ABSTRACT

AIMTo investigate the dynamic changes of Egr-1 expression in the lungs of acute pulmonary embolism of rats by infusion of autoblood thrombs.

METHODSThe model of pulmonary embolism by infusion of autoblood thrombs in the pulmonary artery of rats was established and the mean pulmonary arterial pressure was continuously monitored by computer, and the results were evaluated by lung perfusion scan and pathological changes. Expression of Egr-1 proteinum and mRNA were measured by immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.

RESULTSThe mPAP of rats was increased significantly after infusion of autoblood thrombs at the half hour, and reached high level at the second hour, then remained the high level to four hours compared with group control at the same time point (P < 0.01). ECT image was showed significantly filling defect after infusion of autoblood thrombs at the first hour. The infused thromb was witnessed by hematoxylin and eosin stain. In the tracheal epithelium cells, alveolar epithelium cells and vascular smooth muscle cells of embolism rats, Egr-1 protein expression was increased significantly after embolization at the second hour compared with group control at the same time point (P<0.01), and was decreased slowly at the fourth hour. Egr-1 mRNA expression was showed the similar changes.

CONCLUSIONExpression of Egr-1 was low level in group control, but increased significantly after infusion of autoblood thromb at the second hour in the specificity of cells, suggesting that Egr-1 expression might be an important link of pathological changes in the acute pulmonary embolism.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinate acid(DMSA) renal cortical scintigraphy for the identification of distinguishing between upper urinary infection(UUTI) and lower upper urinary infection(LUTI).Methods Two hundred and seventy-five children (111 males,164 females)ranging from 44 days to 15 years old, presented with urinary tract infection underwent 99mTc-DMSA renal cortical scintigraphy. The images were scored as normal (indicating LUTI) and abnormal (indicating acute pyelonephritis or renal scarring). Results Of 275 children with UTI,95 cases had normal images diagnosed as LUTI,41 males,54 females;and 180 cases had abnormal images,70 males,110 females. One hundred and seventy-four cases were diagnosed as acute pyelonephritis,6 cases were diagnosed as renal cortical scars,56 cases were single renal involved and 118 cases were both renal involved, and 22 cases repeatedly underwent renal cortical scanning after therapy.Sixteen of 18 cases with acute pyelonephritis completely recovered normal or obviously ameliorated after 0.5 to 2.0 years,2 cases did not show any improvement after 0.5 to 1.5 years,4 cases with renal scarring, and showed little change on repeated images after 1.0 to 1.5 years. Conclusions The 99mTc-DMSA renal scintigraphy is very useful in differentiating the children with urinary tract infection. It also can be used to determine the extension, degree and nature of UUTI,and might play an important role in the treatment and follow-up observation in children with UUTI.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the causes of congenital hypothyroidism by single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT) thyroid imaging. Methods Nineteen cases with congenital hypothyroidism were collected, and SPECT thyroid imaging was performed 15 minutes late after injected 99m TcO_ 4- 18.5-37.0 MBq.Results Five cases were found with normal glands,1 case with enlarged thyroid, 2 cases with enlarged thyroid and increased radiation,4 cases with ectopic thyroid,4 with a hypogenetic thyroid, and the last 3 cases showed no thyroid imaging. Conclusions The causes of congenital hypothyroidism can be found by SPECT thyroid imaging, which is important to the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism combined with detection of T_3,T_4,TSH.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the clinical value of 99Tcm-sestamibi(99Tcm-MIBI) myocardial perfusion imaging on detecting myocardial ischemia in children with Kawasaki disease(KD) at convalescence period. Methods Twenty-one children wih KD at convalescence period were divided into 2 groups according to results of echocardiography.Four cases with coronary artery dilation,17 cases without coronary artery dilation. All cases accepted dipyridamole stress myocardial perfusion imaging. These patients who had positive results were given rest myocardial perfusion imaging again next day. Results Among 21 cases,9 cases(42.8%) were positive in perfusion imaging.Four cases with coronary artery dilation showed myocardial ischemia in different degree detected by myocardial perfusion imaging.Among 17 cases without coronary artery dilation,5 cases(29.4%) were positive. Conclusions Compared to echocardiography,99Tcm-MIBI myocardial perfusion imaging can objectively evaluate the location, extent and degree of myocardial ischemia of children with KD.It will be a routine test in observing its phase development.
