ABSTRACT

Since 1982, 31 cases of tick bites were reported in Korea and only one case of Haemaphysalis longicornis related to tick bites was included. Until now, nymph related or multiple tick(more than three) related to tick bites were not reported in the Korean literatures. We report three cases of tick bites by Haemaphysalis longicornis. The first case is a 71-year-old Korean woman who had a tick stuck on the anterior chest area. The second case is a 64-year-old Korean man who visited a clinic for pruritic, multiple, erythematous papules and nodules. The third case is 50-year-old man who visited the hospital for pruritic, erythematous nodules on calf area. Eight ticks were collected from three patients which were one female in the first case, two females in the second case and two females and three nymphs in the third case and all of them were identified as Haemaphysalis longicornis.

ABSTRACT

The present work is the first joint epidermiological study of contact dermatitis carried out by the Korean Contact Dermatitis Research Group which was organized in 15i8p. For the past 2 years total 937 patients with contact dermatitie and suspected contact dermatitis have been routinely patch tested with Hollister-Stier standard battery (28 different antigens) by using Finn Chamber at 10 different General Hospitals which were located around Seoul area. The MOHL index was quite different from the western data, which was characterized with less male, rare leg ulcer and less occupational cases. However, housewife hand eczema cases were more common. The most common senaitiaers were ammoniated mercury, nickel sulfate, potassium dichromate, cinnamic alcohol, neomycin sulfate, paraphenylendiamine, balsam of Peru and thimerosal in order of frequency.

ABSTRACT

Penile Horn occurs as a single or multiple lesions. It usually starts as warty growth that later becomes hyperkeratotic and assumes the appearance of a horn. A 22-year-old male patient was presented with a slow growing, asymptomatic, dark brownish colored, corn-shaped, protruding mass on prepuce of the penis for 5 months. Histopathologic finding showed verruca vulgaris. We think that penile horn in this case may be come from verruca vulgaris.

ABSTRACT

A 72-year-old woman with a pea sized, bluish, firm nodule was diagnosed as having a cellular type of dermatofibroma histopathologically. A biopsy specimen revealed a relatively well circumscribed, non-encapsulated, nodular infiltration of irregularly distributed histiocytes in the deep dermis. Foam cells were also noted. Gomoris iron stain revealed large amounts of hemosiderin deposits and some collagen were present as individual fibers in the lesion with Masson's trichrome stain.

ABSTRACT

We had observed 60 patients with scabies in Kangwon province around Wonju area from June to Aug. 1981. The purpose of our present study was the evaluation of the clinical manifestations and laboratory findings in patients with scabies. The results were summarized as follow; 1) The sex ratio of male to female patients was 1. 9: 1 and the most frequent affected age was 10-29 year-old group. 2) Family history was positive in 72.4% of all patients. 3) Ninety per cents of the patients had a history of previous treatment for their kin lesiona, but only 30. 0% of the patients were treated under the diagnosis of scabies. 4) We found the itch mite and it's eggs in 16. 7% of patients and the most frequent detection site was the burrow of interdigital webs, 5) Secondary infection and dermatitis were the most frequent associated complications. 6) The severity of thedisease was correlated with the rate of peripheral eosinophil count. 7) Oniy 4(22.2%) of 18 patients were sensitized to DNCB. 8) The result of VDRL test of the 40 patients whose age were over 17 years old was non-reactive in all.

ABSTRACT

Reticulate acropigmentation of Kitamura, described first by Kitamura and Akam atsu in 1943, is a pigmentary disorder that may be determined by an autasomal dominant gene. Skin lesions are characterized clinically by depressed brownisL pigmented spots, in a reticulated pattern, on the extensor surface of the acral parts of the extremities. Most reported cases are confined to Japanese. We report herein a case of reticulate acropigmentation of Kitarnura in a 28- year-old woman, with a depressed brownish pigmented spots, in a reticulate pattern, on the dorsum of hands and left foot. The authors make the diagnosis of this case a reticulate acropigmentation of Kitamura for the clinical symptoms and histopathologic findings.

ABSTRACT

The cutaneous metastaaes from carcinoma of breast produce four definite clinical types: inflammatory carcinoma, telangiectatic carcinoma, nodular carcinoma, and carcinoma en cuirasse. We present a case of 51-year-old woman who had purpuric, hard, sclerotic plaque with ulceration, crust and. several pea-sized hemorrhagic papulovesicular eruptions on the right chest wall for one year. Histopathological findings show metastatic ductal carcinoma but, the primary focus was not determined.

ABSTRACT

Annular pustular psoriasis is a rare variant of the generalized pustular psoriasis characterized by annular lesions with rapidly evolving pustules, associated mild toxicity, and rapid response to therapy. We present a case of annular pustular psoriasis in a 17-year-old male, in whom no previous history of psoriasis was found. The skin lesions were characterized clinically by annular to gyrate erythematous lesions with pinpoint pustules near the periphery on both shoulders, upper arms, and back areas. The histology showed large intraepidermal spongiform pustules. Most of the skin lesions disappeared within 1 week with topical corticosteroid cream.

ABSTRACT

Carcinoma of the breast can produce cutaneous metastases which sbow highly diversified clinical pictures. The cutaneous metastases produce four definite clinical types: inflammatory carcinoma, telangiectatic carcinoma, nodular carcinoma, and carcinoma, en cuirasse. We present a case of 78-year-old nulliparous woman who had several painful dark purplish colored zosteriform papulovesicular eruptions, suggestive of herpes zoster, on the right breast, right axilla, scapular area, and upper arm for three month. Two month later, well dermacated linearly arranged erysipeloid eruptions appeared around the previous skin lesions and the right chest wall. Histopathological findings showed metastatic ductal carcinoma with massive vascular permeation but the primary focus was undetermined.

ABSTRACT

Cheilitis glandularis simplex, the clinical term first defined by Puente and Acevedo in 1935, is characterized by the development of hyperplastic mucous glands in the lips, associated with dilated ductal canals; it is manifested clinically by a usually painless swelling of the lips and a variably constant, bothersome, sticky mucoid discharge. Recently we have experienced a case of cheilitis glandularis simplex in a 13-year-old boy and an excellent cosmetic result was obtained after surgical excision and repair.

ABSTRACT

One hundred and seven patients with alopecia areata were studied in regard to the character of personality, emotional stress during their military life, socioeconomic status and their possible role in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata by ready-made chart and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (M.M.P.I,) While only 55. 4% of out patients were enlisted men, 73. 0% of alopecia areata patients were soldiers suggesting that soldiers are more prone to develop alopecia areata. This trend was more apparent among soldiers who were less than 6 months in the service. In clinical scale, abnormal MMPI profiles were noted in 65 patients (60. 7%). Among abnormal MMPI profiles, hysteria scale is most common (23. 1%) and followed by hypochondriasis scale 18. 5%, psychiasthenia scale 16. 9%, and paranoia scale 12. 3%. The alopecia areata group showed significant difference in psychopathic deviate, schizophrenia, and paranoia which is high in person having psychotic symptoms and psychopathic personality. The neurotic triad or anxiety index is not significantly elevated.
