ABSTRACT

A group of symptoms are caused by vascular compression upon facial and acoustic nerves at the cerebellopontine angle. Surgical exploration by retro-sigmoidal or retro-labyrinthine route suggested that the sites of compression were in the segment of nerves near the internal acoustic meatus.Following decompression the results were very satisfactory

ABSTRACT

Hemifacial spasm and Trigeminal Neuralgia is seen in middle aged and aged persons. Thirty cases of Hemifacial spasm and 34 cases of Trigeminal Neuralgia were decompressed by retrosigmoidal approach. Surgical procedure is described. Compressions of the nerves was noticed in all these cases at operation. Sixty three cases [98.4%] were free of symptoms postoperatively, confirming the pathology reported in other clinical reports. Pathologies producing the compression and its various sites are discussed
