ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Yu’s meridian detection and treatment plus acupuncture in treating facial paralysis.Method Sixty patients with facial paralysis in acute stage were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 cases in each group. The treatment group was intervened by Yu’s meridian detection and treatment plus acupuncture, while the control group was by ordinary acupuncture. The House-Brackmann (H-B) scale and symptom-sign scores were observed before and after the treatment.Result The H-B scale scores were changed significantly in the two groups after the treatment (P<0.05). After the treatment, the H-B score of the treatment group was significantly different from that of the control group (P<0.05). The symptom-sign scores were significantly changed in both groups after the treatment (P<0.01). The symptom-sign score of the treatment group was significantly different from that of the control group after the treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion Yu’s meridian detection and treatment plus acupuncture is an effective method in treating facial paralysis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the treatment difference of using acupiont application alone, pricking Sifeng (EX-UE10) alone, and combination of the two therapies in treating infantile chronic cough. Method Ninety patients were randomized into 3 groups (acupoint application group, pricking Sifeng group, and a combining group), 30 in each group. Same points were selected for the three groups:Feishu (BL13), Pishu (BL20), Shenshu (BL23), and Sifeng (EX-UE 10). By follow-up research of the symptom scale, the therapeutic efficacies were compared. Result The total effective rate was 83.3%in the acupoint application group, 80.0%in the pricking Sifeng (EX-UE 10) group, and 93.3%in the combining group;meanwhile, the symptom scores were significantly changed after intervention in all three groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Separate use and combining use of acupoint application and pricking Sifeng (EX-UE 10) all can improve the condition of infantile chronic cough, while the combining use can produce a significantly higher therapeutic efficacy, thus it’s a safe, effective, and easy-to-operate external treatment in traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo compare the therapeutic efficacies of pricking Sifeng (EX-UE10), spine pinching, and the combination of pricking Sifeng and spine pinching in treating infantile dyspepsia.MethodBy simple randomization, ninety-six patients were divided into a pricking group (n=32), a spine pinching group (n=32), and a combination group (n=32). One-month treatment was considered as a course. Before treatment and after 1 treatment course, the 3 groups were evaluated by symptom scale and the criteria of symptom and therapeutic efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine to determine the therapeutic efficacy. ResultThe total symptom score decreased significantly in the three groups after treatment (P0.05); while the improvements of appetite, vitality, sleep, hyperidrosis, infection, irregular defecation, abdominal bloating, and hairglossiness were statistically significant in the three groups (P<0.01). The recovery and markedly-effective rate was 51.6% in the pricking group, 48.4% in the spine pinching group, and 77.4% in the combination group; the therapeutic efficacy of the combination group was significantly higher than that of the other two groups (P<0.05).ConclusionThe three treatment protocols, i.e. pricking Sifeng, spine pinching, and the combination of the two methods, all can effectively improve the symptoms of infantiledyspepsia, while the therapeutic efficacy of the combination protocol is superior to the two methods usedseparately.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the therapeutic effect and mechanism of abdominal acupuncture for cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty cases of cervical vertigo, in which the color ultrasonography indicated vertebral arterial blood insufficiency, were treated with abdominal acupuncture therapy. The points were Zhongwan (CV 12), Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Xiawan (CV 10), Shangqu (KI 17) and Huaroumen (ST 24). The treatment was given once every day and five continuous treatments made one session. Separately, before treatment and in the 1st and 5th treatments, the cervical vertigo symptom and functional assessment scales were adopted for scoring. Simultaneously, the color ultrasonography was applied to observe the blood flow changes of the bilateral cervical arteries.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Except the score for headache in the 1st treatment, the scores in cervical vertigo and function assessment scale in the 1st and 5th treatments were all improved significantly in 30 patients as compared with those before treatment (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). In the 1st and 5th treatments, on the affected side, the vertebral artery diameter, mean velocity and blood flow per minute were all improved significantly as compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.01). In one session treatment, the total effective rate was 100.0% (30/30) and the curative rate was 60.0% (18/30).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Abdominal acupuncture therapy not only relieves the clinical symptoms, but also improves vertebral arterial blood supply for the patients of cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture treatment for infantile autism. Methods: After being treated with the needling technique for enhancing wisdom and opening the orifice, 32 cases of sick children were assessed by Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) depending upon their clinical symptoms. Results: After acupuncture treatments, language communication, interpersonal relationships, movements and behavior, and personal ability had all improved. Among them, the remarkable rate of language communication showed a statistical significance in comparison with the other three items (P<0.05). In the comparison of the ATEC scores before and after the treatments, the language items (P<0.01), social relationships, perception and behavior items, showed statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of sick children with autism, and the interference effect on language function is especially remarkable.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the improvement of sleep and life quality in chronic insomina patients with abdominal acupuncture. Methods Ninety patients were randomly divided into study group and control group. The study group were treated with abdominal acupuncture combined with hypnotics, and control group of with pure hypnotics. Ten treatments formed a course. The therapeutical effect was assessed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Questionnaire SF-36 before and after treatment and 2 weeks after treatment respectively. Results The significant improvement was obtained in aspects of general effective rate right after the treatment, general score of PSQI and score of Questionnaire SF-36, and very significant improvement two weeks after the treatment not only in PSQI scores in sleep quality, sleep efficiency, daytime function and hypnotics but in SF-36 score. Conclusions Abdominal acupuncture can treat chronic insomnia through regulating body environment so as to improve sleep and life quality, and eliminate the hypnotic side effects.
