ABSTRACT
Swabs from the discharge inside 74 operative specimens of chronically inflamed lacrymal sacs, and from 74 conjunctival sacs on the same side, were subjected to complete bacteriologic study. Results showed no growth in 40 lacrymal sacs- Different isolates were found in 34 cases. The most prevalent one was Alkaligenes faecalis 10.9%, followed by Pseudomonas pyocyanea 9.5% Then other isolates of lesser frequency. Conjunctival sac swabs showed no growth in 33 cases, while different isolates were obtained from 41 cases. The most prevalent isolate was Staphylococcus epidermides, 18.9%, followed by Streptococus veridans, 13.5% then other microorganisms of lesser frequency
