ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture treatment based on Tiaoshen theory for the patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) and depression with liver-stomach disharmony syndrome. Methods:A total of 76 FD patients from May 2018 to August 2019 were randomly divided into 2 groups with 38 patients in each group. In the routine group, acupoints were selected routinely, and in Tiaoshen group, acupoints were selected by Tiaoshen theory. Both groups were treated for 28 days. The results were evaluated by Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI), TCM Syndrome Score and Hamilton Depression Scale-24 (HAMD-24). Results:The total effective rate of both groups was 94.6% (35/37) in Tiaoshen group and 75.0% (27/36) in routine group. There was significant difference between the two groups ( χ2=6.125, P=0.011). The NDI in Tiaoshen group was significantly lower than that of routine group ( t=3.038, P=0.003). The scores of interference domain, control domain, food and beverage domain and sleep disturbance domain in Tiaoshen group were significantly higher than those in routine group ( t=3.096, 2.460, 2.225, 2.732, P<0.05); the TCM Syndrome Score in Tiaoshen group was significantly lower than that of routine group ( t=3.241, P=0.002), and that of HAMD-24 was significantly lower than that of routine group ( t=2.767, P=0.007). Conclusion:Treatment based on Tiaoshen theory can improve the quality of life of FD patients in the fields of interference, control, food and beverage and sleep disturbance, and reduce the patients’depression.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture in treating herpes zoster.Method Ninety patients with herpes zoster were randomized into treatment group 1, treatment group 2, and a control group, 30 cases in each group. Treatment group 1 was intervened by surround needling at Ashi points (deep needling, by 33 mm) plus electroacupuncture; treatment group 2 was by surround needling at Ashi points (superficial needling by 16 mm) plus electroacupuncture; the control group was by oral administration of Valacyclovir Hydrochloride tablets plus Vitamin B1. After 10-day treatment, the blister-breaking time, crust-forming time, and the time of falling-off of the crust, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were observed, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result The recovery rate and total effective rate were respectively 73.3% and 93.3% in treatment group 1, versus 46.7% and 86.7% in treatment group 2, and 33.3% and 63.3% in the control group. The recovery rate of treatment group 1 was significantly different from that of treatment group 2 and the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05). The total effective rates of treatment group 1 and 2 were both significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05). The blister-breaking time, crust-forming time, and crust falling-off time of treatment group 1 were significantly different from that of treatment group 2 and the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05). The crust-forming time and falling-off time of treatment group 2 were significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.05). The VAS scores were markedly changed after the intervention in the three groups (P<0.01). After the treatment, the VAS scores of treatment group 1 and 2 were significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.01). The VAS score of treatment group 1 was markedly different from that of treatment group 2 after the treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture is an effective method in treating herpes zoster, while deep surround needling at Ashi points plus electroacupuncture can effectively inhibit the development of blisters, promote crust-forming, release the neural pain, and reduce the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy and onset time between Tiao Ren An Shen (regulating Conception Vessel and soothing mind) needling method and conventional acupoint selection for peri-menopausal depression, for providing theoretical evidence for the application of Tiao Ren An Shen needling method. Method Sixty patients with peri-menopausal depression aged 45~55 years were randomized into two groups after admission to hospital. In addition to oral administration of Fluoxetine, one group was intervened by Tiao Ren An Shen needling method (treatment group, n=30), and the other group was by conventional acuppoint selection (control group, n=30). Before treatment, and at 2nd, 4th, and 6th week after treatment, Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) was investigated, Kupperman index and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome score were evaluated before and after intervention. The therapeutic efficacy was estimated at the end of the 6th week. Result After intervention, the HAMD and TCM syndrome score were significantly improved in both groups (P0.05). Compared to the control group, the improvements of depression degree and peri-menopausal symptoms were more significant in the treatment group (P<0.05). The total effective rate was 93.3% in the treatment group versus 70.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared to conventional acupoint selection, Tiao Ren An Shen method can produce a more efficient effect and a higher long-term efficacy, not only improving the emotional state and easing depression, but also releasing vegetative nerve functional disturbance. As it can improve the TCM symptoms, treating both causes and manifestations, promoting the quality of life of peri-menopausal patients, this method is an effective approach.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of warm needling on learning and memory abilities and the calmodulin kinaseⅡ (CaMKⅡ) content of prefrontal cortex area in morphine withdrawal rats andexplore the mechanism of its action. Methods Forty clean-grade male SD rats were randomly allocated to control, model, manual needling and warm needling groups, 10rats each. A SD rat model of morphine addiction and withdrawal was made by dorsal subcutaneous injection of day-by-day incremental morphine and rapid withdrawal with Naloxone after addiction. Learning and memory abilities were tested using a Morris water maze and the CaMKⅡ content of prefrontal cortex area was measured by an immunohistochemical method in every group of rats. Results There were statistically significant differences in mean platform escape latency, the number of platform crossing and the CaMKⅡ content of PFC area between the control, manual needling or warm needling group of rats and the model group (P<0.01). There were statistically significant differences in mean platform escape latency, the number of platform crossing and the CaMKⅡ content of PFC area between the warm needling and manual needling groups (P<0.05).Conclusions Warm needling treatment can restore learning and memory abilities in morphine withdrawal rats. The mechanism of its action may be related to an increase in the CaMKⅡ content of prefrontal cortex area.
