ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of Kangfuxin solution combined with Almagate suspension on the complication of gastroscope biopsy. Method:Totally 276 cases of chronic superficial gastritis gastroscope biopsy were divided into treatment group and control group randomly. Treatment group was treated by Kangfuxin solution combined with Almagate suspension, while the control group was given no precautionary measures as usual. Then the patients received the abdominal symptom score and fecal occult blood test(FOBT)after 1 week. Result:The cases with abdominal pain, burning sensation and stool occult blood in the control group were more than the treatment group significantly(P<0.05). The patients' abdominal symptom score in control group was higher than that before the gastroscope biopsy, and that was lower in treatment group(P<0.05). And the patients' abdominal symptom score of the control group was significantly higher than that of the treatment group after the gastroscope biopsy(P<0.05). Compared with the Helicobacter pylori(HP)-infected subgroup, the incidences of early satiety and ventosity in the control group were higher than those of the treatment group(P<0.05). The abdominal symptom score of the patients infected with helicobacter pylori(HP)in control group was significantly higher than that before the gastroscope biopsy and in the treatment group(P<0.05). Conclusion:Kangfuxin solution combined with Almagate suspension is safe and effective in preventing complications of gastroscope biopsy, especially for patients infected with HP. The method could avoid exacerbating clinical symptoms.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDCleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is an autosomal dominant disease that affects the skeletal system. Common symptoms of CCD include hypoplasia or aplasia of the clavicles, delayed or even absent closure of the fontanels, midface hypoplasia, short stature, and delayed eruption of permanent and supernumerary teeth. Previous studies reported a connection between CCD and the haploinsufficiency of runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2). Here, we report a sporadic Chinese case presenting typical symptoms of CCD.

METHODSWe made genetic testing on this sporadic Chinese case and identified a novel RUNX2 frameshift mutation: c.1111dupT. In situ immunofluorescence microscopy and osteocalcin promoter luciferase assay were performed to compare the functions of the RUNX2 mutation with those of wild-type RUNX2.

RESULTSRUNX2 mutation was observed in the perinuclear region, cytoplasm, and nuclei. In contrast, wild-type RUNX2 was confined in the nuclei, which indicated that the subcellular compartmentalization of RUNX2 mutation was partially perturbed. The transactivation function on osteocalcin promoter of the RUNX2 mutation was obviously abrogated.

CONCLUSIONSWe identified a sporadic CCD patient carrying a novel insertion/frameshift mutation of RUNX2. This finding expanded our understanding of CCD-related phenotypes.

ABSTRACT

Issues related to the nicotine content of tobacco have been public concerns.Several reports have described decreasing nicotine levels by silencing the putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT) genes, but the reported variations of nicotine levels among transgenic lines are relatively low in general. Here we describe the generation in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) lines with widely different, reduced nicotine levels using three kinds of RNA-silencing approaches. The relative efficacies of suppression were compared among the three approaches regarding the aspect of nicotine level in tobacco leaves.By suppressing expression of the PMT genes, over 200 transgenic lines were obtained with nicotine levels reduced by 9.1-96.7%. RNA interference (RNAi) was the most efficient method of reducing the levels of nicotine, whereas cosuppression and antisense methods were less effective. This report gives clues to the efficient generation of plants with a variety of metabolite levels, and the results demonstrate the relative efficiencies of various RNA-silencing methods.

ABSTRACT

Objective To find out the relationship of ecological environment protection and the transmission of Lyme disease under economic development of western regions in China. Methods Both scene molecular and traditional epidemiological methods were used to assess the effects of environmental protection on the transmission of Lyme disease. Results Among areas as protected natural forests, semiprotected nursery forests and farmland, the vector tick species and reservoir rodents from protected natural forests area had the highest quantity of population and diversity index and followed by semi-protected nursery forests.Vector competence of reservoir hosts and value of natural foci from protected natural forests area were also remarkably higher than those areas of semi-protected nursery forests and farmland. Staff working in the areas who were bitten by ticks from protected natural forests areas had higher serological Dositive rate(66.7%)than those from semi-protected nursery forests areas(2.5%),and both showed remarkable difference(P=6.45,E-11<0.01,df=1).The difference of genetic divergence among these subpoPulations from different habitats being surveyed showed that the biggest genetic divergence index (Fst)of 0.557 42 was between protected natural forests area and farmland area. The index between semiprotected nursery forests area and farmland area was also bigger than zero with statistical significance. The genetic divergence index of 0.108 02 between semi-protected nursery forests area and protected natural forests area was the lowest which showed that genetic divergence between the subpopulations of the two sampling areas was not obvious. The genetic distance among these subpopulations had similar change along with their habitats. Conclusion Under economic development of western regions in China, when programs as natural forests protections, recovery prairie and grassland from farmland were actively performed, vectors insects and reservoir hosts of Lyme disease might also be protected to some degree but the risk and value of natural foci on Lyme disease might increase.Data suggested that people entering these areas should be told to strengthen their awareness on individual protection against the disease.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate whether there is difference with regard to chin morphology in subjects with different vertical skeletal craniofacial pattern and the relationship among them.

METHODSThe sample was composed of 80 adolescents who denied orthodontic treatment history and presented Class I skeletal pattern, aged (12.69+/-0.70) years. They were divided into three groups according to mandibular plane angle: High angle group (21 cases, FH/MP> or = 32 degrees), average angle group(43 cases, 22 degrees <FH/MP<32 degrees) and low angle group(16 cases, FH/MP < or = 22 degrees). Cepholagrams were taken and cepholametrics was employed. Both vertical and horizontal craniofacial pattern were evaluated. In addition, chin dimensions studied included height, depth, ratio (depth/height), angle, and so on. They were compared between different groups with One-Way ANOVA. Correlation was analyzed between vertical skeletal craniofacial pattern and chin morphology.

RESULTSSNA, SNB and ANB presented no significant difference among three groups. Compared with the low angle group, high angle subjects exhibited increased chin height, depth/height ratio, concavity and decreased chin angle. Therefore the chin looked lathier and less protrusive in high angle group. Positive correlation was found between mandibular plane angle and chin height, concavity, curvature (P<0.05), negative correlation between mandibular plane angle and chin minimal depth, depth/height ratio, angle.

CONCLUSIONDifference emerged with regard to chin morphology in subjects with different vertical craniofacial skeletal pattern, which deserves to be taken into consideration in orthodontic treatment planning.
