ABSTRACT

Rhubarb is commonly used as a cathartic in Asian countries. However, researchers have devotedextensive concerns to the quality control and safety of rhubarb and traditional Chinese preparations composed of rhubarb due to the instable purgative effect and potential nephrotoxicity of anthraquinones. In this study, we aimed to prepare rhubarb total free anthraquinones (RTFA) oral colon-specific drug delivery granules (RTFA-OCDD-GN) to delivery anthraquinones to colon to produce purgative effect. RTFA-OCDD-GN were prepared using chitosan and Eudragit S100 through a double-layer coating process and the formulation was optimized. Continuous release studies were performed in a simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.2), followed by a small-intestinal fluid (pH 6.8) and a colonic fluid (pH 7.4, containing rat cecal contents). The purgative effect test was performed in rats. The dissolution profile of RTFA-OCDD-GN showed that the accumulative dissolution rate of RTFA was about 83.0% in the simulated colonic fluid containing rat cecal contents and only about 9.0% in the simulated gastrointestinal fluids. And the RTFA-OCDD-GN could produce the comparative purgative activity as rhubarb, suggesting it could deliver the free AQs to the colon. The RTFA-OCDD-GN was a useful media to enhance the purgative activity of free anthraquinones after administered orally.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To evaluate the advantages about video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy with optimized management of surgical instruments package. Methods A total of 200 patients with lung cancer were enrolled, which included 78 males and 122 females, aged 24-83 years at median age of 56.8 years. All of them were divided into 2 groups including a routine group (n=100) and an optimized management of surgical instruments group (n=100). The total operation time, bleeding, instrument weights, utilization rate of instruments, counted and cleaning time in 2 groups were recorded and analyzed. Results The average operation time and average lost blood of the routine group was 117.62±42.52 min and 53.14±50.69 ml, respectively, and the one of the optimized instruments group was 120.48±40.62 min, 56.10±49.87 ml, respectively, with no significant difference between the two groups (P=0.112, P=0.231, respectively). The utilization rate of instruments in the routine group (58.02%±2.39%) was significantly lower than that of the optimized instruments group (94.00%±1.48%, P=0.014). The counted time, the loading and unloading time and the cleaning time of instruments in the routine group was 112.00±26.00 s, 70.00±15.00 s, 1 010.00±130.00 s, respectively, much longer than the time of the optimized instruments group, which was 65.00±23.00 s, 20.00±4.00 s, 665.00±69.00 s, respectively. There was a statistical difference between the two groups (P=0.028, P=0.011, P=0.039, respectively). The value of instruments in the routine group (177 574.00±14 438.00 yuan) was apparently higher than that of the optimized instruments group(132 027.00±10 311.00 yuan), with a statistical difference (P=0.032). Conclusion It is demonstrated that optimized management of surgical instruments package in VATS lobectomy can greatly improve the utilization rate of instruments and work efficiency, with no effects on the operation time and amount of bleeding in lobectomy.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To measure ocular biometric values with sexual and age and determine the relationship between the differences using the Lenstar 900.METHODS:Totally 413 myopes 826 eyes,200 males (400 eyes) and 213 females (426 eyes),were enrolled in this study and were divided into 3 groups:Group Ⅰ (< 5 years),Group Ⅱ (5-10 years),Group Ⅲ (>10 years).Central corneal thickness (CCT),anterior chamber depth (ACD),lens thickness (LT),axial length (AL),white-to-white distance (WWD) and pupil diameter (PD) were measured by Lenstar 900.The differences between age groups and gender groups were compared using the LSD and SNKk methods in variance analysis.Pearson correlation coefficient to assess AL,CCT,ACD,LT,WWD,PD in children and adolescents.RESULTS:There were significant difference in CCT between ages groups (P<0.05) which increased with the age. There were significant differences both in ACD and AL between sexual groups. With analysis of Person,CCT showed a significantly positive correlation with WWD and PD(r=0.208,0.167;P<0.05) and ACD showed a significantly positive correlation with AL,WWD,PD(r=0.620,0.238,0.192;P<0.05).LT showed a significantly negative correlation with ACD,AL and WWD (r=-0.271,-0.186,-0.227;P<0.05).WWD showed a significantly positive correlation with PD (r=0.273,P<0.05).CONCLUSION:CCT has gradually thickening trend with ages.Men are more than women in ACD and AL.CCT shows positive correlation with WWD and PD and ACD shows positive correlation with AL,WND,PD.LT shows negative correlation with ACD,AL and WWD.WWD showed positive correlation with PD.
