand, Cav-1 protein immunoreactivity was remarkably higher in advanced tumor stage: 72.7% in stage III A + III B, compared with 9.4% in stage I A + I B and 38.3% in stage II A + II B (P = 0.001). The expression rate of Cav-1 protein in the NSCLC cases with lymph node metastasis was 53.6%, compared with 20.5% in those without nodal involvement (P = 0.001). DNA from 40 NSCLC cases with negative Cav-1 protein expression and 12 cases of peritumoral lung tissues were extracted. Methylation in the promoter region of Cav-1 gene was not detected in lung cancer or peritumoral tissues.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>High expression of Cav-1 protein is respected of the aggressive clinical behavior and advanced tumor stage. Loss of Cav-1 protein expression seems not correlated to the methylation status in the promoter region of Cav-1 gene.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>AIM</b>To investigate the effects of extremely low magnetic field on acute and chronic arthritis of rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The acute arthritis animal models were built by the right thenar hypodermic injection of carrageenan. Then they were exposed to magnetic field for 6 hours and 8 hours, respectively. The chronic arthritis animal models were built by the right thenar hypodermic injection of complete freund's adjuvant. They were exposed to magnetic field for 7 days and 6 hours each day after the secondary affection appeared 15 days later. The swelling and inflammatory cytokine were observed in both the acute and chronic arthritis models.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The ankle and thenar swellings decreased in both the acute and chronic arthritis models after different time exposure. The cytokine of serum and articular lixivium did not change in 6 hours exposed groups of acute arthritis models. The serum IL-6 and articular lixivium IL-6, TNF-alpha decreased compared with sham groups. Though the rest indexes were unchanged, they had the tendency of decrease.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The extremely low magnetic field has the effects of restraining acute and chronic arthritis of rats, and can also partially restrain the cytokines when the rats were exposed for 8 hours. The mechanisms need to be further investigated.</p>
