ABSTRACT

Experimental research on male infertility is critical to the study of the pathogenesis of male infertility and the evaluation of drug therapy. This paper reviewed animal experiments on male infertility in recent years. The experimental models of male infertility mainly include oligoasthenozoospermia (OA),teratozoospermia, azoospermia, and varicocele animal models. The OA animal models are mostly induced by glycosides of Tripterygium wilfordii (GTW), adenine, hydrocortisone, and radiation, which are mainly chemical means. The animal models of azoospermia were usually constructed by intraperitoneal injection of bissulfonyl alkylating agent busulfan and immersion of scrotum in 43 ℃ water. There are few studies on animal models of teratozoospermia, and the induction methods by GTW and methyl methanesulfonate(MMS) are common. The animal models of varicocele-caused infertility are usually induced by operation. The ligation of the middle division of the left renal vein between the lateral inferior vena cava and the medial spermatic vein has a significant influence on testicular morphology and epididymal sperm quality. Animal experimental studies have shown that classic prescriptions for tonifying the kidney and promoting spermatogenesis represented by Wuzi Yanzongwan and clinical empirical prescriptions by modern research have played a significant role in the treatment of male infertility. The mechanism of tonifying the kidney in the treatment of male infertility mainly focuses on inhibiting spermatogenic cell apoptosis. The kidney-tonifying method can regulate the apoptosis of spermatogenic cells, which provides a new treatment idea and a reliable scientific basis for traditional Chinese medicine in the field of male reproduction.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the polymorphism of human cytomegalovius UL143 gene of low passage clinical isolates in Guangzhou,China.Method PCR was performed to amplify the entire HCMV ULl43 gene region of 3 clinical isolates, which had been proven by multiplex PCR.The amplification products were cloned into pMD18-T-Vector and subjected to sequencing. The result of DNA sequences were analyzed together with the one of published homologous sequences in GenBank from 14 clinical isolates.Result There were several stop codons in UL143 gene due to a base deletion in open reading frame (ORF) of D3 isolate, which could lead to produce non-functional protein.UL143 ORF of Toledo isolate consisted of 279 nueleotides, encoding a protein with 92 amino acids.UL143 ORFs of other isolates consisted of 252 nueleotides, encoding a protein with 83 amino acids. The DNA sequences were quite conserved and all the variations were base substitution. The amino acid sequences of different isolates were highly conserved.with variation of 1.2%-2.4%.There were no additional or deleted sites of post translational modification of UL143 protein in all clinical isolates except Toledo isolate. There were some differences in the secondary structure among different isolates. The isoelectric point of UL143 protein of all clinical isolates except Toledo isolate was 8.75.Conclusion All DNA and deduced amino acid sequences of UL143 gene shared great similarity among HCMV clinical strains regardless of their polymorphism.

ABSTRACT

Chinese traditional surgery, an important branch of traditional Chinese medicine, has contributed greatly to the people's health in the history. With the fast development of modern medicine, Chinese traditional surgery is faced with serious challenges and its shortcomings have appeared more and more evident. In this article, the authors analyzed some problems in the development of Chinese traditional surgery and the opportunities for its further development, and suggested that the superiorities of Chinese traditional surgery should be enhanced in its future development.

ABSTRACT

The present article reviews the progress in the experimental studies of traditional Chinese medicine for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the recent years. Traditional Chinese medicine can inhibit prostatic hyperplasia, after the growth factor of prostate cell proliferation, regulate nerves and endocrine, and act on the kinetic factor (alpha-receptor) and static factor (augmented prostate) of BPH formation. We also investigate the selection of the animal model of prostatic hyperplasia. It has certain directive effect to further discover the action mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of BPH.
