ABSTRACT

Spiritual health is one of the most important social - cultural factors that may predict mental health. The main purpose of this study was to assess association between mental health and spiritual health among students in Shiraz University. A descriptive-correlational design was used for the study. The study was conducted in 2012. A total number of 474 students [237 female and 237 male] were recruited in this study using a cluster sampling method. Data were collected using Goldberg's Mental Health Questionnaire and Pulutzyn and Ellison spiritual health questionnaires. Data were analyzed by SPSSI6 software and two categories of descriptive and inferential statistical methods correlation and regression and t- tests. The results of the study indicated that there is a significant relationship between mental health and spiritual health scores in both sexes [P<001]. Variable of spiritual health, can predict 70 percent mental health in female and male. T-test results showed that there is a difference between the means of spiritual health in boys and girls [p< 0105]. Changings in the educational system and paying attention to mental health and spiritual health to meet the needs of students may be necessary. There is a need for further applied research for testing interventions to promote mental health and spiritual health students

ABSTRACT

Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common and costly occupational injuries. Musculoskeletal disorders represent a significant occupational problem among nurses. The aim of current study was to determine behavioral factors related to musculoskeletal disorders among nurses by using the theory of planned behavior. A cross-sectional study was carried out among nurses in hospitals of Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2011. A total number of 264 registered nurses with working experience at least one year, and different shifts were included in the study. A reliable and valid questionnaire based on the theory of planned behavior and Nordic was used for data gathering. Data were analyzed using statistical software SPSS for windows V. 16 Independent t-test, chi-square, Mann - Whitney and Pearson correlation tests were used for testing the correlations among variables. The study showed that 47. 5% of nurses in the past 12 months and 36. 2% during the past 7 days have suffered from musculoskeletal disorders. The most work-related disorders were in the low back and neck. Also statistically significant difference was found between the mean scores of the constructs of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and behavioral intention in nurses with and without musculoskeletal disorders. Musculoskeletal disorder rate still is high in nurses and attention and action is needed to improve nurses' health. Theory of planned behavior is effective at identifying behavioral and attitudinal factors related to the correct ergonomic principles in the through working position

ABSTRACT

Although cesarean section is the preferred mode of delivery for some mothers ,the rate of cesarean section deliveries has increased to more than 50 percent in some countries. While the World Health Organization has emphasized, cesarean section be performed only based on the indication. This study will assesses the causes and factors influenced on choosing the delivery method in pregnant women referred to Public Hospitals in Shiraz. A descriptive design was used to assess factors related to mothers' decisions about mode of delivery. Using a cluster random sampling method, a total number of 417 Pregnant women admitted to hospitals in Shiraz were included in the study. Data were collected by a questionnaire and interview. Data were analyzed by Chi-square, and fisher exact test with using SPSS software. The results showed significant relation among factors Urbanity, Infant health status, Concern about genital injuries, Spouse views and Willingness to cesarean with choice of cesarean [p<0/05]. Due to significant positive attitude of women's towards the cesarean, rather than normal delivery, it is necessary to inform them about the advantages of normal delivery and health hazard which might cause by Cesarean to the mother and child. The change of women's Knowledge and attitude about cesarean is needed to avoid further complication

ABSTRACT

Congenital hypothyroidisrn causes irreversible, irreparable damage and lifelong complications such as mental retardation. Using the Health Belief Model questionnaire, this study aimed to determine the effect of a health education program on mother's participation for neonatal hypothyroidisrn screening program. In the current interventional study, 46 pregnant women from three Health-medicine centers were randomly assigned to an intervention group and 46 pregnant women from three other health centers were assigned to the control group. The Health Belief Model questionnaire assessed perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and cues to action. For measuring the scientific validity of the designed tool, there was an expert panel, and for reliability we used Cronbach's Alpha. This questionnaire was completed by both groups before educational intervention. The educational intervention consisted of 4 educational sessions, implemented for the intervention group. After the training, the questionnaire was completed again by both groups. Data analyzed with SPPS software using chi-square and ANCOVA. There were statistically significant deferencse between the two groups regarding the perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits and cues to action scores after the training sessions [p<0.001]. The difference in mean barrier scores of the two groups was not statistically significant after the training sessions [p=0.16]. Timely referral by mothers for neonatal hypothyroidisrn screening was higher in the intervention group [p<0.001].The study indicated that educational programs based on Health Belief Model assessment are effective in timely participation of mothers for neonatal screening and its use is strongly recommended in screening programs
