ABSTRACT

To explore the composition and diversity of the intestinal microflora of Leopoldamys edwardsi in Hainan Island. In November 2019, DNA was extracted from fecal samples of 25 adult Leopoldamys edwardsi (14 males and 11 females) in Hainan Island at the Joint Laboratory of tropical infectious diseases of Hainan Medical College and Hong Kong University. Based on the IonS5TMXL sequencing platform, single-end sequencing (Single-End) was used to construct a small fragment library for single-end sequencing. Based on Reads shear filtration and OTUs clustering. The species annotation and abundance analysis of OTUs were carried out by using mothur method and SSUrRNA database, and further conducted α diversity and β diversity analysis. A total of 1481842 high quality sequences, belonging to 14 Phyla, 85 families and 186 Genera, were obtained from 25 intestinal excrement samples of Leopoldamys edwardsi. At the level of phyla classification, the main core biota of the Leopoldamys edwardsi contained Firmicutes (46.04%),Bacteroidetes (25.34%), Proteobacteria (17.09%), Tenericutes (7.38%) and Actinobacteria (1.67%), these five phyla account for 97.52% of all phyla. The ratio of Helicobacter which occupied the largest proportion at the genus level was 12.44%, followed by Lactobacillus (11.39%), Clostridium (6.19%),Mycoplasma (4.23%) and Flavonifractor (3.52%). High throughput sequencing analysis showed that the intestinal flora of Leopoldamys edwardsi in Hainan Island was complex and diverse, which had the significance of further research.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To design a toilet assistant device according with an ergonomics based on the natural sit-to-stand transition motion trajectory, to improve the safety and comfort for the older adults. Methods:The sit-to-stand transition motion trajectory was obtained at different speeds using Inertial Measurement Unit from twelve healthy subjects. The finite element contrastive pressures on toilet seat at 0°, 10°, 20°, 30°, 40° sitting inclination angles were compared from this trajectory to the other research trajectory, as well as the balance analysis after standing. A total of 20 healthy subjects experienced the toilet assistant device and reported their satisfaction. Results:At four angles of inclination, the average pressure of this trajectory was less than that of the other research; while the vertical projection of center of mass was within the range of center of pressure, satisfying the balance condition. Most of the subjects were satisfactory to the toilet assistant device. Conclusion:A new sit-to-stand transition motion trajectory has been obtained. A toilet assistant device based on the motion trajectory has been designed, which is comfortable and steady.

ABSTRACT

We aimed to provide scientific evidence for the effective control of the epidemic and to investigate the sources of infection and possible ways of transmission.Epidemiological investigation was carried out to explore the source of infection by using the case-control study. Results showed that the outbreak of the epidemic was hemorrhagic fever, the onset of 40 cases was from August 21 to September 4,accounting for 73.68 % of the case number.Cases were cluster in Weizhuang Town,Feinan Town and Longkang Town, accounting for 60.00% of the case number. The cases who aged from 40 to 79 years accounted for 85.00%.The cases with medium and high fever, tiredness, chills, muscle pain, gastrocnemius and headache accounted for 85.00%,95.00%,90.00%,75.00%,62.50% and 40.00%,respectively.The 97.50% cases had exposure history of suspected contaminated water.Case-control study result showed that hands and feet had the wound in 15 days before the onset (x2=15.74,P <0.01),and farming work in 15 days before the onset (x2 =11.08,P <0.01) were the risk factors of leptospirosis infection. There are the bacteria change and the trend from south to north along the Huaihe River Basin.Strengthen the monitoring work in high-risk areas was the effective measurement to reduce the incidence of leptospirosis.

ABSTRACT

Fluorescence differential display (FDD) technique was used to identify genes that are specifically or preferentially expressed in different developmental stages of cotton fiber cells. One hundred and nine differentially displayed cDNA fragments were isolated using 9, 21 and 27 DPA (days postanthesis) fibers as experimental materials. By a combination of two rounds of reverse Northern hybridization and Northern blot analyses, a number of such cDNA fragments were proved to represent fiber-specific/preferential genes. Sequencing determination and database searching indicated that most of these genes are novel. This work is an important step towards cloning the full-length cDNAs and characterizing the cellular functions of aforementioned genes in fiber development.
