ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT)combined with PC chemotherapy (paclitaxel + carboplatin)on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and the serum levels of CA125,tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1),serum amyloid A (SAA)and T-lymphocyte subsets. Methods A total of 100 patients with NSCLC treated in Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University from May 2015 to December 2017 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into control group and observation group according to random number table method,with 50 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with 3D-CRT combined with PC chemotherapy,while the con-trol group was treated with PC chemotherapy. The two groups were treated for 4 cycles. The therapeutic effect, serum CA125,TIMP-1,SAA,T-lymphocyte subsets and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results Four cases were lost to follow-up both in the two groups. The overall response rate in the observation group (43. 48%,20 / 46)was higher than that in the control group (23. 91%,11 / 46;χ2 = 3. 941, P = 0. 047). The serum levels of CA125,TIMP-1 and SAA of the two groups had no significant difference be-fore treatment,and the levels of these indexes decreased after treatment. The serum levels of CA125,TIMP-1 and SAA in the observation group after treatment were (12. 31 ± 1. 13)U/ ml,(275. 31 ± 13. 69)pg/ ml and (47. 21 ± 7. 21)mg/ L,which were lower than those in the control group [(30. 36 ± 1. 98)U/ ml,(320. 36 ± 17. 23)pg/ ml,(65. 92 ± 8. 36)mg/ L],with significant differences (t = 53. 699,P < 0. 001;t = 13. 884, P < 0. 001;t = 11. 495,P < 0. 001). The levels of CD3 +,CD4 +,CD8 + and CD4 + / CD8 + of the two groups had no significant difference before treatment,and the levels of these indexes decreased after treatment. The levels of CD3 +,CD4 +,CD8 + and CD4 + / CD8 + in the observation group were (35. 27 ± 10. 31 )%, (20. 27 ± 6. 72)%,(15. 89 ± 3. 37)% and 0. 91 ± 0. 37,which were higher than those in the control group [(30. 77 ± 9. 27)%,(15. 27 ± 5. 73)%,(12. 02 ± 2. 69)% and 0. 75 ± 0. 39],with significant differences (t = 2. 201,P = 0. 030;t = 3. 840,P < 0. 001;t = 6. 087,P < 0. 001;t = 2. 019,P = 0. 047). Conclusion For patients with NSCLC,3D-CRT combined with PC chemotherapy can im-prove the overall response rate,decrease the levels of serum CA125,TIMP-1 and SAA,and improve the im-mune function of patients. The therapeutic effect is remarkable and the safety is good. The therapeutic scheme is suitable for the treatment of NSCLC.

The serum levels of CA125, TIMP-1 and SAA in the observation group after treatment were (12.31±1.13) U/ml, (275.31±13.69) pg/ml and (47.21±7.21) mg/L, which were lower than those in the control group [(30.36±1.98) U/ml, (320.36±17.23) pg/ml, (65.92±8.36) mg/L], with significant differences (t=53.699, P<0.001; t=13.884, P<0.001; t=11.495, P<0.001). The levels of CD3+ , CD4+ , CD8+ and CD4+ /CD8+ of the two groups had no significant difference before treatment, and the levels of these indexes decreased after treatment. The levels of CD3+ , CD4+ , CD8+ and CD4+ /CD8+ in the observation group were (35.27±10.31)%, (20.27±6.72)%, (15.89±3.37)% and 0.91±0.37, which were higher than those in the control group [(30.77±9.27)%, (15.27±5.73)%, (12.02±2.69)% and 0.75±0.39], with significant differences (t=2.201, P=0.030; t=3.840, P<0.001; t=6.087, P<0.001; t=2.019, P=0.047). There were no significant differences in the adverse reactions such as nausea and vomiting [63.04% (29/46) vs. 43.48% (20/46); χ2=3.537, P=0.060], phlebitis [6.52% (3/46) vs. 4.35% (2/46); χ2=0.000, P>0.999], abnormal liver function [6.52% (3/46) vs. 2.17% (1/46); χ2=0.261, P=0.609] and myelosuppression [8.70% (4/46) vs. 6.52% (3/46); χ2=0.000, P>0.999] between the observation group and the control group.@*Conclusion@#For patients with NSCLC, 3D-CRT combined with PC chemotherapy can improve the overall response rate, decrease the levels of serum CA125, TIMP-1 and SAA, and improve the immune function of patients. The therapeutic effect is remarkable and the safety is good. The therapeutic scheme is suitable for the treatment of NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the correlation between CD4+ CD29+ T cells and metastasis and radiotherapy for patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Method Seventy-one patients with lung adenocarcinoma, 93 patients with lung adenocarcinoma ,76 cases of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),63 cases of healthy volunteers were enrolled. Frequencies of blood CD4+ CD29+ T cells and their intracellular necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α)and interleukin 1(IL-1)were compared. Compare TNF-α,IL-1,integrin beta 1 and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)levels in the patients with transferred pulmonary adenocarcinoma or with non-transferred pulmonary adenocarcinoma and their changes with the treatment of radiotherapy. Results the patients with lung adenocarcinoma and non lung adenocarcinoma were significantly higher than that of COPD and health group,and patients with lung adenocarcinoma is significantly higher than patients with non lung adenocarcinoma (P<0.05);Integrin beta 1,VEGF and CD4+CD29+T cells,TNF-αand IL-1 level in patients with lung adeno-carcinoma metastasis were significantly higher than non-transferred group(P < 0.05);After radiotherapy,CD4+CD29+T cells,TNF-αand IL-1 in patients with lung adenocarcinoma were significantly lower than before(P<0.05);CD4+ CD29+ T cells,TNF alpha and IL-1 with integrin beta 1 and VEGF had significantly positive correlations. Conclusion CD4+CD29+T cells and cytokines increase significantly in the blood of patients with lung adenocarci-noma,and are related to the prognosis of metastasis and radiation therapy,which has important clinical significance.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the expression of MMP2 and its correlation with the clinical features and prognosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We collected paraffin-embedded samples from 81 patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma aged 32 to 80 years to examine the expression of MMP2 using immunohistochemistry. The correlation of MMP2 expression with the clinical characteristics and prognosis of the patients was analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>MMP2 protein was expressed in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells. MMP2 over-expression was negatively correlated with tumor differentiation (P=0.015) and prognosis (P=0.041) of endometrial adenocarcinoma.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>MMP2 over-expression is a potential malignant biomarker in endometrial adenocarcinoma.</p>

ABSTRACT

Background and purpose:Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Approximately 15%of all histological types consist of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Chemotherapy is one of the major treatment methods. Though the current front-line standard chemotherapy regimen for SCLC is active in most SCLC cases, however, the disease recurs shortly after the ifrst successful treatment with multi-drug resistance phenotype. Our previously study showed that zinc ifnger protein X-linked (ZFX) was overexpressed in SCLC cells. This study aimed to investigate the expression of ZFX in SCLC tissues, and to clear their possible associations with clinical parameters and provide basis for therapy of SCLC. Methods:A total of 98 surgical specimens of small cell lung cancer were collected. The expression of ZFX was examined by quantiifcational real-time polymerase chain reaction in 78 specimens taken from patients with complete clinical data. Results:The expression of ZFX was signiifcantly increased in extensive stages than in limited stages. The expression of ZFX was associated with tumor stage, the sensitivity of chemotherapy, and survival times (all P0.05). Conclusion: ZFX expression might be associated with the development of SCLC, and may be a potential prognosis predictor.

Serum KL-6 is a category of glycoprotein coded by the epithelium of sticky protein 1(MUC1) gene,which has already been regarded as an indicator of interstitial lung diseases,and later found highly expressed in part of malignant tumor patients.In recent years,studies has found that serum KL-6 is associated with the incidence of radioactive pneumonia,and monitoring serum KL-6 can predict the occurrence of radioactive pneumonia as well assess the severity and prognosis of disease.

MiR-494 involves in cell cycle regulation,differentiation and apoptosis processes of normal ceils.Recent study shows that abnormal expression of miR-494 is associated with oncogenesis closely,and it participates in the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells and so on.MiR-494 is not only a tumor suppressor gene,but also can be considered as a cancer-promoting gene.MiR-494 can regulate the oncogenesis and development of the tumor through a variety of target genes and signaling pathways.

ABSTRACT

Lysyl oxidase-like protein 2 (LOXL2) is one of the lysyl oxidases (LOX) families.At present,most of scholars consider that LOXL2 is a neoplasm metastasis gene,whereas some others belleve that LOXL2 is a neoplasm suppressor gene.Studies found that LOXL2 gene combined with other oncogenes promotes neoplasm invasion,metastasis and indicates a poor prognosis.Related researches provide new ideas for judging tumor metastasis and prognosis and looking for new targets for cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Tumor spinal metastasis is often complicated with pain,limitations in movement, paralysis and poor prognosis.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the factors affecting the recovery of the spinal functions in patients with spinal metastatic carcinoma and its therapeutic methods so as to improve the living quality of the patients with a terminal cancer.DESIGN: A case-controlled observation.SETTING: The Department of Tumor and Department of Radiotherapy of the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical College.PARTICIPANTS: We selected 162 patients with spinal metastatic carcinoma with different degrees of paralysis who received treatment at the Department of Oncology and the Department of Radiotherapy of the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical College between March 1992 and June 2001. They participated in this experiment voluntarily.METHODS:①Radiotherapy and chemotherapy; All the patients were given symptomatic treatment with simple radiotherapy or a combined therapy of simple radiotherapy and chemotherapy, in which the dose of chemotherapy was 2 Gy/time,5 times a week,3 weeks in total. A combined method was used for chemotherapy according to the nature of the different primary tumors. The chemotherapy was conducted for 3 therapeutic courses in average ranging from 2 to 6 courses of treatment with 21 days for each course. ② Physical rehabilitation therapy included exercise therapy, massage (twice/day), functional electrical stimulation (once a day),bladder training and toilet training (once or twice every day), 10 days as a therapeutic course, 3 successive therapeutic courses in total. After the treatment, analgesic pain, muscle power of the limbs and the recovery of defecation function were observed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Pain-alleviating, muscle power of the limbs and the recovery of defecation function after the operation. RESULTS: Totally 162 patients with spinal metastasis carcinoma were recruited, and all the patients entered the stage of result analysis at the end of therapy with no loss in the midway. ① Pain complete alleviating was in 97 cases (59.88%); no alleveclting in 0 case. ② The condition was remarkably improved in 127 cases(78.40%), and it was not improved in 35 cases (21.60%). The improved rate of muscle power of the patients with one focus and 2 adjacent focuses was 92.98%. The improved rate of the patients with multiple foci was 64.59%. The muscle power of the patients with a disease history of less than 2 weeks was improved remarkably, but there was no change in muscle power in patients with a disease history of more than 2 months. CT or MRI showed that spinal cord at the affected segment of the 21 patients suffered severely compression before the treatment, and only 2 cases were improved in muscle power, with no other changes.③The defecation function of 162 patients all became normal.CONCLUSION: Patients with spinal metastatic carcinoma complicated with paralysis have different degrees of relief and amelioration in pain,muscle power of the limbs and defecation function after radiotherapy,chemotherapy and synthetic rehabilitation therapy. Factors affecting the recovery of spinal function mainly included the length of disease course,compressed degree of the spinal cord, the quantity of metastatic focus, the health status of the patients and therapeutic time and the quality of primary rehabilitation and so on. Mental help to the patients should be paid attention to so as to improve the quality of life at the same time.

Objective:To evaluate the biocompatibility of Ti-75 alloy(TA) as a substrate of composite implant (CI) and the role of the shear strength of TA-coating in the CI-bone interface. Methods:A transcortical implant model was used. A total of 32 implants of CI and TA were implanted into bilateral femur of 4 adult mongrel dogs. the animals were killed 3 and 6 months after surgery. The implant-bone interfaces were observed by morphological examination and the interface shear strength was measured by push-out test. After push-out test, the failure interfaces were observed by SEM. Results:Osseo-integration was confirmed in the both interfaces of CI and TA with bone. ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the role of Color Doppler Flowing Imaging(CDFI) in assessing metastatic lymph node for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods Neck lymph node were detected by CDFI in 206 patients who received the initial course radiotherapy in our hospital. The characteristic of neck node, such as position, figure, number, size, its relation to surrounding soft tissue, the ratio of longitudinal diameter over trnsverses′(L/T) and blood flow resistance index (RI), were recorded detailedly. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed on some of patients under the guide of ultrasound. Results The clinical N-stage was changed markedly after CDFI plus biopsy, with up-staging in 25 from N0 to N1 , 6 N0 to N2, 20 N1 to N2, 3 N1 to N3, 4 N2 to N3; and down-staging in 14 from N2 to N1, 7 from N3 to N2. The misdiagnosis rate of node involvement by palpation was 38.3% (79/206). The sizes of lymph node detected by palpation were larger than those by CDFI (P0.6, and the value would reached to 92.9%(182/196) and 95.5%(107/112)when such criteria combined with the diameter and growth behavior of lymph node. Conclusion Color Doppler Flowing Imaging is useful in N-staging for nasopharyngeal carcinoma by providing more reliable evidence.
