ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the relationship between anemia and neuropsychological development in various domains among preschool children in China.@*Methods@#Data came from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children in China, and 3 261 preschool children aged 2-6 years and their parents from 28 sites across 14 provinces were recruited in this study. Parental and child characteristics were obtained by interview administrated questionnaires. Blood hemoglobin(Hb) concentration was determined by Hemocue method. Neuropsychological development quotients were assessed using the Development Scale for Children Aged 0-6 Years(WS/T 580-2017).@*Results@#The average Hb level was (125.23±11.49)g/L and the overall anemia prevalence was 10.30% among preschool children. After adjusting the confounding factors(sex, age, ethnicity, region, feeding mode, maternal status during pregnancy, etc), developmental quotients of gross motor( β=-2.15, 95%CI =-3.89--0.41), fine motor( β=-2.46, 95%CI =-4.12--0.79), adaptive behavior( β=-2.59, 95%CI =-4.42--0.76), language( β=-3.65, 95%CI =-5.53--1.78), personal social behavior( β=-3.11, 95%CI =-4.94--1.28) and full scale( β=-2.79, 95%CI =-4.10--1.49) among children with anemia were significantly lower than non anemic infants( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Anemia was negatively associated with developmental quotient, as well as five domains of gross motor, fine motor, adaptive behavior, language, and personal social behavior in preschool children aged 2-6 years. It is suggested to carry out the work of anemia monitoring and intervention in preschool children to further improve their neuropsychological development.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the changes of molecular markers of thrombosis in patients with deep venous thrombosis of lower extremities and analyze their value in the detection of venous thrombosis and evaluate the therapeutic effects. @*Methods@#In case-control study, we selected traumatic patients after surgery from Beijing Jishuitan Hospital during December 2018 to May 2019. A total of 64 patients with thrombosis were in DVT group, 39 patients without thrombosis were in non-DVT group, and 28 healthy subjects in the same period were in healthy control group. Venous blood samples were taken from all these people. Coagulation parameters thrombin-antithrombin complexes (TAT), plasmin-α2-plasmin inhibitor complexes (PIC) and tissue-type plasminogen activator-inhibitor complexes (t-PAIC) were detected at first diagnosis and one month after rivaroxaban anticoagulation therapy beginning. The differences of the markers between these groups were compared. @*Results@#The coagulation markers of the patients with lower extremity deep venous thrombosis increased significantly at diagnosis. The levels of plasma TAT, PIC, t-PAIC and sTM in DVT group were significantly higher than those in non-DVT group (P<0.05). The levels of plasma TAT, PIC and t-PAIC in DVT group were higher than those in healthy control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in sTM level between DVT group and healthy control group (P>0.05). The results and changes of TAT, PIC, t-PAIC in the patients before and after one month of anticoagulation therapy were statistically different (P<0.05) in comparison. @*Conclusion@#The molecular markers of thrombosis, TAT, PIC and t-PAIC, could effectively detect deep venous thrombosis of lower extremities and showed significant efficacy in evaluating the efficacy of anticoagulation therapy.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To evaluate the predictive value of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived parameters on the improvement of left ventricular function in patients with acute viral myocarditis.@*Methods@#Forty patients, who referred for acute viral myocarditis in our hospital from September 2011 to September 2015, were prospectively enrolled in this study. All patients were examined by CMR during hospitalization for acute viral myocarditis (baseline) and after 12 months. The CMR sequences include: two dimension steady state free precession, 2D SSFP; triple inversion recovery, triple IR; early gadolinium enhancement; phase sensitive inversion recovery turbo field echo, PSIR TFE.@*Results@#Thirty out of 40 patients with susceptive acute viral myocarditis met the CMR criteria of acute viral myocarditis (Lake Louise Criteria) (LL+ ) and the other 10 patients did not meet the diagnostic criteria (LL-). Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) values were significantly lower in LL+ group than in LL- group at baseline and at 12 months after discharge (P<0.01 or 0.05, respectively). The baseline left ventricular end-systolic volume index (LVESVI) was significantly higher in LL+ group than in LL- group (P<0.05) and was similar between the groups at 12 months follow up.Left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI )was similar between the two groups at baseline and at 12 months follow up.LVEF was significantly higher during 12 months follow up compared to baseline in LL+ group and remained unchanged in LL- group during the two time points.LVESVI and LVEDVI remained unchanged at baseline and during 12 months follow up both in LL+ and LL- groups (P>0.05). Results showed that LL+ , edema ratio (ER) positive and global relative enhancement (gRE) positive were associated with significant increase of LVEF at 12 months follow up.However, LL-, ER negative, gRE negative, late gadolinium enhancement(LGE) negative and LGE positive linked with unchanged LVEF at 12 months follow up (P>0.05). Patients were further divided into LVEF increase (ΔLVEF≥5%) group and non LVEF increase group (ΔLVEF<5%), the results of Chi-square test showed that LL+ and ER positive were related to the improvement of LVEF (P<0.05), while gRE and LGE were not associated with improvement of cardiac function (P>0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis, using ER, gRE and LGE as independent variables and LVEF as dependent variables, showed that the presence of myocardial edema was the strongest independent predictor of an increase in LVEF at follow up (full model: non-standardized coefficient 0.445, P=0.043; reduced model: non-standardized coefficient 0.442, P=0.12).@*Conclusion@#Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging monitoring is valuable to observe the cardiac function and morphology changes in patients with acute viral myocarditis, and myocardial edema imaging is the most powerful parameter to predict the improvement of LVEF in this patient cohort.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the correlation of the occurrence and prognosis of coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSF) with blood homocysteine (Hcy) levels in patients receiving emergency percutaneous coronary intervention therapy (PCI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From January, 2010 to December, 2011, 138 patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction received emergency angioplasty, among whom 46 patients developed CSF and 92 did not (control group). Blood Hcy levels were determined in these patients. The patients with CSF were classified into two groups with mild and moderate Hcy elevations (32 and 14 cases, respectively), and the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) during hospitalization and at 3 months of follow-up as well as major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were compared between the two groups and analyzed for their association with Hcy level.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The patients with CSF showed significantly higher blood Hcy levels than the control patients (P=0.001). At 3 months of follow-up, the patients with CSF and moderate Hcy elevation had significantly lower LVEF (P=0.031) and higher incidence of MACE (P=0.019) than those with mild Hcy elevation. Hcy levels were negatively correlated with LVEF (r=-0.310, P=0.036) and positively with MACE (r=0.342, P=0.02).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>A high blood Hcy level is closely correlated with the occurrence of CSF in emergency PCI, affects the recovery of LVEF and increases the incidence of MACE.</p>

ABSTRACT

AIM Here the development of a simple, rapid and simultaneous method for the separation of five ephedrine alkaloids obtained with non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis (NACE) were reported. The effects of the electrolyte, non-aqueous solvent on the separation were also discussed. METHODS A running buffer of 50 mmol/L ammonium acetate in methanol was found to be the most suitable for this separation. RESULT The best separation was achieved within 8 minutes. CONCLUSION The separation is not only dependent on differences in the pK value of the alkaloids but also on the intramolecular interaction and solvation. So much improved selectivity could be achieved in nonaqueous medium.
