ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the influence of occupational stress on mental health and job-leaving intention and the mediating roles of coping styles among county hospital clinicians. METHODS: By stratified cluster random sampling method,352 clinicians from 6 county hospitals in Guangxi Province were selected as study subjects. They were required to complete the questionnaires. The assessment was carried out by General Health Questionnaire,Occupational Stress Scale,Trait Coping Style Questionnaire and Questionnaires on Job-Leaving Intention. RESULTS: The rate of mental disorder in the clinicians was 27. 6%,and it showed no difference in different genders( P > 0. 05). The occupational stress, negative coping style and mental health were positively correlated with job-leaving intention( P < 0. 01). The positive coping style was negatively correlated with mental health and job-leaving intention( P < 0. 01). The occupational stress had significantly direct effects on mental health and job-leaving intention( the standard path coefficients were 0. 58 and 0. 46 respectively,P < 0. 01). The positive coping style showed indirect effects between occupational stress and mental health,as well as occupational stress and job-leaving intention( the effect values were 0. 04 and 0. 08 respectively,P < 0. 05).The negative coping style showed indirect effects between occupational stress and mental health( effect value was 0. 10,P < 0. 05). CONCLUSION: Among county hospital clinicians, the positive coping style had a part mediating effect in occupational stress, mental health and job-leaving intention. Negative coping style only had a part mediating effect in occupational stress and mental health.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDMicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding regulatory RNAs whose aberrant expression may be observed in many malignancies. However, few data are yet available on human primary medulloblastomas. This work aimed to identify that whether miRNAs would be aberrantly expressed in tumor tissues compared with non-tumorous cerebellum tissues from same patients, and to explore a possible role during carcinogenesis.

METHODSA high throughput microRNA microarray was performed in human primary medulloblastoma specimens to investigate differentially expressed miRNAs, and some miRNAs were validated using real-time quantitative RT-PCR method. In addition, the predicted target genes for the most significantly down- or up-regulated miRNAs were analyzed by using a newly modified ensemble algorithm.

RESULTSNine miRNA species were differentially expressed in medulloblastoma specimens versus normal non-tumorous cerebellum tissues. Of these, 4 were over expressed and 5 were under expressed. The changes ranged from 0.02-fold to 6.61-fold. These findings were confirmed using real-time quantitative RT-PCR for most significant deregulated miRNAs (miR-17, miR-100, miR-106b, and miR-218) which are novel and have not been previously published. Interestingly, most of the predicted target genes for these miRNAs were involved in medulloblastoma carcinogenesis.

CONCLUSIONSMiRNAs are differentially expressed between human medulloblastoma and non-tumorous cerebellum tissue. MiRNAs may play a role in the tumorigenesis of medulloblastoma and maybe serve as potential targets for novel therapeutic strategies in future.

ABSTRACT

AIMTo synthesize gastrodin via biotransformation of microorganism using p-hydroxybenzaldehyde as substrate.

METHODSUsing resting cell techniques with TLC and HPLC analysis, a strain of Rhizopus chinensis Staito AS3. 1165 which has the capability of biotransforming p-hydroxybenzaldehyde into gastrodin was screened from 50 strains of microorganisms. Preparative scale biotransformation was carried out under the optimal transforming condition. The product was obtained by chromatography, and characterized on the basis of its physical and spectral data.

RESULTSThe product was identified as gastrodin on the basis of its 1H NMR, 13C NMR and EI-MS spectral data.

CONCLUSIONThe fact that gastrodin could be synthesized by microbial transformation implies a new approach to gastrodin production. As a result, this research will be of a great economic and social value.

ABSTRACT

Objevtive To explore the microsurgical methods for resecting the tumors of the third ven- tricle and discuss the anatomic foundation of mircrosurgical methods. Methods Twelve patients with tumors of third ventricle were operated on via approach of transcallosum interfornix.Pathologic diagnoses included eight craniopharyngiomas intruding the third ventricle, two gliomas in medial thalamus, one ependymoma and one teratoma. Results Total removal in microscope of the tumors were achieved in 10 cases and subtotal re- moval in 2 cases. The percentage of total resections achieved to 83.3%.Seven of eight craniopharyngiomas were totally resected and the postoperative MR indicated no remanent or recurrent tumors. No death occurred in all cases and the recent complications which were disappeared after one or two weeks' management mostly included polydipsia, diuresis and electrolyte disturbances.Long termed complications included two hydren- cephalus and two spontaneously absorbed subdural fluidifies ventricle-abodminal shunt was performed in one case. The time of follow-up continued were between two months to two and a half years. One subtotal resected craniopharyngiomas was relapesed in eight months, one glioma in thalamus was relapesed in one year and in the remanent ten cases nine can live normally and one can live with self-care.Conclusion Transcallosum interfornix approach for microsurgically removing the third ventricle tumors reached the third ventricle through the rudimental tissue space of embryonic tissue. It can provide a slight trauma,a quite large operative field, euthyhoria for operating. We can use this appoach to resect the tumors located in all directions in the third ven- tricle. The percentage of total resection was large and few complications occurred.
