ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo compare the effects between moxibustion at Shenshu (BL 23) and oral administration of Vitamin E on quality of life and mechanism in sub-health perimenopausal women, aiming to provide clinical evidence of moxibustion for health care of sub-health female.

METHODSSixty participants were randomly divided into a moxibustion group and a medication group, 30 cases in each one. The volunteers in the moxibustion group were treated with mild moxibustion at bilateral Shenshu (BL 23) for 15 min, once a day; five treatments were considered as a course of treatment, and totally 4 courses were given with an interval of 2 days between courses. The volunteers in the medication group were treated with oral administration of soft capsule of Vitamin E, once a day, continuously for 28 days. The scores of quality of life and serum levels of sex hormones, anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and inhibin B (INHB) were measured before and after treatment in the two groups.

RESULTS① Compared before treatment, the scores of quality of life in the two groups were both significantly increased after treatment (both<0.01), which was more superior in the moxibustion group (<0.05). ② Compared before treatment, the serum levels of estradiol (E) and progesterone in the moxibustion group were significantly increased after treatment, especially for premenopausal volunteers (both<0.01). ③ After moxibustion, the serum level of AMH was significantly improved (<0.01), however, the effect on INHB had no statistical difference (>0.05).

CONCLUSIONSMoxibustion could effectively improve the quality of life in sub-health perimenopausal women, regulate the levels of sex hormones and AMH, improve ovarian reserve function, and delay ovarian aging.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of deep needling at Tianshu (ST25) with electroacupuncture in treating post-stroke constipation. Method Forty-eight patients with post-stroke constipation were randomized into an electroacupuncture (EA) group and a medication group, 24 cases in each group. The EA group was intervened by deep needling at Tianshu with EA, while the medication group was by Cong Rong Tong Bian oral liquid. After 1 treatment course, the constipation symptom score was observed and the clinical efficacy was calculated. Result After 1 treatment course, the symptom score, total effective rate, recovery plus markedly-effective rate of the EA group were superior to that of the control group, and the inter-group differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Deep needling at Tianshu with EA can significantly enhance the clinical efficacy in treating post-stroke constipation and improve the quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at Xinming points (Extra) plus strong rein-forcing mani- pulation in treating optic atrophy. Methods Forty (56 eyes) optic atrophy patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 20 cases (29 eyes) and a control group of 20 cases (27 eyes). The control group received conventional medications, and the treatment group received acupuncture at Xinming points (Extra) plus strong reinforcing manipulation in addition. The visual acuity, the mean visual sensitivity (MS) of visual field and the P100 wave latency of P-VEP were recorded in the two groups before and after the treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. Results The visual acuity, the MS of visual field and the P100 wave latency of P-VEP were significantly changed after treatment in both two groups (P<0.05). After the treatment, there were statistically significant differences in the visual acuity, the MS of visual field and the P100 wave latency of P-VEP between the two groups (P<0.05). The total efficacy rate was 75.0% in the treatment group versus 35.0% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions Acupuncture at Xinming points (Extra) plus strong reinforcing manipulation is an effective method for optic atrophy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) on the learning-memory ability in Alzheimer's disease(AD) rats. Methods Thirty SD rats were equally randomized into control, model and EA groups.AD model was established by injecting ?-amyloid(A?25-35,10?g) into the bilateral dentate gyri of the hippocampal CA 1 area(AP-3.5mm,ML?2.0mm,DV 2.7mm).EA(4Hz,1-2mA) was applied to "Baihui"(GV 20),"Dazhui"(GV 14),bilateral "Shenshu"(BL 23) and bilateral "Yongquan"(KI 1) for 30min,once daily for 7 days. The learning-memory ability was detected by using step-down test.Long term potentiation(LTP) of hippocampal CA 1 area was recorded by using tungsten microelectrodes after high frequency stimulation(HFS) conditioning of the cortical anterior perforated substance. Results In AD rats, the error number and total error time of step-down test were increased significantly(P

ABSTRACT

To investigate an effective method of treating ischemic stroke. Methods:The scalp area corresponding to the ischemic focus was electro-acupunctured by craniocerebral CT localization. Cerebral blood flow and blood rheology were measured. Results:The curative effect and changes in cerebral blood flow and hemorheologic indices were better in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:Scalp electro-acupuncture based on CT localization is an effective method of treating ischemic stroke.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effect of scalp multiple needle insertion by electric stimulation in the treatment of ischemic apoplexy. Methods: Scalp multiple needle insertion by electric stimulation was used to treat ischemic apoplexy and changes in rheoencephalogram, blood rheology, blood lipid and serum endothelin were observed. Results:The therapeutic effect was remarkable(P<0.05) in the observation group and there were obvious changes in rheoencephalogram, blood rheology, blood lipids and serum endothelin (P<0.05). Conclusion: Scalp multiple needle insertion by electric stimulation has an exact effect in the treatment of ischemic apoplexy. The therapeutic mechanism is related to improvement in blood circulation.
