ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the applicability of integration between three-dimensional (3D) facial and dental data to evaluate the nasolabial morphology variation before and after the cross-arch fixed restoration of the maxillary implant-supported prostheses.@*METHODS@#Twelve patients (4 women and 8 men), mean age (54.82±5.50) years (from 45 to 62 years) referred to the Department of Oral Implan-tology, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, were selected and diagnosed with edentulous maxilla. For all the patients, 4 to 6 implants were inserted into the maxilla. Six months later, the final cross-arch fixed prostheses were delivered. The 3D facial images were collected before and after the final restoration. The 3D data of prostheses were also captured. All the 3D data were registered and measured in the same coordinate system. Then the displacement of all the landmarks [cheilion left (CHL), cheilion right (CHR), crista philtri left (CPHL), crista philtri right (CPHR), labrale supe-rius (LS), subnasale (SN), stomion (STO), upper incisor (UI), upper flange border of the prostheses (F-point, F)], and the variation of the distances between these landmarks (SN-LS, CPHR-CPHL, CHR-CHL, LS-STO) were analyzed and compared.@*RESULTS@#The consistency test among three measurements of the length of F-SN indicated that the integration method of the dental prostheses and soft tissue had the good repetitiveness, ICC=0.983 (95%CI: 0.957-0.995). After wearing the final cross-arch maxillary implant-supported prostheses, all the landmarks on the soft tissue moved forward. The nasal base area changed minimally, and the shift of SN in the sagittal direction was only (0.61±0.44) mm. But the sagittal shift of LS was (3.12±1.38) mm. In the vertical direction, SN, LS, CPHL, and CPHR moved upward. But STO, CHL, and CHR moved downward a little. Except for the slight decrease of the length of philtrum (SN-LS), the length of CHL-CHR, CPHL-CPHR, and the height of upper lip were increased together (P < 0.01). In the direction of Z axis, the strong correlations were found not only between the movements of SN and F (r=0.904 3) but also between the movements of LS and UI (r=0.958 4).@*CONCLUSION@#The integration method of 3D facial and dental data showed good repetitiveness. And the strong correlations between the landmarks of prostheses and nasolabial soft tissue in the sagittal direction were found by this new method.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the effects of Zhibai Dihuang Decoction (ZDD) on mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase (COX) in the spermatogenic cells of rats with ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) infection.@*METHODS@#From forty 4-5 months old SD rats, 30 were randomly selected for the establishment of the model of testicular UU infection by inoculating the bladder with UU suspension and the other 10 injected with normal saline as controls (group A). At 7 days after inoculation, the rat models of testicular UU infection were treated orally with normal saline (group B), ZDD at 1 g per kg of the body weight per day (group C), and azithromycin at 0.105 g per kg of the body weight per day (group D), respectively, once daily for 21 days. Then all the animals were sacrificed and the epididymal and testicular tissues collected for examination of sperm motility with the color sperm dynamic detection system, measurement of the COX activity with the immunohistochemical DAB method, and determination of the mRNA expressions of COXⅠ and COXⅡ by RT-PCR.@*RESULTS@#Compared with group A, group B showed significant decreases in such sperm parameters as grade a sperm ([1.03 ± 0.09] vs [0.07 ± 0.03] %, P0.05), average path velocity (VAP) ([16.22 ± 1.52] vs [10.05 ± 1.80] μm/s, P0.05), and all the parameters were significantly higher in group C than in D (P<0.05or P<0.01).@*CONCLUSIONS@#UU infection can reduce grades a and b sperm, linear, curvilinear and mean sperm velocities, and the mRNA expressions of COX Ⅰ and Ⅱ while ZDD can improve these parameters. The improvement of sperm motility may not be associated with the activity of COX, and the COX activity may be related to the mRNA expression of COX II but not that of COXⅠ.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of Zhibai Dihuang Decoction (ZDD) on mRNA and protein expressions of transient receptor potential family vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1) and transient receptor potential family vanilloid subtype 5 (TRPV5) in Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU)-infected rat semens and spermatogenic cells, and to explore the pathomechanism of UU-infected infertility and the intervention of ZDD.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 45 were randomly selected from 60 4-5 months old SD rats. UU testicular infected animal models were set up after bladder inoculation of UU suspension. The remaining 15 rats were simultaneously injected with normal saline as a normal control group. After a successful modeling, UU infected model rats were randomly divided into the model group, the azithromycin group, and the ZDD group, 15 in each group. Rats in the ZDD group were administered with ZDD at the daily dose of 1 g/kg by gastrogavage. Rats in the azithromycin group were administered with azithromycin suspension at the daily dose of 0. 105 mg/kg by gastrogavage. Equal volume of normal saline was administered to rats in the normal control group and the model group. All medication was performed once daily for 21 successive days. Testes and epididymis were extracted after rats were killed and UU positive rates were compared among all groups. Sperm cells were separated using a mechanical separation technique. Sperm motility parameters were detected using color sperm motion detection system. mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 and TRPV5 in spermatogenic cells were determined by real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The UU positive rate was obviously higher in the model group than in the normal control group [(86.7% (13/15 cases) vs. 0] P < 0.05). It was lower in the ZDD group [33.3% (5/15 cases)] and the azithromycin group [26.7% (4/15 cases)] than in the model group (P < 0.05). Compared with the normal control group, class A and B sperms were reduced, the linear velocity and the average velocity were significantly lowered, mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 and TRPV5 in spermated genic cells significantly decreased in the model group (P < 0.05). Compared with the model group, class A and B sperms were increased, linear and curve velocities and the average velocity were significantly elevated, mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 and TRPV5 significantly increased in the ZDD group and the azithromycin group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with azithromycin group, class A and B sperms were increased, the linear velocity and the average velocity were significantly elevated, mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 and TRPV5 significantly increased in the ZDD group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>ZDD could fight against UU infection and elevate semen quality, which might be associated with up-regulating mRNA and protein expressions of TRPV1 and TRPV5 in spermatogenic cells.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the pathogenesis,diagnosis and treatment of delayed traumatic intracerebral hematoma.Methods The clinic data of traumatic delayed intracranial hematoma patients in this hospital were retro- spectively analyzed.According to clinic observation and CT re-examination,47 cases were diagnosed as delayed trau- matic intracranial hematoma(45 cases by operative treatment,and the other 2 by conservative treatment).Results There were 21 cases of recovery,10 cases of slight disability,8 cases of severe disability,8 cases of death.The total mortality rate was 17 %.Conclusion Brain contusion,subarachnoid hemorrhage and skull base fracture were impor- tant factors of DTICH.Fine-observation and prompt CT re-examination offered excellent results for DTICH.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To establish a predicting model for stroke according to cerebral vascular hemodynamic indexes and major risk factors of stroke.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Participants selected from a stroke cohort with 25,355 population in China. The first step was to carry out principal component analysis using CVHI. Logistic regression with principal component and main risk factors of stroke were then served as independent variables and stroke come on as dependent variables. The predictive model was established according to coefficient of regression and probability of each participant was also estimated. Finally, ROC curve was protracted and predictive efficacy was measured.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The accumulative contribution rates of four principal components were 58.1%, 79.4%, 88.4% and 94.6% respectively. Seven variables were being selected into the equation with the first to fourth principal component as history of hypertension, age and sex. Area under ROC curve was 0.855 and optimal cut-off point was probability over 0.05. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of stroke prediction were 80.7%, 78.5% and 78.5% respectively.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The model established by principal component and regression could effectively predict the incidence of stroke coming on.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To estimate relative risk (RR) of cerebral vascular hemodynamics indexes (CVHI) accumulative score as well as some other risk factors of stroke.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A cohort study was carried out in 25 355 participants aged 35 and over in Northeast of China from 1994 to 2001. In the baseline survey, exposure rates of hypertension, diabetes, family history of stroke and hypertension, etc. were collected and CVHI was examined. CVHI accumulative score was synthesized according to contribution of single index. During the 7-year following up, 228 stroke cases were identified and stroke coming on was defined as the endpoint of observation. Uni-variable and multiple variables analysis were carried out for estimating RR of CVHI and other risk factors of stroke.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Uni-variables analysis indicated that RR (95% confidence interval, CI) of Hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes, family history of hypertension and stroke, overweight or obesity, alcohol intake, cigarette smoking and CVHI < 75 scores were 3.23 (2.48 - 4.20), 2.53 (1.92 - 3.33), 2.38 (1.55 - 3.64), 1.32 (1.02 - 1.72), 1.82 (1.37 - 2.41), 1.62 (1.25 - 2.11), 1.48 (1.07 - 2.04), 1.76 (1.34 - 2.31) and 7.30 (5.43 - 9.80) respectively. Cox regression analysis showed that CVHI below 75 points, family history of stroke, cigarette smoking, heart disease, hypertension, age and sex were the factors being selected in equation. There was a significant dosage response between the decrease of CVHI score and the increase of stroke risk. RR of stroke reached 12.55 when CVHI below 75 points and history of hypertension appeared in the same individuals.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Abnormality of CVHI score seemed to be the most important and independent factor among stroke risk factors. Decrease of CVHI score might serve as a marker of high risk and play important role in stroke, especially coexistence with hypertension.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To describe the distribution of cerebral vascular hemodynamic indexes (CVHI).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A number of 25,355 age 35 and over were selected in the Northeast China by cluster sampling. CVHI were checked during baseline survey and were followed to see the occurrence of stroke. Distribution of CVHI among non-stroke population, individuals prior to the onset of stroke and patients with stroke were described.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The CVHI accumulative score, V(mean), V(max) and V(min) were dramatically decreasing, but RV, Zcv, WV and DR were significantly increasing as age increased. V(max), RV and CP were significantly higher in males but WV was lower than that of females. The CVHI accumulative score, V(min) and RV were 95.0, 10.23 and 75.8 in non-stroke population, 51.25, 6.71 and 122.72 pre stroke group, and 55.0, 6.78 and 115.89 in patients with stroke respectively. There were significant differences among three groups after controlling of age and sex (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Variance of CVHI was closely related to age, and there appeared a significant abnormal of CVHI before and after stroke.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate efficacy and optimal cut-off-point through cerebral vascular hemodynamic indexes (CVHI) examination to predict stroke.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A number of 20,333 people at 35 years old and over were checked by CVHI and accumulative score was calculated according to the value of detected indexes. Risk factors of stroke were investigated simultaneously. One hundred and sixty-eight patients with stroke occurred during 4-year following up. Typical syndromes and signs stroke were used as golden standard to evaluate screening efficacy of CVHI.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Score of optimal cut-off-point of cerebral vascular hemodynamic indexes was under 75 in ROC curve analyses. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive and negative predictive values, positive and negative likelihood ratios as well as Youden's index for predicting stroke within 4 years after examination were found to be 87.50%, 67.70%, 67.86%, 2.21%, 99.85%, 2.71, 0.18 and 0.55 respectively. Sensitivity and positive predict values for predicting cerebral vascular thrombosis were superior to predicting cerebral hemorrhage. Positive predicting value in risk exposure population was higher than that of overall population. Coefficiency of variation of cerebral vascular hemodynamic examination was 4.03%. The agreement rate of examination between two physicians was 97.62% and Kappa value was 0.94.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The score of optimal cut-off-point of cerebral vascular hemodynamic indexes examination was 75. Both Efficacy and reliability for predicting stroke seemed to be good, especially for predicting cerebral vascular thrombosis.</p>

ABSTRACT

The present study was undertaken by radioligand binding assay to compare the binding properties of U72099E to cytosol and synaptic plasma membrane (SPM)preparations of rat brain. The results showed that the binding of [3H]Glucocorticoids ([3H]GC) was not displaced by U72099E in cytosol but was displaced in SPM with a Ki of 32.2?1.7?mol/L-1,indicating the existence of binding sites for U72099E in plasma membrane (most probably being glucocorticoid membrane receptors, GCMR). The Ki of U72099E is close to the concentrations needed to mimic the actions of it to protect against brain injury, suggesting that GCMR may mediate the beneficial effect of U72099E.
