ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the current status on knowledge for unintentional injury and risky behavior among school-age children in Changsha, China, and to provide scientific evidence for the preventive strategies.
@*METHODS@#A cross-sectional study was conducted on 866 students who were between 6 and 12 years old in Changsha. Two primary schools were selected by stratified cluster random sampling from all primary schools of Changsha city to collect the information regarding knowledge for unintentional injury and risky behavior occurring in the 6-month period before the survey.
@*RESULTS@#The mean score for knowledge of unintentional injury was 11.83±2.38. The levels of knowledge for unintentional injury differed significantly in child's age, parents' education background and child's injury history (P0.05).
@*CONCLUSION@#It is a common phenomenon in school-age children who are lack of the knowledge for unintentional injury and risky behavior. This study provides useful information on the risk factors for unintentional injury and risky behavior, which would be significant for prevention program.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the predictive accuracy of the triage early warning score (TEWS) in the prognosis and emergency treatment for trauma patients admitted to the emergency department (ED).@*METHODS@#A total of 456 trauma patients (>12 years old) admitted to ED at an education and research hospital in approximately 4 months were prospectively studied. Th e TEWS was recorded in all patients. Th e primary end-point was during 28 days and the emergency responses (such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation/electrical defibrillation, mechanical ventilation) in the ED.@*RESULTS@#Patients with TEWS less than or equal to 9, from 10 to 13, or greater or equal to 14 had mortality rates of 0.98%, 52.63%, or 80%, respectively. An increase in 1 point within the range of 17-point TEWS would be associated with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.14 for death [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.759 to 2.604]. In predicting mortality rates during 28 days, the cut-point was greater than 8, the sensitivity was 87.10% (95% CI: 70.2% to 96.4%), the specificity was 92.47% (95% CI: 89.5% to 94.8%), and the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCROC) was 0.929 (95% CI: 0.902 to 0.951). Th e AUCROC of TEWS in predicting the emergency responses for CPR/electrical defibrillation application or mechanical ventilation was 0.969 (95% CI: 0.949 to 0.983) or 0.897 (95% CI: 0.865 to 0.923), respectively.@*CONCLUSION@#TEWS is effective in predicting the prognosis and emergency treatment for trauma patients admitted to ED.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Necrosis of femoral head induced by hormone is the iatrogenic disorder. It is doubt whether such problem is improved or not by increasing blood-flow volume in the local necrosis tissues.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effects of electric acupuncture on blood-flow volume in local tissues of femoral head so as to understand the mechanism of acupuncture on hormonal necrosis of femoral head.DESIGN: Randomized controlled study in which the experimental animals were taken as the objects.SETTING: Department of integrated traditional chinese and western medicine in a college of traditional chinese medicine.MATERIALS: The experiment was performed from May 2002 to June 2003in Animal Experimental Room of Clinical Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine affiliated to Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thirty female and male(half-half) New Zealand white rabbits were employed, in clean grade, which were randomized into blank control, model group and treatment of electric acupuncture group.METHODS: The model of hormonal necrosis of femoral head in rabbits was prepared. In the treatment group, PCE-88A type controlled electric acupuncture apparatus developed by Institute of Acupuncture and Meridians and Collaterials in Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was applied on Huantiao(GB 30) and Biguan(ST 31) . No any treatment was applied in the model and blank groups.MAIN OUTCOME MEAURES: The curve of blood-flow volume in local necrosis tissues at the moment of acupuncture and 2 weeks after treatment.RESULTS: The blood-flow volume in local necrosis tissues at the moment of acupuncture in the treatment group(0.50 ±0.08) mL/g per minute was reduced significantly compared with that of blank control group[(8.63± 0. 83) mL/g per minute] and the model group[ (4.30 ±0. 89) mL/g per minute], indicating significant difference ( P < 0.01). The blood-flow volume in local necrosis tissues 2 weeks after treatment[ (6. 19 ± 0.61) mL/g per minute] was remarkably increased compared with the blank control [ (8.33 ± 0.65) mL/g per minute] and the model group[ (4.44 ± 0. 72) mL/g per minute], indicating significant difference( P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Electric acupuncture can improve local blood supply in hormonal necrosis of femoral head immediately, which is probably related to the regulation in the net of nerve-endocrine-immunity.

ABSTRACT

【Objective】To observe the effect of electro-acupuncture(EA) and Banxia Xiexin Decoction(BXD) on motilin levels of functional dyspepsia(FD) rats.【Methods】 Sixty SD rats were randomized into normal control group, model group, mosapride citrate tablets(MCT,2.82 mg?kg-1?d-1) group,EA group,BXD(33g?kg-1?d-1) group,EA + BXD group.Except the normal control group, the rats with FD in other groups were induced by stimulating the rat tails with forceps clip. EA group received EA on bilateral acupoints of Zusanli(ST36) for consecutive 7 days.MTL content in rats plasma, antrum, jejunum, and hypothalamus was observed with radioimmunological method.【Results】MTL content decreased in the plasma, antrum, jejunum, and hypothalamus of the model group(P
