ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the dietary quality of De'ang nationality residents over 18 years old in Yunnan Provinceusing the new adjusted Diet Balance Index (DBI_16), and to provide scientific basis for improving the nutritional status of De'ang residents and formulating health promotion strategies. Methods A food-frequency questionnaire was used to investigate the diet of De'ang residents, and the new adjusted dietary balance index (DBI_16) was used to evaluate the dietary quality. Results The dietary quality of De'ang nationality residents over 18 years old in Yunnan Province was in a moderately imbalanced state (DQD=42), and the main problem was insufficient dietary intake (LBS = 26). The dietary imbalance among men, 65-79 years old and low-income people was serious. The intake of milk, vegetables, fruits and aquatic products was the most insufficient and people who met the recommended intake levels of these foods were 2%, 34.7%, 31.8%, and 36%, respectively. Meanwhile, there existed the problem of excessive intakes among people studied in the present investigation. Pople who consumed more than recommended amount of Cereal food, livestock and poultry meat, and edible oil accounted for 76.9%, 60.4% and 63.5%, respectively. Conclusion The dietary structure of De'ang residents over 18 years old in Yunnan Province is unreasonable. The problems of both insufficient and excessive dietary intakes exist. Education on balance diet should be conducted to improve nutrition and health status of De'ang nationality residents.

ABSTRACT

To examine the growth activity and osteogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in rats with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as well as the expression level of Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) in bone marrow, and to explore the relationship between the osteogenic activity of BMSCs and the expression of DKK-1.
Methods: The BMSCs were isolated from T2DM rats and were cultured in vitro. The BMSCs were divided into a T2DM group and a control group. The proliferation of BMSCs was detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK8). Apoptosis rate was detected by annexin V- fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)/propidium iodide (PI) double staining. In the osteogenic induction phase, the expression level of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in BMSCs was detected by ALP staining and ALP activity assay kit. The osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs was analyzed by alizarin red staining and mineralized nodule quantification. In addition, the expression of Runx2 and DKK-1 in BMSCs was detected by qRT-PCR.
Results: Compared with the control group, the proliferation of BMSCs was decreased and the apoptosis was increased in the T2DM group (both P<0.01). In the osteogenic induction process of BMSCs, the expression of ALP significantly decreased, the formation of calcium nodules reduced, and the expression of osteoblast transcription factor Runx2 was down-regulated in the T2DM group compared with those in the control group (all P<0.01). The levels of DKK-1 protein and mRNA were up-regulated in the T2DM group, which were higher than those in the control group (both P<0.01). The levels of DKK-1 protein and mRNA were related to the increase of Runx2 (both P<0.01).
Conclusion: The growth activity of BMSCs and the potential of osteogenic differentiation are attenuated in the T2DM rats, which may be related to the increase of DKK-1 expression in BMSCs.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the changes and gender differences of organ coefficients, intestinal length and body size of SJ5-SPF chickens at different weeks of age,and to provide experimental data for the sex selection of laboratory chickens. Methods The body weight, the weight of 15 main organs, and length of 5 main segments of intestine and the 6 main parameters of body size of SJ5-SPF chickens at the age of 4,20,25 and 40 weeks were measured, respectively, and the organ coefficients were calculated. In addition, the gender differences in body weights, organ coefficients, intestinal lengths and body sizes between the female and male SJ5-SPF chickens at the four different weeks of age were compared, respectively. Results There were significant differences in body weights between the male and female SJ5-SPF chickens at each of the four different weeks of age(P < 0.01). The organ coefficients varied between females and males to different extents at different weeks of age. As for the intestinal length, there were no significant differences in the length of jejunum and ileum as well as rectum between the male and female chickens, while the length of duodenum, left cecum and right cecum showed gender differences at some of the four different weeks of age. During the determination of body size, there were gender differences in body length, shank length, pelvic width, chest depth and chest width at two or three of the four different weeks of age. Conclusions The organ coefficients, intestinal length and body size of SJ5-SPF chickens are affected by both their age and gender.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the efficacy of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation technology com-bined with respiratory stimulant in the treatment of pulmonary encephalopathy in patients with COPD.Methods For-ty -eight COPD patients with early pulmonary encephalopathy were included. They were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group. The treatment group was treated by not only regular treatment and noninvasive posi-tive pressure ventilation technology, but also respiratory stimulant. The control group was only treated by regular treat-ment and noninvasive positive pressure ventilation technology. The indexes were recorded, including tracheal intubation rate, clinical recovery rate, mortality,Glasgow coma score, arterial blood gas analysis and adverse reactions. Results Compared with the control group, the arterial blood gas analysis of treatment group on the 2h,24h and 72h were statis-tically significant different(P <0.05).The GCS score on the 24h and 72h were also statistically significant different [24h,(13.4 ±1.6)vs.(11.8 ±2.1),P <0.05;72h,(14.6 ±1.5)vs.(12.4 ±2.4),P <0.05].The treatment group had lower tracheal intubation rate(12% vs.56.5%,P =0.001),shorter consciousness recovery time[(3.0 ± 0.5)h vs.(5.6 ±0.7)h,P =0.023],shorter hospitalization time in ICU[(12.6 ±1.5)d vs.(19.2 ±1.8)d,P =0.004]and better clinical recovery(22 /25 vs.10 /23,P =0.001)than the control group. But the mortality rate had no significant difference between the two groups(1 /25 vs.4 /23,P =0.129).Conclusion NIPPV combined with respiratory stimulant is an effective, safe and simple method for treatment of COPD complicated with pulmonary encephalopathy. It can significantly improve the clinical symptoms and the index of arterial blood gas analysis, and it can shorten consciousness recovery time and decrease tracheal intubation rate. But close observation must be carried out,and the invasive mechanical ventilation should be promptly executed in case of emergency or exacerbation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo compare the application valuable of flexible spatial scan statistics and kulldorff scanning window in the cluster detection and early warning of hepatitis A.

METHODSThe case numbers and incidence data of hepatitis A in 2012 for all the counties (cities, districts)in Yunnan province were collected from China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention and the total number was 1 335. By extracting the time length by month, the flexible spatial scan statistics was tested by retrospective analyses of hepatitis A data in Yunnan in 2012 and compared the results with the Kulldorff circular scan statistic analyses.

RESULTSThe results of flexible scanning window showed that there were fifteen hepatitis A spatial clusters in Yunnan province in 2012 and in July, these areas including Gejiu county, Mengzi county and Wenshan county had the strongest clusters (the log likelihood ratio (LLR) = 52.66, P = 0.001). The results of Kulldorff scanning window showed that there were twenty hepatitis A spatial clusters and these areas including Gejiu county, Hekou county, Maguan county, Mengzi county, Pingbian county, Wenshan county had the strongest clusters (LLR = 47.82, P = 0.001). The results of the flexible scanning window were the same as the actual monitoring results. But the results of Kulldorff scanning window showed that in May and June some areas without incidence had the clusters.

CONCLUSIONFlexible scanning window can detect the monthly clusters of the Hepatitis A. Flexible scanning window had a higher accuracy than Kulldorff irregular circular scanning window. Flexible spatial scan statistics had the value in the use of spatial aggregation detecting on hepatitis A.
