ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#To systematically evaluate the value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting coronary artery lesions (CAL) in Chinese children with Kawasaki Disease (KD).@*METHODS@#A comprehensive search was conducted in databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, China Biomedical Literature Database, and China Science and Technology Journal Database from inception to December 2022. The quality of the included literature was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and a Meta analysis was performed using Stata 15.1.@*RESULTS@#A total of ten published reports, involving 3 664 Chinese children with KD, were included in this Meta analysis, of whom 1 328 developed CAL. The Meta analysis revealed a sensitivity of 0.78 (95%CI: 0.71-0.83), specificity of 0.71 (95%CI: 0.61-0.80), overall diagnostic odds ratio of 8.69 (95%CI: 5.02-15.06), and an area under the curve of the summary receiver operating characteristic of 0.82 (95%CI: 0.78-0.85) for PLR in predicting CAL in the children with KD. The sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of summary receiver operating characteristic were lower for PLR alone compared to PLR in combination with other indicators. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated the stability of the Meta analysis results with no significant changes upon excluding individual studies. However, a significant publication bias was observed (P<0.001).@*CONCLUSIONS@#PLR demonstrates certain predictive value for CAL in Chinese children with KD.

ABSTRACT

During the normal process of biological growth and development, NF-E2-related factor 1 (Nrf1/ Nfe2l1) plays a unique role in maintaining intracellular homeostasis and organ integrity. The deficiency of Nrf1 will lead to severe oxidative stress, genomic instability, and result in liver cancer, neurodegenerative disorder and other diseases. In recent years, it has been found that Nrf1 could yield different activated isoforms or even opposite activity isoforms in a variety of ways to perform distinct functions, and the distribution of these isoforms may play a vital role in the process of tumor development. Therefore, to gain a better understanding of the function of Nrf1 isoforms in cells and tissues, we first briefly introduced its discovery process, and demonstrated the multiple mechanisms of distinct isoform production including selective shear processing, internal selective translation initiation, and post-translation shear processing. More importantly, three different post-translational processing models, transmembrane dynamic processing, site-specific processing, ubiquitin-dependent processing, were expounded in detail. Furthermore, the biological function of different isoforms of Nrf1 and its role in diseases were also summarized in the last section. Collectively, we focus on the production mechanism of different isoforms of Nrf1 and their roles in diseases so as to lay a foundation for finding new strategies for tumor treatment.

ABSTRACT

Acne is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the skin that often occurs on the face, and acne scars are often secondary to the healing process of acne, which often leads to impaired appearance and psychological disorders of patients. The current treatment for acne scars is extremely difficult. With the development of regenerative medicine, stem cell transplantation has become a new treatment for acne scars. In recent years, it has been reported that stem cells and their derivatives can effectively antagonize the formation of acne scars. Therefore, this paper briefly reviews the basic and clinical researches on the treatment of acne scars with various mesenchymal stem cells and their derivatives, aiming to provide theoretical basis and reference for the stem cell therapy of acne scars.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The quality evaluation of herbal products remains a big challenge. Traceable markers are the core concept of the authentication of herbal products. However, the discovery of traceable markers is labor-intensive and time-consuming. The aim of this study is to develop a convenient approach to rapidly screen the traceable markers for herbal product authentication. Methods: Commercial Jing Liqueur and its 22 species of herbal ingredients were analyzed using HPLC-QTOF-MS and GC–MS to characterize nonvolatile and volatile chemicals. The acquired data were imported into MZmine 2 software for mass detection, chromatogram building, deconvolution and alignment. The aligned data were exported into a csv file and then traceable markers were selected using the built-in filter function in Excel. Finally, the traceable markers were identified by searching against online databases or publications, some of which were confirmed by reference standards. Results: A total of 288 chemical features transferred from herbal materials to Jing Liqueur product were rapidly screened out. Among them, 52 markers detected by HPLC-QTOF-MS were annotated, while nine volatile markers detected by GC–MS were annotated. Moreover, 30 of these markers were confirmed by comparing with reference standards. A chemical fingerprint consisting of traceable markers was finally generated to ensure the authentication and quality consistency of Jing Liqueur. Conclusion: A strategy for rapid discovery of traceable markers in herbal products using MZmine 2 software was developed.

ABSTRACT

Most of the active ingredients of herbs are secondary metabolites of plants. Cytochrome P450s (P450s) are hemoglobin-containing monooxygenases encoded by a super-gene family, which play important roles in the metabolic network of plants. This review focuses on the role of P450s on biosynthesis of secondary metabolites such as terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids and phenylpropanoids. This will provide references for biosynthesis and regulation of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants.

ABSTRACT

Tanshinones are abietane-type norditerpenoid quinones that make up the main bioactive ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza. Cytochrome CYP450 plays an important role in the post-structural modification of tanshinone biosynthesis pathway. Long non-coding RNA( lncRNA) have been defined as transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides, which have been functionally characterized in regulating the growth and development, secondary metabolism and stress of medicinal plants. In this study,we perform a comprehensive identification of lncRNAs in response to tanshinone metabolism induced by yeast extract( YE) and Ag~+ S. miltiorrhiza hairy roots. Deep RNA sequencing was used to identify a set of different 8 942 lncRNAs,of which 6 755 were intergenic lncRNAs. We predicted a total of 1 115 814 lncRNA-coding gene pairs, including 122 lncRNA-coding gene as cis pairs. The correlation analysis between lncRNA and CYP450 related to tanshinone biosynthesis was carried out and a total of 16 249 lncRNA-CYP450 target gene pairs were identified. Further analysis with functional known CYP76 AH1,CYP76 AH3 and CYP76 AK1 involved in tanshinone biosynthesis,we also identified a set of 216 target genes. These candidate genes will be the important target in the downstream regulation mechanism analysis of the tanshinone biosynthesis pathway.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the biomechanical stability of different fixation methods for anterior ring injury of unstable pelvic fractures, and to provide reference for clinical treatment.@*METHODS@#An unstable pelvic fracture model (Tile C) with one side of the sacroiliac joint dislocation and the pubic rami fracture was constructed via three-dimensional finite element analysis. Five different fixation methods were used in the front, and the rear was fixed with sacroiliac screws. The von Mises stress and strain distributions of different combinations of fixation methods were analyzed under mimicking standing conditions.@*RESULTS@#After being loaded with 500 N vertically, the maximum stress in the anterior fracture was 3.56 MPa in anterior pelvic external fixation (AEF) group, the total displacement and the vertical displacement of the Y axis at the sacroiliac joint and the fracture were not more than 1.5 mm. The maximum stress at fixation, the front of the fracture and sacroiliac joints in the anterior pelvic subcutaneous approach(APA) group and AEF, was significantly higher than anterior modified Stoppa approach(ASA) group, anterior pelvic Ilioinguinal approach (AIA) group, and canulated screw fixation(CSF) group. The total displacement and the vertical displacement of the Y axis at the sacroiliac joint and the fracture in APA group and AEF group were also greater than the other three groups.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Anterior ring injury of unstable pelvic fractures can be significantly improved after the fixation of the implants in the five combined methods. However, overall biomechanical properties of ASA, AIA and CSF group are superior to APA and AEF group.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>PURPOSE</b>Renal denervation (RD) has been demonstrated to be an effective approach to reduce blood pressure for those with resistant hypertension. Yet, we aimed to explore the effect and possible mechanism of RD on blood-pressure response to hemorrhagic shock in spontaneously hypertensive rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 48 male spontaneously hypertensive rats were randomized to three groups: study group, sham-operation group and control group. RD was achieved by cutting off renal nerves and swabbing phenol on it. Ten weeks after RD, 8 rats in each group were sacrificed to collect the kidney and heart tissues. The remaining rats were subjected to an operation to induce hemorrhagic shock which would lead to 40% loss of total blood volume, and observed for 120 min. The serum concentration of norepinephrine was measured before and three weeks after RD.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The blood-pressure and norepinephrine levels were reduced significantly after RD (p < 0.05). Systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure of the surgery group were higher than those in the sham and control groups at 15, 30 and 45 min after hemorrhagic shock (p < 0.05), while no significant difference was observed at 60, 90 and 120 min (p > 0.05). Additionally, the beta-1 adrenergic receptor (β1-AR) in the study group was significantly higher than those in the other two groups (p < 0.05) after hemorrhagic shock.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>This study demonstrated that RD could to some extent improve blood-pressure response to hemorrhagic shock in an established model of severe hemorrhagic shock in spontaneously hypertensive rats. The mechanism might be associated with up-regulation of β1-AR.</p>

The degree of fracture displacement and the contact characteristics of the acetabulum were recorded by continuous vertical loading.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The mean longitudinal displacement under the load 800 N of SP, PS and PP three groups were (1.92±0.81), (2.09±1.13) and (3.44±0.75) mm, there was significant difference between SP and PP group (0.033). And the mean horizontal displacement of SP, PS and PP three groups were(0.63±0.33), (0.77±0.45) and (1.44±0.56) mm, there was significant difference between SP and PP group(0.047).Compared with normal control group in the acetabular area under the loading 800 N, the contact area of SP, PS and PP groups were increased by 6%, 9% and 27%, there was significant difference between PP and normal control group (0.027). Meanwhile, the mean stress of SP, PS and PP groups were increased by 4%, 29% and 39%, there was significant difference between PP and intact acetabulum group (0.003).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Anterior column screw combined with posterior column plate has better biomechanical stability and contact characteristics than other two methods.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the knowledge, attitude, behavior about Dietary Guidelines for Chinese (2007) among elderly residents in 2 communities in Wenzhou City, and to exoplore the appropriate method for dietary intervention for elderly people. Methods A questionnaire survey was carried out in 784 people aged 50 years and above in two communities in Wenzhou from December, 2014 to January, 2015 about Dietary Guidelines for Chinese (2007) .The awareness of knowledge, attitude and behavior about nutrition were recorded, and multiple linear regressions were taken to evaluate the impression of knowledge. Results The awareness rate of knowledge was 58.28%, and the awareness about 'Which is the healthiest way to cook?' was the hot question (89.29%) while 'Which disease can be prevented by eating iodized salt?' was not (0.89%) . And 53.06% of respondents interested in nutrient knowledge, and 14.54% of them thought they had learned the knowledge about nutrition, and 39.54% of them thought knowledge had impact on health, and 76.53% of them would like to change their unhealthy dietary behavior. About 50.89% of respondents got knowledge about nutrition from TV or radio programs. Intake frequency about vegetables and fish were 88.01% and 62.63%respectively, while intake frequency about milk and milk products and beans and their products were 21.43% and 15.43%respectively. Multiple linear regression promoted that, female, a high degree of education, less number of offspring, people who had married, people whose income came from social insurance had positive impact on the awareness rate of knowledge. Conclusion The awareness rate of knowledge among elderly people was low, and intake frequency about milk and milk products and beans and their products were efficient. But they would like to change their unhealthy behavior. Long-term education about nutrition should be taken for elderly people.

ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the level of sulfur dioxide(SO2) residues in sea shrimps on the market and to evaluate the health risk of the SO2 exposure of Wenzhou population by eating sea shrimp .Method SO2 residues in 246 sea shrimp samples collected from Wenzhou market from 2015 to 2016 were analyzed. The point assessment method was used to evaluate the risk of SO2 exposure for consumers, using the data of residents' consumption survey in 2008 in Zhejiang Province. Results The median of SO2 residual in the whole shrimp and the shrimp without shell were 20.05 mg/kg and 10.65 mg/kg respectively(P<0.05). The over-standard rate of SO2 for the whole shrimp and the shrimp without shell were 19.11% and 5.69%(P<0.05) respectively. The average exposure of SO2 in general population by eating the whole shrimp and the shrimp without shell were 0.0459 mg/kg BW and 0.0076 mg/kg BW respectively. However, the exposure of SO2 in high-consuming population (>P97.5) by eating the whole shrimp and the shrimp without shell were 0.1142 mg/kg BW and 0.0189 mg/kg BW respectively. The exposure level of SO2 in men were lower than in women. Conclusion The health risk of the SO2 exposure by eating sea shrimp in general population and high-consuming population is in a low level in Wenzhou.
