ABSTRACT

Objective@#To identify the characteristics including clinical features and pulmonary computed tomography (CT) features of heart failure and novel coronavirus pneumonia(COVID-19).@*Methods@#This study was a retrospective study. A total of 7 patients with Heart failure and 12 patients with COVID-19 in the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University between December 1, 2019 and February 15, 2020 were enrolled. The baseline clinical and imaging features of the two groups were statistically analyzed.@*Results@#There was no significant difference in age and sex between the two groups, but the incidence of epidemiological contact history, fever or respiratory symptoms in the COVID-19 group was significantly higher than that in the heart failure group (12/12 vs. 2/7, P=0.001; 12/12 vs. 4/7, P<0.001). While the proportion of cardiovascular diseases and impaired cardiac function was significantly less than that of the heart failure group(2/12 vs.7/7, P<0.001; 0/12 vs.7/7, P<0.001). For imaging features, both groups had ground-glass opacity and thickening of interlobular septum, but the ratio of central and gradient distribution was higher in patients with heart failure than that in patients with COVID-19 (4/7 vs. 1/12, P=0.04). In heart failure group, the ratio of the expansion of small pulmonary veins was also higher (3/7 vs. 0, P=0.013), and the lung lesions can be significantly improved after effective anti-heart failure treatment. Besides, there are more disease with rounded morphology in COVID-19 (9/12 vs. 2/7, P=0.048) .@*Conclusions@#More patients with COVID-19 have epidemiological history and fever or respiratory symptoms. There are significant differences in chest CT features, such as enlargement of pulmonary veins, lesions distribution and morphology between heart failure and COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the influence of N-acetylcysteine on forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1), vital capacity(VC), diffusion capacity of lung carbon monoxide(DLCO), arterial oxygen partial pressure(PaO2) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and pulmonary interstitial fibrosis.@*Methods@#From January 2015 to July 2017, 140 COPD patients complicated with pulmonary interstitial fibrosis in the People's Hospital of Shanxi Province were chosen as study objects, and they were divided into control group and research group according to the digital table, with 70 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine treatment, while the research group was treated with N-acetylcysteine.After treatment, the treatment effects, VC, FEV1, PaO2, DLCO, TGF-β and VEGF between the two groups were compared.@*Results@#The total effective rate of the research group was 82.86%(58/70), which of the control group was 58.57%(41/70), the difference was statistically significant (χ2=9.968, P<0.05). Before treatment, the pulmonary function between the two groups had no statistically significant difference(t=0.082, 0.028, 0.421, 0.155, all P>0.05). After treatment, the FEV1[(59.03±15.02)% vs.(53.35±13.71)%], VC[(69.95±11.83)% vs.(65.21±11.65)%], DLCO[(68.92±11.56)% vs.(64.01±11.34)%] and PaO2[(68.79±5.38)mmHg vs.(62.37±6.14)mmHg]of the research group were higher than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (t=2.337, 2.389, 2.537, 6.580, all P<0.05). Before treatment, the TGF-β and VEGF levels between the two groups had no statistically significant differences(t=1.230, 0.016, all P>0.05). After treatment, the VEGF[(0.32±0.04)ng/L vs.(0.44±0.05)ng/L] and TGF-β[(271.16±35.21)ng/L vs.(345.13±39.08)ng/L] levels of the research group were lower than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (t=11.765, 15.680, all P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence rate of adverse reactions between the two groups(1.43% vs 4.28%, χ2=2.323, P>0.05).@*Conclusion@#Large dose of N-acetylcysteine can effectively improve the TGF-β and VEGF levels of COPD patients complicated with pulmonary interstitial fibrosis, and promote its pulmonary function, with good safety.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To examine the oral health status among the orphan children and adolescents of Chongqing and assist in planning of the oral health programs.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>According to the third national oral health investigation of epidemiology, the dental caries, gingival bleeding and calculus was examined among 317 orphan living in Chongqing, by cluster sampling. The statistical software SPSS 17.0 was used for the data analysis.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>In primary and permanent teeth, the prevalence of dental caries and mean DMFT (dmft) were found to be 50.00%, 1.94 +/- 2.81 and 39.53%, 0.90 +/- 1.38. There were no significant difference between female and male (P>0.05). But there was significant difference of the prevalence of permanent tooth caries between the age group under 12 (include 12) and above 12 (P < 0.05). It was also found that 35.25% of the orphan children and adolescents had caries in the first permanent molar, and there was significant difference between female and male (P < 0.05). Neither of the caries teeth above was treated nor the healthy teeth were sealed. The prevalence rate of gingival bleeding was 78.22%, and the calculus rate was 67.66%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The oral status of the orphan is poor, and this community has experienced a low utilization of preventive or therapeutic oral health services. In the future work, orphans should be considered as a priority group when make plans for oral health care.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the effect of preoperative transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE) on apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 136 patients with HCC underwent liver resection. One to five courses of TACE prior to liver resection were performed in 79 patients (TACE group), in which one to four courses of chemotherapy alone were performed in 11 patients (group A), one to five courses of chemotherapy combined with iodized oil were performed in 33 patients (group B), one to three courses of chemotherapy combined with iodized oil and gelatin sponge were performed in 23 patients group C) and one to three courses of chemotherapy combined with iodized oil, ethanol and gelatin sponge were performed in 12 patients (group D). The other 57 patients only received liver resection (non-TACE group). The extent of apoptosis was analyzed by transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. The expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax protein were detected by immunohistochemical method.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The apoptotic index(AI) and level of Bax protein in HCC cells were significantly higher in groups A, B, C and D than those in the non-TACE group (P < 0.05). The level of Bcl-2 protein and ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax protein of HCC cells were significantly lower in Groups A, B, C and D than those in the non-TACE group (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Preoperative TACE regimens may enhance apoptosis of HCC cells by up-regulating the expression of Bax protein and down-regulating the expression of Bcl-2 protein and ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax protein expression.</p>
