ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and availability of one-stage treatment for congenital lacrimal fistula combined with blepharoplasty and epicanthoplasty. Methods:From November 2014 to March 2021, 6 female patients with congenital lacrimal fistula and epicanthus were treated in the 2nd Department of Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences/Peking Union Medical College, aged 12-32 years (mean 24 years), including 5 unilateral lacrimal fistula and 1 bilateral. Results:During 3 to 40 months (mean 18 months) of follow-up, the ocular appearances were improved notably and the fistulas were removed completely. There was no secondary infection or cyst occurred, and no ectropion, traction or other deformities. The position of canthus was normal and the shape of canthus was good. The scars in the operation area were inconspicuous. Conclusions:Fistulectomy combined with blepharoplasty and epicanthoplasty can excise congenital lacrimal fistula effectively while improving the ocular appearance by this procedure.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To establish an improved mouse model of valproic acid (VPA)-induced autism that better mimics human autism.@*METHODS@#We established mouse models of autism in female C57 mice by intraperitoneal injection of sodium valproate either at a single dose (600 mg/kg) on day 12.5 after conception (conventional group) or in two doses of 300 mg/kg each on days 10 and 12 after conception (modified group), and the control mice were injected with saline only on day 12.5. The responses of the mice to VPA injection, the uterus, mortality rate, and abortion rate were compared among the 3 groups. The morphology and development of the offspring mice were assessed, and their behavioral ontogeny was evaluated using 3- chambered social test, social test, juvenil play test, and open field test.@*RESULTS@#The mortality and abortion rates were significantly lower in the modified model group than in the conventional group ( < 0.01). Compared with those in the control group, the offspring mice in both the conventional group and the modified group showed developmental disorders ( < 0.05). The mortality rate of the newborn mice was significantly lower in the modified group than in the conventional group with a rate of curvy tail of up to 100% ( < 0.001). The offspring mice in both the modified group and conventional group exhibited autism-like behavioral abnormalities, including social disorder and repetitive stereotyped behavior ( < 0.05).@*CONCLUSIONS@#The mouse model of autism established using the modified method better mimics human autism with reduced mortality and abortion rates of the pregnant mice and also decreased mortality rate of the newborn mice.

ABSTRACT

Trimethoprim molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared as the coating of stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and applied to the trace analysis of trimethoprim and three sulfonamides in complex samples. The MIP-coating was about 21.5 μm thickness with the relative standard deviations (RSD) of 5.9% (n=10).It was homogeneous and dense with good thermal and chemical stability. The extraction capability of the MIP-coating was 1.7 times over that of the non imprinted polymer (NIP) coating. The MIP coating exhibited selective adsorption ability to sulfonamides, triazines and methotrexate besides antibacterial synergists. The methods for the determination of trimethoprim and three sulfonamides by MIP-coated stir bar sorptive extraction coupled with HPLC were developed. It was successfully applied to the trace trimethoprim analysis in spiked urine and plasma samples. The linear range was 5 to 200 μg/L and the detection limit was 1.6 μg/L.The recoveries in urine and plasma samples were 84.5% to 91.7% with RSDs of 2.9% -4.4%,71.9% to 85.1% with RSDs of 3.0% -7.3%,respectively.The trimethoprim MIP-coated stir bar was also applied to the trace sulfonamides analysis in spiked milk sample. The linear range was 10-200 μg/L,the detection limit was within the range of 4.5-6.1 μg/L,and the recovery was 83.2% - 110.2% with RSDs of 4.1% -8.0%.
