ABSTRACT

Activation of inflammatory responses regulates the transmission of pain pathways through an integrated network in the peripheral and central nervous systems. The immunopotentiator thymosin alpha-1 (Tα1) has recently been reported to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective functions in rodents. However, how Tα1 affects inflammatory pain remains unclear. In the present study, intraperitoneal injection of Tα1 attenuated complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA)-induced pain hypersensitivity, and decreased the up-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) in inflamed skin and the spinal cord. We found that CFA-induced peripheral inflammation evoked strong microglial activation, but the effect was reversed by Tα1. Notably, Tα1 reversed the CFA-induced up-regulation of vesicular glutamate transporter (VGLUT) and down-regulated the vesicular γ-aminobutyric acid transporter (VGAT) in the spinal cord. Taken together, these results suggest that Tα1 plays a therapeutic role in inflammatory pain and in the modulation of microglia-induced pro-inflammatory cytokine production in addition to mediation of VGLUT and VGAT expression in the spinal cord.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effect of plant Coleus forskohlii active elements Isoforskolin(ISOF)and CT-E(analogs mixture of Isoforskolin)on human neutrophill(PMN)in vitro in order to uncover the mechanism of their properties of mitigating acute lung injury(ALI).Method The effects of ISOF and CF-E on PMN aggregation induced by N-formyl-methiony-leucyl-phenylalanine(fMLP)was performed by using a 4-channel platelet aggregometer.Cytometry Was applied to analyze the effect of tested samples on adhension between PMN and endothelial cells(ECV-304)activated by using lipopolysaccharides(LPS).Expression of LPS-induced PMN adhension molecules was determined with flow cytometry.Radioimmunoassay Was applied to detect the level of TNT-α liberated bv PMN and intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP)level of PMN.Results It was found that ISOF(25,50,100 μmnol/L)and CF-E(1.25,2.5,5 mg/ml)inhibitted PMN aggregation induced by fMLP,PMN adhemion to ECV-304 indeed by LPS,expression of PMN adhesion molecules, and TNF-α level released by PMN.ISOF and CF-E also increased intracellular cAMP level of PMN.Condusions ISOF and CF-E inhibit PMN aggregation, adhension and adhension molecules, and TNF-α released by PMN,while they increase intracellular cAniP level of PMN.It suggests that their specific alleviating the ALI by the mechanism of the modulation of PMN function.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the method and effect of the combination treatment based on the minimally invasive surgery and radioactive seeds brachytherapy for lung cancer. Methods Entered the study there were 12 cases of lung cancer (4 cases of primary lung cancer, 3 cases of recurrent lung cancer, and 5 cases of metastatic lung cancer) between November 2001 and February 2002. All the 12 patients received thoracoscopic mini operations, including 5 cases of local wedge-shaped tumor resection combined with seeds implantation, 3 cases of radio frequency thermaerotherapy combined with seeds implantation, 3 cases of percutaneous radio frequency with seeds implantation, and 1 case of seeds implantation only. Postoperative combination treatment was conducted in accordance with the patient's general condition. Results All the patients were followed for (12~30) months. The local control rate in the study was 83%, and the survival time was more than 1 year. Two patients expired in the 18th and 21st postoperative months, respectively. No decreases of the white blood cell and platelet took place. Conclusions The combination treatment based on minimally invasive surgery and radioactive seeds brachytherapy provides high local control rate, high life quality and satisfactory survival time.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the clinicoradiologic significance of C sign. Methods 773 cases of standard ankle CR radiographs were presented for diagnosis of acute trauma and ankle pain. There were 565 males and 208 females, ages ranged from 10 to 81. There were 630 cases of acute trauma and 143 cases of painful ankle. C sign incidence, C sign figuration, distance of the medial facet of talocalcaneal joint, and the figuration of sustentaculum tali were studied. The relationship between C sign and talocalcaneal coalition was analysed. Results The incidence of C sign was 54.6%(422/773). The female incidence was 61.1%(127/208) ,which was more than that of male(52.2%,295/565)(P

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the incidence and radiologic findings of calcaneonavicular coalition. Methods CR films of foot andankle in 1361 cases were presented, which were evaluated for acute trauma or chronic pain. There were 588 cases of foot CR and 773 cases of ankle CR,age ranged from 10 years to 91 years(984 cases of 20~40 years). The prevalence of calcaneonavicular coalition was determined and the different significance of both male and female, acute trauma and chronic pain group were analysed. Results In 1361 cases,72 cases of calcaneonavicular coalition(5.3%) were demonstrated,8.7%(47/588)on foot CR films and 3.2%(25/773) on ankle CR films.Calcaneonavicular coalition was more dipicted on foot CR films than on ankle CR films(P0.05).Conclusion The foot CR films is more superexcellent than the ankle CR films on demonstrating calcaneonavicular coalition.

ABSTRACT

20 years)was 8.60%(48/558) , which was more than that in the second decade of life ( 5.22% ). The incidence of painful group was 9.79%(14/143),which was more than that in foot trauma group 6.78%(40/630).The positive C sign was presented in 61.1%(33/54),posterior-type coalition in 38.9%(21/54),short talar neck sign in 61.1%(33/54)and talar beak sign in 22.2%(12/54). Conclusion The talocalcaneal coalition is a common development abnormality in our country. We must pay attention to the diagnosis of talocalcaneal coalition for painful foot adulthood.
